The "Post a link to your favorite blog post" shtick has been done to death before, so let's try it with an added twist: Post a link to your favorite blog post from an author other than yourself, on a blog that you don't contribute to.

You may post as many as you wish, so long as you say why you like the post. Don't just drop a link; it will be removed. Don't link to a post on one of your blogs, or it will be reported to the admins.

With that said, let's have some fun.

    Assuming I don't get ninja'd, I'll go first:

    identitycheck-anok.blogspot.com/2008/11/case-for-equal-rights.html

This is from Anok's blog, Identity Check. As the title indicates, it is an argument in favor of civil rights. In particular, gay rights, but not gay rights exclusively. It was a fantastic post 9 months ago, and it remains one of her best posts.

    www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=astrology

This is from The Best Page in the Universe, a very popular website ran by a somewhat famous internet writer named Maddox. In this rant, Maddox demonstrates the inanity of believing in astrology.

Those are just the tip of the iceberg. I'll probably post more as I remember them.

I really enjoyed mendacity by Stillthinking.

"Still water runs deep" comes to mind when thinking of that post and the scene it sets.

    studio307.blogspot.com/2009/07/mendacity.html
    1. voodooKobra
I can see why you like it. That was very well-written.
    2. crpitt
I liked the mix of personal with a deeper more philosophical twist that makes you think.
    3. Stillthinking
Oh my goodness Claire! I am so flattered and thank you!
    4. crpitt
I am no literary expert, just saying what I like

    notches.blogspot.com

    ANY POST.

    I love that blog.
    1. voodooKobra
I'm not quite sure I get what's going on there.
    2. wagerwitch
Rivy is an artist - and he writes about his experiences through his art.

It's jocular in a hippy - tuned - see the world through personal eyes - and making light or dark or "bluesy" and sharing the momentary experience he felt...

You can almost see the artist in the moment - if you read through it and just let it float over you.

It's very unusual art - and very good in my humble opinion.

wwwaphorismscom.blogspot.com anything on this page really. I get all kinds of emotions as i read through them.

    cookingforassholes.blogspot.com/2009/06/bacorn.html because nothing beats bacorn!!!!
    1. voodooKobra
      Wow. Bacorn. Sounds delicious!

      I like the aphorisms, too.
    2. LolitaV
you got great taste. keep promising myself to make it for D. but soon though. maybe i should take credit when i make it
    3. cookingasshole
Bacorn is mine! I invented it!
    4. LolitaV
yes but i can take credit for it and you cannot stop me
    5. voodooKobra
Watch out, Cooking Asshole is a classhole. He'll probably get a plane to fly over your house saying "Bacorn was MY idea!"
    6. LolitaV
hehehehe, i live in a cave, up the mountains in the Andes. I wanna see him try. bacorn was my idea (after i saw it on his blog)
    7. voodooKobra
Wow, in the Andes? He'd still pull it off, I think. Or maybe carve it into the side of a mountain with dynamite, only it would be the mountain you live on, and there would be no message carved except a large circle.
  5. crpitt
This post reminded me of a similar incident that happened to me, I was/am a daft deer caught in headlights kind of gal in these situations. There is such a sense of innocence in it, with a dollop of rudeness.

Oh yes Claire - I'm telling you what - Apsot comes right in there with me - But RIVY captured my heart...

      Aspot captures other things. LMAO!

    somanylosers.blogspot.com/2009/07/losers-as-art-vii-ye-olde-faire.html

This just cracked me up to no extent...A little ruthless though
    1. voodooKobra
Hahaha! That's great. I've heard the same wisecrack about an English degree.

I love Medieval Fairs, at least when the knights know how to actually wield their weapons. I saw a jousting tournament a few months back wherein the knights were stage-fighting with piss-poor timing so you could tell it was fake. I could have slaughtered them all with one hand behind my back, platemail be damned.
  8. polybore
Polybore has always liked this one markstoneman.wordpress.com/2009/01/20/two-of-two-million/

He can be a tad grumpy, maybe a little officious sometimes but all is forgiven because he can write and, when he chooses, from the heart.
    1. voodooKobra
Washington D.C. is clearly not meant to handle that many people at once. I'm surprised the fire marshal didn't suffer from a stroke.
    2. Stillthinking
I loved this article. I am a crier anyway, but the night Obama was elected I wept. It was so overwhelming to me because I had spent the Bush years getting denigrated and verbally attacked as Un-American for being an unapologetic liberal. Also, Obama is from Chicago so the atmosphere all over the city that night was "freaking electric".
    3. clioandme
Grumpy and officious? Oh my. And I had to look up the second word.

Thanks for the kick in the behind, there polybore. Maybe I'll find time to live and write a little more, now that I've got more than one day off in a row.
  9. LolitaV
if you have a penis, you need to read this and memorize it: These are mistakes that men make that turn a woman OFF!!! ladylyf.wordpress.com/2009/05/26/sexual-no-nos/
    1. voodooKobra
Ouch! "Thank you"? That's the epitome of socially awkward.
    2. polybore
Au contraire. This list may include a particular persons turn off's but it certainly does not concern every woman.
    3. LolitaV
well i put it up because i agree with most of them. tell me have you ever seen a women liking her head shoved on a crotch?
    4. voodooKobra
I've heard of women who like it rough, but I don't think they were talking about that.
    5. polybore
Sorry but polybore is going to deliberately not answer your question. Instead they will say that in a loving intimate relationship it is to the participants to discover what they like and it is best that lists of do's and dont's are forgotten.
    6. timethief
      @polybore
... in a loving intimate relationship it is to the participants to discover what they like and it is best that lists of do's and dont's are forgotten.

      Very well said.
  10. Stillthinking
I have a particular article in mind, unfortunately I cannot locate it anymore. I feel like a total stalker as I have been skimming through the blog page by page to find it.

    *gives up*
    1. voodooKobra
What blog is it from? Maybe we can find it ourselves.
    2. Stillthinking
It's Greencurmudgeon's blog. I read it not too long ago and was so impressed and moved, but he's got so many really well written articles that I would need his help to locate it.
    3. timethief
Every article greencurmudgeon writes is thought provoking and so well crafted that I feel honored to be allowed read them. I think this one is outstanding but truthfully they all are.
The Management Secrets of Emperor Diocletian
      www.whirledpeas.eu/2009/04/10/the-management-secrets-of-emperor-diocletian/
    4. Stillthinking
Found it! It's a rare personal entry and I was so moved by the eloquence. After I read this, I came to the conclusion that I am not a writer. He is a WRITER.

      www.whirledpeas.eu/2009/05/05/in-praise-of-hyacinth-girls/
    5. timethief
Ahhh . yes! I remember that one too. Good choice.
    6. Stillthinking
When I read this, I had to go back and read it again. Wow.
    7. voodooKobra
Despite being one who actively works to kill emotion (not with medicine, though), I enjoyed his post. He makes wonderful points about society as a whole.
    8. Stillthinking
      VDK,

I know you seek to be rational and logical in all things, but the joy in life comes from opening our lives to other people.

      You're human, not Vulcan.
    9. voodooKobra
It's easier to open the mind if you close the heart.
    10. Stillthinking
Well, you're a very different personality type than me, and that's fine.

I'm an INFJ, but I am just barely an introvert. I tend to feel people out and rely on my intuition. I admire emotional, warm people and am strongly attracted to people with great charisma.
    11. voodooKobra
      Charisma is my dump stat.
    12. Stillthinking
Really? You prefer people who are just as introverted as you? What about balance? For me charisma draws me like a moth to flame. Men (and occasionally women) who are warm and emotive as well as vivacious and energetic set off all my nerve endings.
    13. voodooKobra
I was making a D&D reference. A dump stat is the one you put the least amount of points in so that you can strengthen the others.

D&D is nerdy and nerdy things are considered uncharismatic. Do you see the irony here?
    14. Stillthinking
I think nerds can be charismatic. I have been told I have personal charisma and I am huge sci-fi geek.
    15. voodooKobra
Okay, when I mention irony, it means I'm joking. Usually.
    16. Stillthinking
Your humor is a little dry. I missed that one. Just call me Ache.

    2. timethief
We have some extremely talented writers here at BC. I hope quietwatersrise gets the recognition she deserves, because her poetry is excellent.
    3. voodooKobra
      I second that.
  12. DollinNYC
I am posting my all time favorite writer and soon to be super model LisaNYC.

  13. DollinNYC
Cooking Asshole is also a great writer with some fantastic recipes and a dash of abuse for an appetizer...

I really havent read most of the blogs here in BC, but from what Ive read I like Nothing Prfound's aphorisms and Harvey avatar's posts
    1. voodooKobra
You're missing out. All of the aforementioned posts have been wonderfully well-written.
  16. crpitt
Flowers in the ruin by Dr Jay was another wonderful post, if you Greencurmudgeon's stuff I think you will really enjoy this.

    yogaforcynics.blogspot.com/2009/07/flowers-in-ruins.html
    1. Stillthinking
That was really lovely. In fact, I found it so romantic. Not in a chocolates and greeting card kind of way, but more like a romantic view of the world. Very vivid imagery.
    2. crpitt
That is very close to how I pictured it too, as I was reading it.
I also felt a bit sad.
    1. voodooKobra
Which post? You linked to an entire, albeit inactive, blog.

Excellent work here, although I have to take some of the credit, as it was my Blogcatalog thread comment and subsequent shoutbox flirting which ultimately inspired it.

One of my favorite blogs to read is May's Machete by May Evans. One of my favorite posts is about how she fell in love with alternative transportation, very beautifully written.

WIsco talks about the heckling and hysteria on the loud right-wing fringe of the USA. It's getting ugly and silly, and also a little bit dangerous in some cases.
