TonyB,
Thanks for speaking up. I am not sure if the title "Use your Blog to Free Iran" is particularly appropriate... This is a rather Western way of thinking. It is not for us to "free Iran".. But I know what you mean, and would guide it more towards "Support freedom of expression in Iran"
Social media have played an important role in the Iranian post-election protests, particularly at the beginning. As foreign news agencies are continuously curtailed, we - bloggers - have a mass medium that can help bringing out the message.
I suggest that would be our role: support the freedom of expression, and the freedom of opinion, which is applicable to Iran, as well as to any nation.
To that effect, we should stimulate all bloggers to report on the events in Iran, to repost Tweets - YouTube videos - links to Iranian blogs - news reports coming from the ground, etc..
In that way, we can become an alternative medium compensating for the limited reporting from conventional media.
On www.theroadtothehorizon.org I have tried my best:
- I publish the consolidated Twitter feed of all Iranian Twitterers
- wrote several posts on the role of social media in Iran
- published the list of all Twitterers active on the ground ( www.theroadtothehorizon.org/2009/06/who-is-on-twitter-from-iran.html )
- published some posts with background info on the history of Iran, and the its relation with the West.
... and we should use a green logo for our cause of course. ;-))

If you noticed many Avatars or Icons on Twitter profiles have green shading, Many are supporting the revolution in IRAN via social networks like Twitter, Facebook and alike.
So to help you quickly turn your Avatar profiles to green without using special services, I’ve created a 12 simple steps tutorial on how to do this.

NEDA (26 years old), Fiance speaks out. (with picture)
it's long but very interesting. Her fiance says that the coroners asked to remove a part of Neda's leg (for apparent use for another person), that Iran's authorities refused to allow her family to hold a memorial service, and that Neda was not a firm backer of either Mousavi or Ahmadinejad -- she simply "wanted freedom and freedom for all."

I have an idea for supporting our Iranian brothers and sisters in their struggle for freedom.
If you find this idea of value, please send to anyone who might be able to act upon it.
The TEN MILLION GREEN BALLOONS FOR FREEDOM in IRAN
My idea is to have a GLOBAL campaign to launch 10 (or 5 or 1 or whatever) million green balloons by ordinary citizens into the skies of different cities all AT THE SAME TIME...
Here is some implementation issue.
- set tup a website that allows people to sign up anywhere in the world to enroll in the campaign...only by first name and last initial...or some unidentifiable mode...but something everyone can see the count real time
- coordinate the time for the baloon launch from any place that an individual chooses...this could be from work, home, designated places if people want to, etc: the idea being that if you look up - say at 12 pm to 12:10 pm - you will see many many many balloons launched. pelple can write the name of all the javoonha who lost their lives on the balloons
- coordinate with all major media for coverage
- coordinate with google satellite to take a picture of the balloon launch
The guiding principle are: This display of support must:
- be on a global level
- should be as easy as possible to enroll people
- there has to be a high degree if anonymity in participants showing their support
- should be VERY visible so as to garner a lot of public and media coverage
- should not be connected to any political movement (i mean...saltanat talab, etc.)
I am not an organizer or possess any organizational skills but if you think this idea has any merit plz pass to those who may be interested in adding, modyfying and developing it.
Warmest regards,
Dee
