Have you ever been? If not, would you like to go??

Well, it is my "backyard" and I spent 3 days there last week.

I'll be posting in detail about the trip (including my close encounter with a very large grizzly bear!) over the next few weeks, but in the meantime, if you are interested, here is a "higlights" post to kick things off:

    Never been.

Would I like to? Yes and no. I'd like to see it, but the idea of visiting along with a ton of other tourists at the same time is less attractive. And what would it cost to drive there from DC now? $5,000 in gas?

Actually, there weren't as many people there as I thought there would be, which was so nice. It made it much more enjoyable.

Most likely the lower numbers of tourists was due to the high cost of gas.

That and the Grand Canyon. They're on my "must do" list. Looking forward to the bear story!

I want to see the Grand Canyon, too! That and Mt. Rushmore are on my list, but with the cost of gas... ugh.

I;ve been to the Grand Canyon... It is worth going.

Spectacular scenery and really fine photography, what's not to like? I've been to your blog and commented.

Thank you TT! I think I might take some photography classes and invest in better equipment, I could definitely get into it if I knew what I was doing and had a better camera.

I loved the shot of the older trees on the slope with the gnarly bark naturally peeled back and weathered. It was super cool.
    3. offendedblogger
That one is my most favorite actually.

i'm only going if I get the official Chelle B tour/bow hunting extravaganza combo package.

    We'll catch us some Jackelope.

      Haha! Deal.

Oh, and I actually believed jackalope were real when I was little.
    2. timethief
There are jackalope and unicorns in my magical island forest, don't you know? All my little 4H riders and I have seen glimpses of them from time to time.

my dad retired early and volunteers at a camp out there every year and every year tries to convince me to come by.

    yet to make it.

    maybe next year ...

You really should go, it is something everyone should see in person at least once.

I'm completely ashamed of myself. I grew up in Montana, mere hours away, and have never been to Yellowstone. I will now go stand in the corner and hang my head in shame. I will go one of these days though.

      Shameful indeed!!

Sounds awesome, but just how likely is it to run into what you did???

You mean the grizzly bear? Hmm, it's hard to say because I seem to have luck seeing them every time I go.

One weekend, I saw 7 different grizzly bears, which is pretty amazing! One was a sow with three young cubs, another rarity. They usually have one or two.

I have yet to see a wolf, though, or a cougar, and those are the two things I hope to see this summer. I'll be going back up in a couple of weeks, with my fingers crossed!

Have been to Yellowstone once as a 5-year old, and twice as an adult. It's amazing. I love traveling to our National Parks.

      I do too!

I actually grew up next to Yosemite, and spent a lot of time there. Then I moved up to the gates of Glacier park for a few years, it was incredible and is my favorite place on earth. Now I live next to Yellowstone for the second time in my life, with a view of the Tetons from my house, and boy do I feel very blessed.

I got very close to some monkeys and sloths recently, but grizzlies WITH cubs might be a little outta my league. I guess I'm not as big of a risk taker as I thought I was!
    1. offendedblogger
I would love to see monkeys and sloths in the wild!

I absolutely love and respect and fear nature. Fear is what keeps you safe, I think.

I'm not a big fan of nature. I prefer my nature on TV.

I just did my blog for tomorrow, and it was all about nature. At least my bizarre view of it.

Can't wait to read it. Mine is a Wordless Wednesday post you can caption for me hehe. I am so lazy this week!

      Sounds great.

      It's really not.

I have some cool photos of some monkeys and other animals on my site from our tour thru the jungle in Costa Rica. One is very mad looking because we didn't him our banana (we weren't supposed to feed them). It's the 8th post down. Sorry to self promote, but the photos are pretty funny.

Such beauty at your home. Incredible. I wanted to know about the fallen or chopped trees in the photo of the bear. Loved the buffalo one, too.
    1. offendedblogger
Thank you, I love the buffalo one, too!

The trees that are fallen are most likely remnants from the fires that swept through Yellowstone in 1988.

Many areas of the park burned that year and you can still see large areas where the trees are fallen like that, as well as areas with healthy, abundant new growth that resulted from the fires.

In upcoming posts, I have photos that show large areas of fallen trees.

You can read all about these fires here, if you'd like:
