I keep hearing it? Sure the social internet makes mass communication easy for everybody but as bloggers we know there is a challenge in it. I tend to see the web as another frontier with it's own influintials, kingpins, and gatekeepers.

In a sense, though, Kevin, isn't that what happens in a democracy? In practical effect, it's never about everyone having an equal voice but about everyone having an equal OPPORTUNITY to have a voice. That said, of course that's no more true on the Internet than it is anywhere else in life; the difference is in the factors that create an advantage. It's a place in which having the most money and politicians in your pockets doesn't determine your influence--today, anyway.

I had to think about that one a little.
You’re absolutely right.
Though I believe money and connections still make a difference it’s just a different set of gate keepers.
I guess I am still trying to come to terms with the Rave of Web 2.0. I am relatively new to blogging and so called social media. But I am far from new to the internet or computers. I was using Yahoo chats and instant messenger very regularly from 1996 into 2002. While blogging is new I had a website of my artwork back in 1999-2001 and website for my painting business from 2001 – 2003. I have also been using Wikipedia since 2000.
There are new websites and new tools but I honestly don’t see a whole lot of change. But I have heard a lot more talk about democratic media in the last two or three years.
I’m guessing I can isolate some influential bloggers, stumblers, and diggers and with a little bit of money in the offering take an advantage.
