If you knew that you could change the world as you know it ...But this would require tremendeous sacrifice on your part..Your wealth, your limbs or your life..without ANYONE ever knowing about your sacrifice..What would you do?

Don't be a hero ..just be YOU when answering

    Its the only way.

    Obviously

    Depends ...

Nope.. If people never knew about my sacrifice, how would the world be saved??
A sacrifice is a symbol. Nelson Mandela sacrificd his life in a sense by being in Jail for so long.. would he be such a symbol of hope had people never heard of it? The symbol is what unites people and helps them save themselves.

And dosox.. what is obvious? obviously yes? or obviously not?

Nelson mandela never expected recognition. Pl read about Nelson mandela.

A sacrifice may be a symbol--but there are many other ways in which a sacrifice makes a difference. When a living person donates an organ, for instance, there is tremendous sacrifice involved...but the life of the recipient is (if all goes well) saved whether anyone knows what the donor has done or not.

Seriously...yes. Only because I am a mother and if the future of the world depended on my sacrifice, then yes I would - recognition would mean nothing.

I would repent my sin and pray to Jesus to forsake me and save me first.

It is all part of God's plan for the world to end so we can have a decision to make: To be reborn through Jesus or die in hell (which does not exist in old testament)

If I somehow believed that the world or "mankind" was worth saving - I might.
As it stands now - I'm in doubt.

Surely "saving the world" would inherently mean a change in that? Simply keeping everyone alive to continue on the current self-destructive and other-destructive downhill spiral doesn't sound much like "saving" to me.

    Thank you for responding....
But you would save the one you love in a heart beat I'm sure..
Why should it take contemplation to do the same for others?..They too are loved.. or have loved ones.
    What makes the distinction?
Are our decisions based on our reaction(or conformity)to our society or religion ?

There are so many in the world I love. I think I would indeed sacrifice myself for them, even if there are many enemies as well.

I seriously doubt that you can be certain how you would react until you are put into such a situation. You might like to believe that you would make the ultimate sacrifice in such a situation and you might actually believe you would, but I'm not sure you'll tell yourself or anyone else the honest answer when there are absolutely no consequences to be suffered by deceiving yourself or anyone else. (Yes, I know that soldiers put themselves into situations of extreme danger, but I suspect that most of them do so secretly or not so secretly believing that it won't happen to them. Don't mistake the previous sentence for an intention to in anyway diminish the sacrifices they make.)

Because none of us is ever likely to be put into a situation where we can save the world (at the cost of sacrificing yourself or otherwise) I don't think it's an answerable question. I do know that I'd at least like some milk and cookies as a reward before sacrificing myself.
  13. princesshai
Definitely yes!!! I do it for the sake of all the people i love and the people who love me.
  14. graceofangels
ofcourse. You don't need to tell the whole world that you're a hero... atleast you are proud of yourself that you did great even though there's no one knows about it.

I would and I wouldn't require recognition or remembrance. But, I admit a little cowardice. I don't mind dying for something I believe in, but I don't want to survive with any ghastly maiming injuries.
  16. 7masterheathen
    Yes, I would do it.

I think most people would sacrifice themselves if it could change the world in a big way. It would of course depend on what was being changed and in what amount.

Funny thing is when you think abaout it though is that 2 people could and would sacrifice themselves for different reasons.

One person maybe to get religion into the world because he or she thinks it is needed while another would sacrifice themselves to do away with religion because they think it is poison to the mind.

I think everyone would say yes ... but would they when it came down to it??

I would like to think I would but if I was standing on the proverbial cliff edge would I do it? Not sure. Tough one.

There are many Christians who sacrificed themselves to preach the gospel. Eventhough my heart wants, I don't think my mind and my body will agree.

This is a difficult question to answer. Curiously, when I give examples of people who are putting their neck on the line, as we speak, comment vanishes. I guess we will never know about them. What is up with that?

I would happily sacrifice my superior genes to help save the world.

    Any smart takers?
  23. nothingprofound
No. I don't think anything is worth sacrificing your (or anyone else's) life for.
  24. newblogmogul
A sacrifice has been made to save the world before and doing it again will require more than a human life. If it were up to me I wouldn't have to be recognize for what I have done, as long as there is a great future ahead for the rest, then that fine with me.
  25. Pratishtha
No way! I think that the world exists for me to live in it and enjoy it, that is the very purpose of creation. World does not need my sacrifice for it to be a better place. It becomes better not by my dyeing or losing my limb but by my enjoying it completely.
  26. davedol
This is not a hypothetical question. Everyday soldiers around the world give up life and limb for a cause. They are willing to sacrifice everything for little or no reward or recognition. Joining the military requires courage.
  27. crazyTsu
In a situation, I may have no choice.. what if enemy soldiers gunned me down and dragged by body out so no one finds it?
  28. angelshair
The only person I would do that for are my children, and I would do it for the very selfish reason that they are my futur.
I find the term "save the world" very strange....how would you know you are saving the world?
