   If movies count, Spirited Away. The music and plot just spurs the imagination every time I watch. As far as tv series goes, it'd be Rahxephon. Yes it's very much like Neon Genesis Evangelion, but I enjoyed the feel and pacing of this series much more.

      Among mecha anime, Rahxephon stands out as the best for me. It has great animation, superb music, and a protagonist that doesn't annoy me. *coughs*

   Tonari no Totoro (My Neighbor Totoro) & Mimi o sumaseba (Whisper of the heart) is my fav for all time!
   Followed by Death Note... this anime together with the manga, n the movies are completely insane! I've never seen such a unique character like L and such a genious storyline like this

   Any Ghibli movie is fine!
   Though I liked the Aria series too.
   
   It's hard to talk about the best one since there are many categories of anime.
   For Slice of life I'll go with Aria.
   For comedy...Lucky Star I guess.
   For action, don't know, it's been a long time since I last saw an action anime.
   And so on.
