Wow - Where has the time gone?

Hey guys,
I haven't posted anything here in awhile and I feel awful about it. For those of us here at TreasureHunting.com, our hobby so frequently keeps us out of doors that it's hard to remember to get on the computer and keep at this.
We don't make any money off of our blog, it's space is paid for by a sponsor that we do business with, Kellyco Metal Detectors, and we aren't in it for any kind of payoff. We truly just want to collect all the neat treasure stories across the internet and post them in one place.
Now - for the topic of this discussion: Where has the time gone?! Have you ever looked back at a year and realized how fast its flown by? (of course you have!)
But doesn't that put into perspective how recently our OLD treasures were once NEW treasures? Doesn't it make you look around at your belongings and think "Wow, what do I have here right now that someone will cherish as treasure-found 50 years from now? 100 years from now?"
I know our cell phones and our nice shoes and our HDTV's won't be considered treasure long from now (heck, not even in my life time), but seriously - what do we have in our lives that others will treasure decades from now?
Sitting in my home office, looking around, I see a few things. My silver, engraved money clip. My gold nugget ring. The antique grandfather clock I have. My coin collection...
But there is very little that has been made in the last 5 years that I would say I "treasure." What does this say about our society? What does this say about our legacy? What does this say about what we treasure?

These first high definition TVs could actually be worth more than your gold - if you put them back in the box and sit on them for fifty years. But I take the point.
The most interesting thing about modern collecting is the rise of digital communities that have grown to support all niches - the internet empowers mavens, moms and business moguls alike and now its never been easier to find that missing piece of your jigsaw puzzle collection or find an expert on any subject.
I have no doubt the downturn in the economy will spark a rise in 'treasure hunting' which will lead to a rise in collecting in general. And Shaun, I hope we can position our websites to be relevant in this emerging trend. -
I have often thought the same thing. What have we done? I guess possibly in 20 years the electric car maybe a collectible. I have visited a great site kpentersee.com/treasurehuntingtools.html it has nothing to do with this topic but I did fint it interesting.
