A question for all who love reading.

Do you have the patience to wait for your friend till they've read the book you want and can pass it over to you; OR

For your turn to borrow a book from the library(especially the latest hit and famous reads)

Or
Would you rather buy the book instead of having to wait for it?

i ask how long I have to wait for it at the library if it's more than a week I buy it.

Interesting question. Thanks for posting it. In order of preference:
      (1) Borrow from the library.
      (2) Wait for friend to pass the book on.
      (3) Purchase the book.

I have this obsessive thing where I can only read new books, so i alway have to buy. I can't stand library books or borrowed books
    1. LolitaV
i love wondering where the books' been before. Now the booger stains, not so much.
    2. Sam1982
Yeah its the wondering of "how many people have read this book on the toilet" that really gets me
    3. AngieA
I think only men do that
    4. Sam1982
not me.......i've got a psp, far more entertaining

      @SAM
      yeah I bet.
I bet you have little hot magazines by your toilet, as I suspect your not a wall street journal "paper work" kind of guy. lol
    6. Sam1982
Absolutely not, I have no interest in wall street or its journal. And as for the hot magazines they're not by the toilet, with two step sons one pre and one post teen and a little girl thats just learnt that boys and girls are different they're kept hidden away in a safe place

My friends don't (know how to) read.

I have only ever been in a library once outside of high school (we had class in the library a lot).

By the time I hear about a book it's already on paperback, and thus only a couple bucks.

Do you read those books ever again after having read it through?
    2. dbowles1017
No. But I let other people borrow them.
  5. amybyrd21
I buy mine at the Goodwill. I read them and then free cycle them when I get a stack. I do not buy new books to read except cookbooks (something I can reuse)
  6. dialoguewithyou
I am pretty patient at waiting to borrow, especially from the library.
  7. trailofpen
I'll buy a book if I'm going to read it more than once. I'll go to the library if I'm broke or am just curious about a book.

I mostly borrow or buy used books that I then lend to my friends and family.

In Harry Potter's case I bought brand new, the day of the release, books 6 & 7. Book 5 was a gift, special delivery to Mexico, sent the day it was released in the US. The previous 4 I borrowed them and later bought them used.

Almost all the other books I have bought new were to be given as presents. Usually, when I do that, I'll read them first though, jajajaja.

I will do both but if it is really a good book then i will buy my own copy. i have a habit of rereading the same book twice or thrice if it is really that good.

No, I don’t have the patience’s to wait around for someone else to get done with a book.
In fact I don’t have the patience’s to even sit down and read a book.
I download most off all of my books and listen to them where ever I go.

      @AngieA
I'm just about to get into listening audiobooks too. I'm thinking they will be easy on the eyes, unlike everything else I do.
    2. Deray28
I tried them but didn't like them. I get way too distracted, probably more than with an actual book
    3. dialoguewithyou
@ AngieA: audiobooks definitely sounds a great idea.
Could you please share the online resources to download audible books.
      Thanks
    4. AngieA
      iTunes
Download anything you want into your iPod or Iphone.
If you start to get a little crazy like me, you'll need a few of them.
    5. timethief
      @Angie
I don't own an ipod or iphone so I'll have to listen to them on my PC as it's all I have. Is downloading them from Itunes expensive?
    6. dialoguewithyou
      @ Timethief:
Thanks for sharing the resources to audio books

    @TT
It’s the best thing. You can listen to them when you're working out, when your cooking, when your driving, when your in the shower, when your cleaning house, when your out on a walk. ANYTIME...and its great b/c you can listen to them a few times.
It’s the best thing ever invented!
    AND easy on the eyes

I think it's hard to afford all the books I want though if I want it bad enough I usually buy it. Luckily I have a lot of friends who read voraciously and we exchange, my grandmother sends me books, and our library now has a book crossing section where I can go leave my books and scarf up others.

I usually take a trip to a bookstore and just start walking around. Books always call out to me. Invariably, I always find the book that was right for that time and useful for my life. I know, sounds a big corny but hey, that is how it happens...one or two just usually jump out. Hey, wonder if I am hearing voices...naaaa. So I guess I buy first but trade a lot with my buddy. This site is also a great place to get books on the cheap. It is a great site I found about a year ago that I suggest to others for sharing books. www.paperbackswap.com/index.php

Not corny at all...that is exactly how my husband and I buy books. And we buy, we don't borrow. We are both bookish and we have several 6' tall bookcases in the house that are full of books, and instead of a bedside table or nightstand, my husband has a bookcase, which is full.

I can't speak for him. but I reread my books, some of them 3 or 4 times. When I moved here from California I sold more than half of my books and still brought six bookboxes full, including two shelves of cookbooks. When I remodeled my kitchen several years ago, I had a bookshelf added to the kitchen just for the cookbooks.

We buy books...lots of them...and when the bookcases are full, we buy another bookcase.

That's very interesting Thanks for sharing!!

I don't read books anymore so the problem never arises. When I did read I'd go to the library, browse and check out something that caught my fancy. I never had any preconceived idea about what I was going to read. The only thing, it had to be philosophy or poetry. I never read anything else.
  15. YouKnow
I know it's wrong, but I have to buy things. I have to have the actual object in my hand too. DVDs, books, CDs... That's why you shouldn't buy me Kindle.
  16. celticmusicfan
I have Shakespeare sonnets on my vinyl so i listen to it via turntable. it makes me feel 1950ish.
    1. dialoguewithyou
      wow! amazing
  17. PsychBabbler
It depends. If it's a book by my favourite authors, I will buy it as soon as it's out. If it's just a recommendation by someone I will borrow either from the library or a friend if they own it.
  18. SufiSister
    I can wait ... patiently
    BUT
if its a must have ... read right now ! Im off to Borders
