This might strike people as odd, even an evasion of privacy, but all in all I think it is a good idea.
GPS chips inserted into every person in the USA.
That way if your kid goes missing the police can instantly determine where he or she is and perhaps avoid tragedy.
Wonder if so-n-so really was at home watching TV instead of robbing the local 7-11? Take a look at his GPS record and find out where he's been for the past 24 hours.
Anyone else like this idea?

Can you imagine? I would like it, for one-sided use, of course! With all the privacy guardians out there, I think we as a society (U.S.A) are doing good allowing GPS tracking on vehicles and wire tapping with the proper, albeit exhaustive, legal paperwork.
GPS on people will never happen. Although I guess the house arrest ankle bracelets come close. One can only hope.-
Never is a long time.
But I agree that the current society is too interested in privacy to be comfortable with this idea. Even if public access to the information was prohibited. Other controls would also have to be put in place.
I think a good start would be to tag convicted criminals who have committed violent acts. -
Yeah.
I'm all for rehabilitating when possible. But I want the criminals to prove they're trustworthy first. That's where GPS tracking would be really helpful.
(Like if a guy convicted of child molestation is released and GPS shows he's hanging out around playgrounds. Obvious evidence that he isn't to be trusted.)
