Modern Day Treasure Hunters

There are four people behind the blog at www.TreasureHunting.com, and our weapon of choice is a metal detector. But we respect all other forms of treasure hunting. Off the top of my head, here's what I came up with... anybody else have ideas?

Thrift Shop Junkies
Estate Sale Addicts
Treasure Divers
Beach Combers
Modern Day "Pirates" (a.k.a. Metal Detectorists)
Garage Sale Shoppers
Goodwill Scourers
Coin Collectors
Gold Prospectors/Miners
Relic Hounds
Civil War Buffs
History Fanatics

.... and what else?

  1. Privydiggers and Dumpdiggers of course! The quintessential Dumpdigger is a historian first (...has to know where to find the old dumps) and a preservationist, and of course a treasure hunter too!

Privydiggers and Dumpdiggers are both particularly keen on old bottles , marbles, toys and tools - the things most commonly found in old dumps.
  2. PrivyDiggers and Dumpdiggers are officially added! Welcome to the group! You've got a great blog and we enjoy it!

  3. Curb shoppers!
    1. Curb Shoppers is an excellent term! I've done some curb shopping in my day... I actually found an original, orange vinyl womb chair on a curb one day... retails for about $3,000.00 so I was happy. And it certainly lends a retro vibe to my house! Thanks for joining Kobus, glad to have you!
  4. I've referred to thrift shopping as treasure hunting for some time. Uncovering something that you either never imagined existed, or which you'd never imagined finding, is hugely rewarding. And as with archaeology, it is possible to find a little bit of history along the way.
  5. Recylcing yards are also an absolute treasure trove for the treasure hunter. Great places to fossick about. There is definitely a lot of junk (useful junk to the right person - renovator, builder, homemaker, crafter etc )I have found things that should have been sent to antique auctions or stores. I wish I lived closer to some of these yards - I'd be there daily checking up on (or sifting through) the daily arrivals
  6. I dug up something in my own yard. Last weekend I emptied a planter that I had grown herbs in last year and had filled with soil from the garden. Then I saw something shiny... turned out to be a half inch sized amethyst!

Well I haven't turned into an avid garden digger now, but it won't hurt to keep my eyes open in the future.
    1. WOW, Astrid! That's an amazing find.

I usually just find bits of pottery when I dig in my yard.
  7. One other thing I do is scour the left behind goods of departed sellers on our annual (free for everyone to sell at) flea market in the streets of our city. I have no name for it. Read more here: trashcollector.blogspot.com/2008/05/queensday-2008-and-more-clothing.html
  8. Oh my goodness.....I can actually ((hear)) Savers call out to me! Then, I have no choice but to go and look for my treasure! It is like an indoor garage sale!
  9. Treasure Diver. Mostly inland lakes. I find everything that fishermen, skiers, and recreational boaters drop overboard. Knives, fishing rods and tackle, Wallets! No diamond rings yet but, you never know what's down there till you look.
