This could very well be the strangest article I've come across yet ...

Divorcee: Forget the kids, I want my kidney back

Broken hearts are a staple feature of many divorces, but one US man has added a novel twist to his settlement by demanding that his estranged wife undergoes surgery to give him back his kidney.

In 2001, Richard Batista showed his dedication to his other half by stepping forward when doctors said she was in dire need of a new kidney. The doting husband beat odds of 1-in-700,000 to be a viable match.

But he claims that his wife-of-19-years repaid the heart-warming gesture by shacking up with her physical surgeon - a charge both of them deny - and says he now wants the organ returned to his body.

"This is my last resort," Batista said. "I didn't want to be in the public eye." Despite the animosity, Batista insisted he would donate the kidney all over again to his hopefully soon-to-be-ex. He fondly recalls a visit to her room on the day after surgery.

"There was no greater feeling on this planet," he said. "As God is my witness, I felt as if I could put my arm around Jesus Christ. I was walking on a cloud."

I don't think I would take the kidney back... the whole situation is just weird.

Any thoughts?

He's just being a vindictive idiot! Kick him in the other kidney! He won't get anywhere. You can't force surgery on someone!

I wouldn't want it back, after someone's had their slimy intestines all over it. Yuck! Get a new one from the black market, like everybody else, Richard.

Ugh, I can see my parents doing that...

But no, I'm not going through a damn second surgery, either to take it out and put it back in, just to spite someone. Not after all the damn prep work that goes into that surgery.

Perhaps the man who wants a kidney back could use a refresher on the constituents of the Hippocratic Oath which would preclude his fellow surgeons from removing his wife's kidney to return it to him in the first place. In its traditional form, the oath requires a doctor to refrain from doing any harm to patients.

I don't think he is being vindictive, I think she is just a hoe. Realistically, many husbands kill wives for this sort of crap so at least he is just requesting payment for an organ. I think it is a bit off, and I wouldn't do it, but I would take her for every single dime she has citing infidelity and get full custody of the kids. Sorry, but I see chicks like that all the time using kids as weapons and always shopping around for the next best thing.

The fact that she served him with divorce papers while he was in surgery trying to save someone shows her character. He has people coming to his defense about what a great man he is, she doesn't. I'm siding with him on this because I hate women like that
