What money I make from my web pages comes almost exclusively from the affiliate programs I belong to. The only thing I sell directly is advertising space. Right now I have about a dozen ads running that bring in just shy of three Ben Franklins apiece. I don’t pretend to know why advertisers want to have ads on my pages, I just know the ads keep rolling in. I’ll get back to that in a moment.

Anyway, one of the least rewarding affiliate programs I’ve belonged to partnered me up with those auction people. You know who I mean – the big guys, the ones who started with Pez dispensers and now auction off everything. Though I occasionally had a big month with them, most often my earnings could be best described as a slow but steady trickle.

A few months back, the auction people (I really don’t want to plug them) announced a new method of calculating affiliate earnings. They call it Quality Click Pricing. What it amounted to was less affiliate earnings. Still, every day when I checked the stats there were miniscule earnings posted. Then, around November 2, the earnings stopped. All of a sudden I ran off a dozen consecutive days with no earnings at all. The clicks emanating from my site remained about the same; it was just the earnings that dried up.

Figuring that something must have been screwed up, I emailed them. One of their reps came back to me with a discourse on the new pricing structure. I emailed them again explaining that even with the new structure, it seems odd that after two months of daily increases to my earnings all of a sudden they had stopped cold. I got another response elaborating on the intricacies of QCP.

Considering the dozen ads currently running, I came to the conclusion that space on my pages is worth a lot more than the auction people are willing to pay. So, I methodically removed every link and every logo from every related page. That involved well over a hundred pages, a hundred free ads. In the grand scheme of things, it probably doesn’t bother them, but it makes me feel a hell of a lot better.

I was visiting Samm's Tip Jar when I clicked on Cristina's Blog (http://cristinadlg.blogspot.com/) and, in addition to an interesting post, I discovered the "Follow" widget which shows pics and links of those who follow her blog. I thought it was neat, so I'm adding it to my blog. If you're in the blogspot community, go to your layout page, click on add a gadget and you'll see the follow widget listed there. Pretty neat. I'm going to run thru my friend's sites now to see who else has one or something similar. If you don't have one now, but add one, leave a comment.

Dear friends:

I would like to show you a cool way to show shot layouts directly inside of your blog. This will greatly enhance your readers' experience while reading your posts. Once you have a layout embedded in a post. We will broadcast them through our internet shot browser to more pool players around the net. From there they can jump right into your post with a simple click.

Some top professional players such as Mika Immonen and Thorsten Hohmann have already embraced this new technology. You are welcome to check them out at:
