   I think it is very time consuming but they are effective only if you know how to use them: if you join Facebook for example, don't just throw sheep at your friends and answer only meaningless questions on discussion boards: you must join groups related to whatever you are trying to publicize and be very present out there: make friends but don't spam them, only send them links if they have asked you a question about your business (of course you can help to try and direct the discussion your way).
   Bolg Catalog works because all the users have something to do with blogs and I have found great blogs thanks to this (I have even subscribed to a few).

      I completely agree with you. You must be sincere when using social networks. Most people can spot a spammer right away. I believe it's best to important to always offer information that can be useful or productive. People will be much more interested in following someone who can offer useful information.
