  1. This is a hard one. I think it is science fiction but like the term speculative fiction anything that speculates about reality-- magical realism, alternate history, fantasy, science fiction.
  2. History and bios especially if they are combined, reading Ollie Cromwell at the present.
  3. My first choice has always been thrillers. However, in the last 2 years since I joined a book club my tastes have become more eclectic. I'm reading a much wider range of books now although I still tend to avoid my least favourites...
  4. Too many... Easier to say what I DON'T read - not into crime, horror or entertainment/sports bios.
  5. I love intellectual chick lit and memoirs.
    1. Can you recommend some intellectual chick lit for me please Ebbye? I'm not well read in this genre and what I find is...wet!! Thanks
    2. I love memoirs.
  6. Wow. This is a toughie. The books that I pick up most often don't fall into a specific genre that you'd find in a bookstore. My favorite books are books about different cultures. Italian culture and East Asian cultures are my favorites, but I love to read about all of them. I even started a reading challenge called 21 Cultures (which is on my Lost in Books blog if you are interested) which is dedicated to reading 21 books about 21 different cultures in the year 2009. I adore learning about people different than me.

Since it may be 48h before my blog gets put on the site, here is the link:

  7. Used to love fantasy, but so much of it is pure escapist crap I've gone over to reading literary science fiction (yes, there is such a thing). So, lately I'd say it is science fiction that takes a serious look at possible futures, based on social, political and scientific trends. Has to include well-rounded characters, and 'creative' writing style. In the genre, I believe they are called 'stylists'.
Also like graphic novels, especially sci-fi/fantasy manga.
  8. my favorite is Sci-fi from the 1930s - 1960s with a little of the 1970s for fun. The writing is less refined but it caught my imagination more than todays writing does and even now I get excited when I find something I haven't yet read.
  9. I've gone through genre phases in my life. I'm currently really enjoying urban fantasy. I read a lot of horror as a teen and in my 20s I loved (and still love) mysteries and thrillers. I've always had a big spot in my heart for most speculative fiction. SF is really the only spec fic I've never really cared much for. I don't mind reading it and I've enjoyed books that are SF, but as a genre, I just don't read in it much.

I love the idea of 21 books on 21 cultures! I think that sounds like so much fun

  10. Anything business, mostly business profiles of CEOs, no idea why though lol
  11. My favorite genre is memoirs, business. Although lately, I've been exposing myself to other genres (deliberately). Growing up I was in love with mystery.
  12. It was definitely science fiction when I was younger, but over the years I've headed more towards the fantasy genre.
  13. I'm a big sucker for any adolescent fiction (Laurie Halse Anderson, Markus Zusak, E. Lockhart, Alan Gratz, etc.)

  15. This is a tough one as I read all over the place. I went through a science fiction phase where I could not go into a bookstore and find anything I hadn't already read. It is a good thing authors are still writing... I also went through a vampire phase, an apocolyptic fiction phase, a classic phase - though this one continues to be an area I read in quite a bit. I am into Southern gothic, lately and anything ever written by Joyce Carol Oates. I am also reading through Jose Saramago (no idea how to classify him...). I also am always on the lookout for unusual "new fiction". I picked up a copy of Geek Love by Katherine Dunn in this way years ago and it remains one of my favorite books.
  16. I read just about anything
But a good Horror, Mystery and Sci Fic is My fave !!!
  17. Fiction- Murder Mystery type.
  18. I've always been a fan of literary fiction and the classics.
  19. I read tons of historical fiction, anything with ancient greeks, romans, celts and vikings(if it's well written)
  20. I guess I gravitate toward fantasy and historical and sometimes paranormal.

I enjoy many genres and often switch back and forth for variety.

It looks like one of the next hottest genres will be Urban Fantasy.
  21. My pick would be fantasy. But reading the books of the same genre, by the same authors or the same themes can get kind of monotonous. So, I tend to mix in other genres, authors, etc.
  22. I like fantasy and old classics (such as Jane Eyre, Tale of Two Cities, The Count of Monte Cristo).
  23. I definately have a postmodern bent in my fiction reading, but I have been reading a mix of Science/Philosophy lately.
  24. lol.. hehehhe i only read novels sometimes.. i usually read encyclopedias and dictionaries lol.. im a lazy type of person and reading books that are too long are a boredom.
  25. I really read lots of genres. Science fiction and fantasy are at the top of my list but also historical fiction, adventure and mystery/thriller books are on my shelf. I read Lord of the Rings when I was 10 and have been an avid reader ever since.
    1. Hahaha. I read Lord of the Rings when I was 10 and have been an avid reader of fiction ever since (I still loved to read before I read LotR, but I thought fiction was stupid so I would only read non-fiction).
  26. If I had to pick just one, I guess it would have to be historical fiction.
  27. I would have to categorize my favorite genre as self-help. Now that may be the typical self help and motivation or it may be books that help my career that are related to health and fitness. I am always trying to learn more and to be a better trainer, mentor, and friend so any book that would help me achieve my goals!
  28. I just finished what I hope will become a new genre--blog novels.

Written as a diary, it tells the story of a young woman who witnesses a gruesome murder in Amsterdam in 2012, a crime that touches off a Muslim rebellion that starts the Great Eurabian War. Using the blog format gives the novel a credibility and immediacy that is unique. Would love your comments. Amsterdam2012.blogspot.com
  29. It's hard to choose, but at the moment, I seem to be unable to resist, historical /esoteric crime thrillers, quite addictive!
  30. Hard to say, although I've always been into non-fiction, especially history, politics, and philosophy. But I'll read anything, really. For fiction I enjoy classics, some fantasy, historical fiction, political or crime thrillers, just to name a few.

Lately, I've mostly been into reading Hawaiiana, books by Hawai'i authors or about Hawai'i in general since that's what I am blogging about. There really is a rich and diverse wealth of literature here; I'd recommend it to anyone even remotely interested in Hawai'i.
  31. It is hard to say but I really enjoy just general fiction. If I find a topic that interests me, I read it. I am a diverse fiction reader. I would enjoy reading any reccomendations however. www.thetrademarkcompany.com
  32. I'll read almost any book! but I lose my interest continuing to read novels that doesn't give a good impact or have lost messages, I have this short attention span.
  33. I read anything but I am more into fiction (thriller, suspense, horror, fantasy and sci-fi).
  34. I read a lot of history. I also read alternate history, time travel stories, and books on writing as well.
  35. My favourite is history... Reading about tribes, pharaohs, ancient greeks...
