First Readers

In acting as a first reader or requesting a first reader, how important is keeping "unauthorized" eyeballs away from your content? Would you be OK with pasting the content into a discussion here in this group, or would having access to a password protected forum like the ones at I can set up at www.firstreaders.org be better?

Would you prefer to send the content via a email message that would go to people who are willing to act as first readers and handle the back and forth entirely by email?

  1. Another option is to make this joining this group require approval, that would limit the number of people who could see things here.

  3. I'm OK with my posts being "out there". I have no copyright type of issues (Its freeblogware...or something).

I would prefer a little privacy however, if it is a first draft. You know, because the first draft isn't always the best possible "light" to be shown in.

Kind of like letting a first date see you in your nightie and curlers.

Maybe e mail or closed message boards?
    1. Email is handled easily. Now, do you think a single list would work best or topic based sub mailing lists?
    2. List for what specifically? Content only? Or a member's list? Both?

Maybe both would do...I think it will really depend on just how much traffic the group gets. I would say that keeping it as simple as possible is always the best bet. So, if we're talking about sending out first read material to the group right now, one list would be fine. There isn't all that much to wade through anyway.

If the group grows, sub categories would be better, so that drafts don't get lost in the shuffle.

      Is that what you're asking?
    3. When I say list, I'm referring to a members only mailing list. Kinda like Yahoo Groups thing but handled privately (since yahoo Groups messages all end up on the website) where people could send their request for a read to say requests@firstreaders.org and then replies would of back to the same list.

If needed, there could be additional lists since maybe some people don't need help with proofreading for grammar and spelling but want their content reviewed before making it go live.
  4. Thats a good idea...

    Lists Lists! I love Lists!
    1. Cool, if you wanna shoutbox me your email I can get the list created.
