Some Things That Need to Be Discussed'

OK, there needs to be a discussion here on several issues. First of all, I have discovered that the Group Discussions are NOT private. Anyone can read them, but you must be a member of the group in order to comment. I figured it out by signing out and then going to the Group Discussions forum. SO...that may or may not affect how we wish to conduct "business" here, so to speak.

Do we want to continue on BlogCatalog, or do we want to set up a BB forum somewhere? Forums are private to the public; you must be a member to enter, read or comment. I have participated in these, but have not set one up before. I don't know if we have to have our own website to do so or not (if so, it will involve a cost, of course). This is something to consider, and I'm willing to do the research into this, if necessary. However, my time has been rather limited lately, being back at work, and October is a very busy month for me. So I may not move as quickly as I (or you) would like.

Secondly, I believe that in order for this Group to continue, I will have to pay $6 a month via PayPal (I have a free trial week). If we continue on BlogCatalog, perhaps we could take turns making the payment (kind of like society dues).

Another thing to consider is: What should our criteria be to join the group? Right now, I have two possible members pending. I haven't approved them because one is still awaiting BlogCatalog approval, and I don't have a link to their blog to find out just what it is they blog about. The other has only one post that somewhat relates to genealogy. Is that enough? How do we approve members? Should they be regular contributers to the Carnival of Genealogy? My personal opinion is that they should exhibit a knowledge of genealogical research in archives and/or online, via their blog. They should have some level of experience. What do you think?

Next up: I don't want this to be "my" thing! Should we have some sort of leadership group/board? How do we set this up?

Lastly, I would like to see participation from more of the core bloggers. Just off the top of my head, I'm thinking of Craig, Jasia, and Randy. There's more, for sure. I'm not sure why they haven't joined us, yet, and I definitely want to include them. Perhaps this venue (BlogCatalog) is not what they have in mind. Has anyone heard anything from them or others? I'd like to know!
