Business

I have affiliate links on my blog, afrobohemianchick.blogspot.com, and I am thinking about setting up my own Web site where I can promote my future artwork and other side jobs that I may take on. Has anyone else already done something like this?

1. Not sure if this is what you mean, but yes, I have my own website: www.themarketingspot.com, I use my blogs to add to my credibility by linking to them from my website.
2. Been doing this one web site 11 years now! Yes, you read it right.
I left my last career to follow my dreams of owning my own biz & being outside as much as possible. If you love California travel - check out Total Escape soon. www.totalescape.com
3. I have a magazine, Passionate for Life, www.passionateforlife.com
We have affiliate programs, Google Adsense, our boutique, and are beginning to sell advertisements on the site. The difficulty is in growing traffic. It is much harder to grow a website, than a blog.

My question is do you have a lot of traffic on your blog? If so, you can use your blog to promote the website.
4. Having your own website, in my opinion, is equal to truly owning your own business. I know a lot of people use blogspot and other free blogging platforms and I have nothing against using those as a promotion tool. But, at the end of the day, a serious business owner should have control over their asset. At a minimum that means being able to backup of important site files, and the ability to take your toys and go somewhere else if necessary.

Having your site on your own domain name communicates unspoken information to new people that you meet. It says I own this space, it's mine, and I want you to know I am serious about what I am doing. You won't know what the person is thinking unless they tell you, but believe me they are thinking something when they first see your url. It may sound petty, but it is a fact and wishing it to not be true doesn't change things.

All the free web properties and web2.0 communities are good places to hang and connect with people, but ultimately they should be considered tools for getting eyeballs to your own domain. Adding value to blogspot only helps blogspot not you. You need to consider your site an asset to you that could be sold as easily as a physical asset in your business. If you can burn a CD with your website on it and hand it to someone then you have something of value to sell a buyer. But if you can't, then you really don't own it.

I hope that is not too off topic to your question.

Check out the resource page on my site if you are looking for more information on how to setup a website of your own.

5. I have been running my main site needfuldreams.comNeedful Dreams for a while now. I have other Niche sites and a test site that I use for trying different things on www.43web.com43web.
Forget the free stuff, you need full control of your site.
6. I started with my website (www.m2jlstudio.com) and added a blog after. The website actually helped me get a good project and probably more in the future. From my experience, a website is key.
7. I have my own website...I just recently jumped on the blog bandwagon after many attempts at blogging and then failing or non-committing. The blog is more to communicate with my readers. My website is really a prelude to a publishing company I hope to start when I'm out of university. It's all about getting your name out there...

8. I have my own website. It is www.lucysdoghouse.net. It is a retail site catering to dogs and their humans. We try to bridge the gap between big box pet stores and pet boutiques.

We have been actively selling for a little over a year. I have two blogs, one is to gain added exposure for the website through links and the like. That one is languishing a little. The other is more fun and the majority of the posts have nothing to do with the business. I only just started it but I do for fun as much as I do it for the business.
9. I have my own website, and quite a few blogs. My network currently consists of right at 100 separate sites which are Christian ministry sites.

One of my main sites is www.inhisgloriousname.com which currently I have a portal up while designing a new site and one of my main blogger sites is inhisgloriousnameministriesonline.blogspot.com

However having a actual .com and webiste in my opinion is a whole other deal vs. blogs, and blogging.

I encourage you to have a .com with a web site and also the blog. It's like being a part of two separate online worlds.
10. Owning your own domain name is the first thing to do, even with blogs. It's part of branding. I 'Stumbled Upon' this blog of a teenage entrepreneur who has both a professional website and blog linked together --- How she has time to blog is hard to imagine! Take a look at
blog.edenbodyworks.net/2007/05/09/2007-entrepreneur-of-the-year.aspx
She did what many more mature business people fail to do until they feel compelled by outside pressures (e.g. the competition, customer expectations). Creating a website can only enhance your business and the process allows you to think outside your normal 'outside the box'! There are so many proven paths to expanding your customer base and improving the way you do business. I'm amazed by entrepreneurs who don't know the basics of using the internet as a marketing tool. I really like the dynamic nature of the blog posts where you don't have to go through the web designer, but can present your products on the blog then link to a shopping cart site to do the dirty work of credit card processing and invoicing. The web design business will shift as this interactivity increases.
11. I operate an auto restoration business and my website is www.nicholsonrestoration.com I use my website to promote our "rolling art". I have it linked to my blog autorestoration101.com and vise-versa. Owning you own domain name is a must. There are a lot of ways to set up and run a website fairly easy.
12. yes i have my own website: www.technoconvergingzone.com
and i also plan to go full time in blogging someday. my partner also has his own website: www.blah-blahblogs.com.
i advise you to have your own domain as early as possible, so that you will be able to see soon the fruits of your labor. it will just take lots of patience and time; it is easy, don't you worry.
13. Yup, I have my own website at www.SimpleWaysCoaching.com and I also have a family resource blog at www.SimpleWaysCoaching.com/resource plus my own personal blog at www.CassandraRae.com. Oh wait, and another blog dedicated to helping parents and teens connect at www.parenteen.blogspot.com

Whew...that's a lot! But, it's so much fun :~)

15. I think it's really nice to be able to join a blog filled with like-minded people who can share worthwhile experiences and (hopefully) ultimately help everyone in some aspect of their business. No matter how diverse the product or service itself.
We set up a webdesign and content management company, Bluetank www.blue-tank.com 7 years ago and have recently launched a sister product line, WebGems. It's a collection of professional website packages and templates designed to help people wanting to promote or launch start-up and small businesses on a smaller budget or those struggling to pay the higher prices in the current financial climate.
So, if you agree with what people have written here - that websites are vital to the growth of your business and also often to successful marketing yet you haven't quite got around to it, please visit our site www.web-gems.co.uk.
We're also currently working on a blog which we hope to launch soon so watch this space!

17. I have a blog (www.livewithoutwork.com), and a Twitter page www.twitter.com/pauldickinson I think internet startups are the way forward at the moment, especially in recession.
18. Absolutely. Since you're in blogger, create a link to your website. I suggest you put it at the very top where people can see it, and at the very bottom in your footer so people can see it there, too. You've got a lot of content on your blog, so make sure your Website is in a place that's highly visible.

Based on your niche, you may want to become a member of the forum dealofday.com. It's a shopping forum for deals, but you can add a signature link to your blog and mention it to the community there.

21. well, it is good to own your own website.
I call that control because you will get to know what goes on there, you will get to add and remove what ever your want and also control you income. I would encourage you to do that which your heart tells you. And do not forget that you will have to drive enough traffic to the new site, so plan very well for that.
