Read This: Link Exchanges, Spam, and Deletion

In accordance with the group mission which is to share knowledge about the Blogspot/Blogger platform, I have begun deleting anything that qualifies as spam.

Requests for link exchanges, Digg exchanges, technorati favorite exchanges, StumbleUpon exchanges and anything else of the sort, qualifies as spam. I have seen far too many useful discussion threads about widgets, and other blogger tools buried under schemes to cheat the spirit with which all of these services.

I will not be on BlogCatalog everyday, but I will be deleting anything that looks like it is spam.

    That answers a question I just posed in my introduction

    Will be nice if BlogCatalog (and Blogger) implements a public spam deletion feature... whereas if more than x (say 3) users mark it as spam, it's removed. (or have they? I see the report link, but not sure that it does that.)

      Interesting... I would have thought if the feed were in line with page content, it would carry 'pertinent' weight - and it's fresh data.

      IMO, so long as your message in any post in on target, your sig can have whatever you want. It's your "signature", which typically represents whatever it is that you represent in life, so long as it can't be construed as offensive. But remember the saying, "Consider the source." Someone may not give your post much credit (weight) if your sig is questionable. For most blogs however, our sigs are our profiles.

    I think its ridiculous that as I am reading this post about not posting spam, there are two replies that are most likely bot spam. I cannot image how hard it is to read through and delete all the bot spam from posts.

      You should exercise the report link. I'm not sure what it does, but that's what I did. I'm hoping it's along the lines of my thoughts above (public spam deletion feature). At the very least, it should notify the owner so that they can check it out.

      Simply, because as I find BC less and less rewarding (in part because of spam) I spend less time on BC deleting spam.

    So there's a possibility that this group reported my blog as spam. My blog has been locked for 3 days. And maybe i can also report any blog here in blogcatalog as spam. If you look at my blog, it doesn't look like a spam. So it's time to report lots of spam blogs who are using blogcatalog. Sorry guys but you started it.

      It is possible that someone in this group reported you, and it appears one other was reported. However, you should understand that the act of reporting a message only alerts the administrator. So if you go reporting every thread, you will only seek to most likely (just a guess) have yourself removed from BC altogether.

    Ok, I see there are still spammers running rampant in here!

    Can you people NOT read and follow the RULES???? Don't you spammers realize that you TURN OFF potential readers by constantly posting nothing but links to your blog(s) and offering NOTHING of value to the current conversation????

    In case anyone has doubts, I HATE SPAMMERS!

    And, on the off chance that the admin of this group is reading this, if you're in the market to hire a few more "deputies", I'm FOR HIRE!

    I had to scroll down..ALL the way down to see and count how many people, even though warned many times over that they shouldn't 'spam' this forum still blantantly did self promotion with their blog links.

    Maybe it's a language barrier thing?

    Or perhaps everyone just doesn't pay any attention?
    There was another discussion group that a guy offered $5 to anyone who would go to his blog and leave a comment. Hmmm.

    Anyway...I can only pity the administrator here. It must be extremely dissppointing for him that no one follows the guidelines!

    Spam is not a good thing and I will say this: If a person has a great answer in a conversation I will click there name, check their profile and visit their blog. But when I see a post that has nothing of content and just tells people to click there blog I do not visit that blog. I feel most people do the same. Thank you for helping to keep the group clean of spamming.

      luckily i see yur site is not a hacking site (i wish all hackers of other peoples sites would get their backsides hacked in prison). Yous site is a windows hack site.. which is nice as it helps people to override microsofts silly settings which are like having a pair of handcuffs on with your own paid for pc. Nice blog - hope you dont hack websites though - that is evil destroying peoples hard work just to boos the ego. I once had 2 years of 8 hours a day work lost because of a turkish teenager hack my site. I wish that would happen to the hackers too so they see how it feels

    I too hate spam it is ruining the internet and the quality of www.
    But blogger also makes me angry often as all my blogs (30+ blogger blogs)are original content, but every so often one gets locked becase blogger says it is spam.. none of my sites are spam and it really chaps my backside to be constantly threatened with site deletion by blogger. the thought of losing all my hard work just because their automated spam system is useless. Also google's policy of punishing sites for double content that is available elsewhere on www is stupid as people all over the world are selecting text and re posting it on forums and blogs all over the www. It is impossible to avoid double content even if you dont do it yourself others will. They are just toop stingy to employ enough programmers and employees to take care of the work. Also blogger has removed any method of contacting them which means if they delete your blog you cant even speak to anyon e about it.. that should be illegal all big enterprises such as blogger should have a help centre that is not automated faq pages. I am considering moving all those blog contents to my own server and put an end to the inquisition.

    I agree that the group is being used more for blog publicity and less as a info platform.To stand with the groups mission you can encourage other users to lively participate ny creating new topics apart from blog publicity topics .But stopping users to publish blogs is -- may be , not right

    I will say that it is hard to start a group for Bloggers and not expect them to try and get followers for there own blog and link exchanges.. We are all in here with our blogss out there and I know I love when I get followers or feedback on my blog. To say its spam to ask someone to follow your blog.. hmmmm... kinda tuff there. Why did you join this group? To try to get followers for your blog? Or to talk about them... I am glad to write anywhere about just about anything. But I did originally come here to meet people and see if they would read my blog and let me know what they think. Just as I plan to do for you... So I hope people do read my blog. But also would like to meet some people along the way. Hope everyone is having a great day!

    If you take the time to visit others blogs and return a comment there or here or add a follow to a blog you like then it is worth it. However, to many people post begging for traffic without following through on their end or even revisiting posts or interacting with others which is the essence of these forums, groups and communities.

    Fair enough, I do understand what you mean, I for one is experiencing this with my email address on a daily basis. No need to say how annoying it is cause I bet all of you know the feeling of being bombarded by "force selling" yup that is how I call spamming. As for a site, spamming occupies data space therefore affects the loading time, see, It does not only affects the person who is being spammed but also those suckers, i mean spammers.
