   Gimp is awesome freeware software.You can do amazing things,when you figure out it's interface.If you learned photoshop before,you will manage with gimp too.Personaly I like path tool in gimp,more then in photoshop,cause I can tweak it when I pool the handles.Also you can export photoshop brushes in gimp,and use them like in ps..You can create html scripts for your website.Flash(experimental) and gif animations too.The only thing is missing is support for printing in CMYK.But they work on this problem.Gimp is the best opensource solution for bitmap graphics editing.You can check(car renderings) what I'v created with gimp below.
