On September 27th, join 1,000s of bloggers around the world in BlogCatalog's Blogging for a Great Cause Challenge.
This Blogging Challenge will be:
Bloggers Against Abuse
September 27th, 2007
The Outcome we are after is to be part of the largest group of bloggers to ever blog about an important cause, all on the same day.
So how do you participate?
On Sept. 27th, blog about putting an end to some sort of Abuse (you decide what kind of abuse to blog about).
In the meantime though,
* Spread the word among all the bloggers you know. Perhaps even give them a link to this Discussion.
* If you are a graphic's designer, perhaps you can come up with some small badges announcing the event, that we can then place on our blogs. To share the badge, place it on this thread.
* List any organizations, on this thread, who are involved in putting an end to abuse.
What do you get?
You will receive a link to your Blog Post from the Blogcatalog blog when we list everyone who participated.
You get to use your blog for an important cause.
You get to create blogging history.

Thanks, will do.
I have designed a few logos on my blog, not a graphic designer, but will have a go.

I made a bloggers unite logo that I thought might be cool and some badges to support the cause, we could probably link them to blog.blogcatalog.com/category/community-challenge/

What do you guys think?-
They're all well-conceived and executed.
Thanks for providing a variety of related styles. I've got 'mine' picked out for one of my blogs already. And, an idea for what to write about.
Back to the variety: I really appreciate that. You've got squarish, high, wide, simple, not-so-simple, and all with a color scheme that's simple enough to fit into many page designs. -
wow, wonderful. Can I have one of these on my blog?

Thank you in advance!

I've got my badges up and thought I'd share how I linked them, in case anyone else wants to do the same.
I used the small Bloggers Unite badge linked to the blog category for Community Challenge. That way, it can be a permanent badge on my blog and it will be updated as the blog is updated with more community challenges.
I put the larger, date-specific badge in my far right sidebar with a link to the Stop Abuse entry in the blog. I figure I'll change that one as there are more community challenges. The size and location should alert more people to it and hopefully, they'll click it out of curiosity.
So far, I've posted about the Stop Abuse event on just one of my blogs. I'll do a post on my other blogs over the next few weeks. In my post, I linked to this discussion.
Hope we can get more bloggers involved. -
Scorpy this looks great www.mydandelionpatch.com/
The only thing is the dimensions of the badge are larger than the orginal one so the badge looks slightly blury.
Your post is a great example and will make it easier for more bloggers to get involved. -
Marisa,
This is a great post about why bloggers should unite.

I will be adding one of the graphics shortly and posting about it on my blog.
I have a few questions. What are we going to do, if anything, to alert bloggers beyond Blog Catalog? Obviously the posts on our blogs will go a long way to doing that, but what about more direct means?
I plan on posting a thread on it in a webmasters board I have started frequenting, under the "Blogging" section.
What about press releases to mainstream media? Anyone have experience in this area? -

I have posted my first short essay on Bloggers Uniting Against Abuse:
sportsnarrative.blogspot.com/2007/08/bloggers-unite-against-abuse.html
and have also posted one of the logos in the body of the post. Hopefully I will be putting one of the logos in my sidebar in the near future (just trying to figure out how best to do it...) -
Hi scorpy01. Cheers. I read your article as well and noticed that you hadn't decided on a topic yet. Have you had any thoughts about what particular abuse you'll blog about?
What about other people? -
I make a little cartoon tell me what you think about it.

We can also talk about HOPE!
Focusing on the positive can be another way to blog about this because when we share what someone became after going through a horrible period, or how he or she made a huge contribution to a particular cause b/c they were empowered to make a difference after the abuse, we provide hope for others who have experienced or are experiencing something similar.
This positive approach can also be whether we blog about animals, political, human rights abuse. -
Don't Forget Your Bloggers Unite Badges!

Wow the badges are wonderful! Can I edit one of them and make it 'green' as to blend in my current blog's color scheme please?

Excellent idea! I will publish a post on 27 Sept, using one of the logos and links, to draw attention to the good work done by Amnesty International, www.amnesty.org.uk/

I'm in too. I think it is a great idea and I would be proud to be part of this. Big Pharma has been abusing people and animals for a long time and that is what I will be posting about. www.bigpharmavictim.blogspot.com

I'm totally in!

I'm in. I'll be linking this to my 15 blogs. Hopefully, we'l get a lot of bloggers to join in!
Great idea!
I think I may blog about the abuse of non payment of child support. What's up with non custodial parents not paying child support? The system is horrible! (Notice I wrote non custodial and not "men" because I've come across cases of women that have abandoned their kids and refused to pay child support.) Take care of your kids financially......even if you don't want to be in their lives! Geez........
