A few months ago, Dat Money asked the question: "Should You Set Up A Porn Site With Porn Affiliate Links To Make Money Online?

The response was quick and overwhelming. Many commenters were curious as to how to proceed with setting up a porn website, as well as a few were curious about my humble beginnings in adult webmaster industry.

There is a reason why porn industry big wigs vote republican, porn is a big business. Writing it and writing about used to be big money for anyone who did it even the soft core erotica writing, but the market is flooded and new sites will have a hard time scrounging enough to make it worth while...

BTW: Porn is simply a term used by those who think they have a right to criticize others for what they do with their own body...

  No, they don't vote democrat. This is one of the few industries that donates exclusively republican. You might think they would vote for freedom loving democrats, but they don't Porn industry big wigs with the exception of Heff (who is an icon outside the industry) vote with the party that says screw the workers it is all about the company and its executives. Its more good old boy politics. Neocons as much as they would like to shut down the industry can't porn is tied to heavily into the Nevada and New Jersey gaming industries. They might not understand they can't shut it down, but politicians and porn executives all know better.
  
  All anti-porn legislation that has come out of republican administrations in the last 30 years has been meaningless and never affected the legal porn industry. It was actually under the Clinton administration where condoms became mandatory during actual sex.
  
  Simple point is many performers might vote democratic as often as not, but the people in charge don't want any legal sex worker getting the kind of rights democrats keep trying to push through for all workers. The healthcare costs alone would drive them out of business, do you want to know what the workers compensations rate would be where one of the risks was death from HIV? Porn execs don't want fair treatment of their workers and the republicans are the party to back for that.

Aparently, you haven't been reading the editorials in Adult Video News (the industry's top trade magazine), for the past few elections. While there might be a few Republicans among them (great's former boss, for one), most industry insiders regard the party's religious right as a serious threat to their livelihood. If you ask them, they will probably wax poetic about the Clinton administration, when obscenity prosecutions slowed to a trickle.

There's no money to be made in porn. Are you willing to make a time investment of 3 months without pay? Are you willing to shell out thousands of dollars and risk it on a huge loss? the online adult entertainment business is extremely competitive, highly over saturated and extremely cut throat.. The profit margins are in rapid decline due to the proliferation of free content everywhere..

  that's not true Tangled Web. I joined Adult Webmaster Hangout Forum a couple of years ago and made friends instantly by offering content. See the key is to become a content provider, anyone with a little HTML knowledge can set up a website. I made money that day..still do whenever I feel up to it.

  Tangled if you believe there is no money to be made then you are completely clueless. It is hard to make money at it online but it is hard to make money with any kind of content online. They key is knowing what you are doing and treating it like a business. 3 months and few grand investment is nothing when it comes to starting a real business.

  Yet, there is a definite validity to what Tangled says. Once upon a time, not all that long ago, when there wasn't the proliferation of free content that there now is on the Internet and pornography was less accepted and harder to come by, it paid far more and far more easily than it does today.

  absolutely, and those are the webmasters I sell content to. You see, they bundle erotica stories with their other services and charge a monthly,or weekly fee. I get paid for supplying content...the same way a box maker gets paid for supplying boxes.

One problem is, it's hard to cum with with a good domain, that is the hard part.
But, being creative in the field with some decent affilates connected to it, it could turn a profit. It does not have to be just smut, but adult themes with some hot related pics and video wouldn't hurt anyone.

Once we get our other domains set up the way we want them, we'll probably open up a adult related one.
So no, I have no problems with them.

Apparently you're the clueless one. The online adult entertainment industry isn't a cash cow just anyone can jump on and make bank. You need much more skill than what the majority of these bloggers here possess.. HTML and blogging knowledge are not enough.. THOUSANDS of people are trying to become adult webmasters every day and the majority of them fail.. I KNOW because I own hundreds of such adult sites.. I also owned and operated an affiliate program and I've been in this business for over 10 years.

Yes money can be made, but not in the sense that people are claiming.. it is a full time job with commitment and dedication and working your ass off that earns the income.. People need to get out of that mindset that porn will make them money just because they slapped up a website/blog and people will come.

Every day tens of thousands of new pornsites pop up.. what's going to make yours any different or more special than the millions of others?

Are you ready for the extreme cut throat competition? Are you ready for people to steal from you, screw with you, mess with you? Are you ready to work with and collaborate with scum and swine and people of low moral character?

It's a well known fact in the industry that sales and income are in rapid decline, which is why I have been moving away from adult and into mainstream.. the money is not what it used to be.

You're nuts if you think Joe Schmoe will continue forking out credit cards to buy porn when the economy is collapsing

  First off I never said anything about slapping a website together I said starting a business and there is a big difference. There is money to still be made in this industry if you open your eyes, but since you are so closed minded I can't expect you to understand that. You have your own opinion of porn and that is fine, but that has absolutely nothing to do with its profitability.

  I'm not mentally imbalanced and I do believe you are wrong. Both porno and erotic writing online constitute a huge and very profitable industry that's growing daily, and I don't believe the economic collapse will bring and end to it.

Your original question is 'would you WRITE porn' that's different than setting up a porn sight or staring in porn.

I wouldn't have a problem with writing it. Wouldn't want to produce videos tho, and no one wants to see me in a porn movie, HAHA! So that question really doesn't apply! But, even if I had the body for porn I wouldn't make it. I 'try' not to judge those who do though.

Definitely....I made a living showing my body on the burlesque circuit for over 20 years, and raised 2 kids doing it in the 70's and '80's, making good money....and my son shoots short documentaries of me talking about the adult entertainment industry....if I could find a way to make money writing about it, I would be right there...

@thefrontline: porn is and always has been intended for adults. Even b4 the internet there was Hustler, Playboy, Playgirl, etc. Nothing has changed, just the way the game is played. You still need to raise your kids and not let the internet or TV be the babysitter.
