Life and Times in Hollyweird

Hi, I'm John. I'm 26 years young and just graduated film school. I have made a few short films and have written three feature films. Before my time as a film-maker I was a photographer of 9 years as well as a graphic designer. I live in Hollywood and despite all of my endeavors, I'm broke. But I'm having the time of my life, leaving the dream. Your turn...

Right and here's my blog:

Life and Times in Hollyweird (a blog by: John Darko)

An honest take on the day to day lifestyle of a struggling filmmaker living in Hollywood. Featuring tips and advice on the craft of screenwriting.

  1. From the nights of Cabiria to the nights of the Dolce Vita, from the touching appearance of Giuletta Massina to the exceptional glamor of Anita Ekberg, I lived up and down a life time coming out of a Fellini's film. Permanently searching for my dreams as an artist to come true as well as searching for The total and absolute Love to live. I escaped from the neo-realism of my youth when I turned twenty and went to search for them both. The adventure began. In the very early 70's. Here are for you some extracts.

    1. hey pascal i love fellini as well as bertolucci and pasolini. nice to see ya here...
  2. Looks like a cool group, John.

I have written 4 full-length screenplays and a couple of shorts, and worked on a couple of indie productions. Since I became a mom a efw years ago, I haven't had time to write anything but my blog and a couple of books about my kids' adoptions, but I am still passionately interested in film.

To my astonishment, a producer contacted me recently about a script I sent him several years ago. It may get made one of these days - who knows?!

I write irreverent movie reviews if you want to check out my blog on that:

    Take care,
    Dee
  3. Ok, I don't write or film, but my brother does and my 14yo son helps him out sometimes. He (my bro) just won yet another Aussie award for his amateur films and is working on a much longer film.

However, I do have an imagination extraordinaire, and I do love films and even better I am a Master of NLP and Coaching, so hopefully I can add a few comments here and there that can illuminate this group or at the very least leave you all laughing:) .
    1. Hi AnnieRob, glad to have you here. What is your brother's name? Would like to check out his stuff, I have a friend who own a distribution company in Australia. Very cool.
    2. MY brothers names is Matt Haskins and his movies can be seen on youtube they are "Sparkys" (got a special mention), Mr Who (won best pic and peoples choice)www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-c-qcHO1TY , "The Cleaner" (won a best pic), the "Vengeance Trailer" (will be a feature film one day) www.youtube.com/watch?v=UL4umFpjC0g&feature=user and "Incubus I Miss You" (1st real attempt for film school).
  4. I used to be part of the hollywood scene...... it was fun while I was in it, but it got old and I could not stand working with actors that had ridiculous demands.

BUT I must say looking back, I will always cherish my crazy hollywood days of going to the cannes film festivals and flying in private jets with a-listers as their personal slave!

Keep the dream alive and have fun with your hollywood adventure.
    1. Wow sounds like you had a blast Hipcompass. I haven't even scratched the surface compared to that. Oh lord know I am trying though. Would you happen to have some of those old contacts? I could use a referral.
  5. My only movie connection is an awesome Netflix queue and an undying love of the goriest possible horror films. I also quite like The Umbrellas of Cherbourg.
    1. and that is all you need...awesome. what is your favorite gore flick. how about those old school italian gore films. crazy!
  6. At the age of three my father instilled the love of film. Weekly we would go to the matinee and see whatever was playing. As I grew up I fell in love with artfilms and film festivals. Currently, I have imparted this love of movie viewing to my children. We are always up for a good movie. I love photography and am self taught. I'm a writer and enjoy taking photos for my writings as well as photos of my children.
My eldest daughter is doing a design degree as well as wanting to go to film school.
  7. I guess everyone's tired of the same "hi, hello" introduce yourself phrase, but I can't think of anything else right now...so "Hi! Hello!"^^ I'm Drew. My blogs are not about film but about FREE Blogger Templates (templatize.blogspot.com) and FREE English tips (englishtrainer.blogspot.com), however, I do love watching movies. I have already dreamt of becoming a movie star. Hahaha! And most importantly, I would really like to study 3d animation and make my own movie like Final Fantasy or Appleseed. (yeah, ambitious dream^^)

    1. Hi MAYAMUROFUSHI. I really like your blog, very personal site, I dig it. Italy and Tokyo are two of my top places to see before I die. Thank you for stopping by.
  9. Hello, I'm not in the film industry, but I do like to watch movies (now that was a stupid statement). Anyway, I have always been interested on the behind-the-scenes action associated with the film industry. I want to thank you for inviting me to join and I wish you the best of luck:)
  10. Hi. My name is Preston and I live in South Jersey with my daughter and my two dalmatians. I do a lot of acting in community theater in the South Jersey/Philadelphia area. I lived in Costa Mesa and Santa Ana in the late 70's early 80's before moving back to Jersey. Cool blog you got there.
  11. Hi my name is Stephen Lee and I've been putting up between New York and Toronto. New York is where I work as a consultant to financial services firm, and Toronto is where my family lives. I'm also a blogger, web entrepreneur and author. Alright, that does not leaves me much time to sleep let alone be a worthwhile contributor to this discussion.:-) But, I won't passed up an opportunity to meet nice and interesting people like you folks.
  12. Hey guys it's really nice to meet all of you. Real interesting stuff here. Let's keep it going! Thanks for joining.
  13. Hey there! My name is Krissy and I'm a web / graphic designer from Baltimore, MD. I run a design website (6bdesign.com) and a pop-culture type blog (blendetta.com). I managed an indie music store which sold CDs, movies and games for 8 years. I guess you could say I was a part of "the industry" - just at it's lowest level. I at least got the opportunity to meet John Waters a few times! : ]
  14. Nice to meet everyone...
My only slight movie connection is my 11 year old grandson has been doing community children's theater for the last 3 years and having a great time!!!

Who knows maybe he will be on the "big" screen some day... :0)

Or maybe some day my jewels will be featured in a movie or magazine...that would be wonderful...we all have to dream!!!

    Cheers
    Heather

  16. Hi, I'm Elsie, a freelance writer/editor/proofreader (and always looking for clients, so drop me a line if you need blogs, ad or web copy, a resume, an online dating profile, or whatever you can dream up), web entrepreneur (I have a Cafe Press shop called Gifts From the Sea), unpaid writer of fiction and poetry for obscure literary magazines, and would-be writer of screenplays, hopefully the arty, independent type.

My blog, Singletude: A Positive Blog for Singles, at singletude.blogspot.com, covers news, research, advice, op-eds, tips and tricks, links, reviews, and more from a single-minded perspective.

  18. Heya. I'm an author. Mostly www.millvexations.com but I'm also slowly working on hyping www.helljammer.com if things go well. I live in Michigan and Arizona--almost simutaniously, but wouldn't that be a trick.

I came over here because I found Darko on Digg a while back and liked an article written on Hollyweird.
  19. thanks for visiting and nice to meet you all
  20. I'm Fred, 19 year old wanker from RP.

  22. Heya, I'm Elana and if I were doing this in person I would hate every second of it I've always loathed the group intro stuff. Thankfully this forum alleviates some of that socially-sanctioned torture. John, my question to you is...When do you sleep? Lol. You are one busy hombre... back to me...I'm a female with a non-stop brain and an insatiable need to express myself in myriad ways. I'm at www.nowiseeyou.blogspot.com and I think my blog is really wonderful. It simply allows me to just put stuff out there that I'm really excited about or just want to shout out, you know? THanks for listening! Peace 'n' warmth all...PS. John waddya think of Tarkovsky?
  23. I'm not a writer or anything like that. Just a huge movie fan, as well as theater. As well as a mostly stay at home mother, Life Coach, and counselor.

  24. Hi John! thanks for inviting me to your group. It's quite a thrill for me meeting a filmmaker such as yourself. I'm not really involved IN the filmmaking industry though I am also in media. I'm a broadcast journalist currently managing a community FM radio station. I also had stints in print (being a journalism graduate) but surprisingly I always get myself involved in radio.

    A pleasure meeting you again.
  25. Hey all! I have absolutely no ties with the movie industry. Although, I hear that I'm crazy enough to fit in! My blog is simply a reflection of how strange I truly am. Glad to join you all -- so thanks for the invite.
  26. I'm Lorelei, I'm a professional actress from the east coast and thought this was a lovely group to join. I have written one short film that is in post production and another one that is in pre production, I guess I just love everything about the industry

  30. Hi!
I'm happy to have found this group. My blog is mostly about my relationship with my husband. He graduated from film school recently and is already traveling all over the country (and outside of the country) working as a Director of Photography. I talk about my frustrations of being left behind to raise the kids while he focuses on making his dreams come true. My husband and I are also professional photographers and ran a successful photography business, but have put that on hold so that we could focus on other things.

  31. Hi, I'm Désirée. I write movie scripts. I live in Sweden where the market for such thing is narrow as the eye of a needle, so I write in English.
  32. My name is Julie: actress, blogger, current resident of NYC but moving to LA in a year.

Check out my blogs if you like:
