Anyone care to share any parenting tips with the rest of us?

I know that kids don't come with manuals - damn the luck! - but if anyone here has gone through raising children, your input here would be wonderful!

Also... I'd really like to hear any funny stories you have to share about children. Your own kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews... etc. :)

We could all use a chuckle or a smile every once in awhile, so don't be shy!

Our circumstance is a bit different than some, because we know our son's birth mother and we were friends with her father for years. However, the biological father... all we have is his name. We lost track of him a long time ago - about 4 months after my son was born, he moved and left no forwarding address.

As an adoptive mother, I will support whatever decision my son makes on his own about tracking his biological family and I know his father will also.

Here in Kansas, adoption records become open and accessible when a child reaches the age of 18 so if that child decides to pursue their biological parents, the search is made a bit easier.

I am curious - if anyone here was adopted as a child, have you at any point, actively searched for your birth parents?

If you haven't actively searched, have you ever thought about it?

Hello.

First of all, thanks for joining!

Let's start off my introducing ourselves - as little or as much information as you're comfortable sharing.

I'm an adoptive mother. My son was adopted by my husband and I at birth. It started as an open adoption, but due to some personal breaches of trust, it was soon to become closed.

Our son is 11 now, and he has known of his adoption since he was a toddler. We started by introducing him to the concept of adoption through childrens' books and of the story of his actual adoption.
