My Life Thinking
A friend of mine asked me today how I came up with the name "Race the Sunset" for my blog. I think for most of us blog folk there was that moment when we were registering our foray into the electronic universe when we had to assign a name to the undertaking.
I had toured some blogs, looking for ideas. The names I read ran the gamut from the silly to the sublime and every shade in between. Some, I suspected, had to be pretty easy. These were the subject specific blogs, focusing on things like cooking, crafts, photography and other hobbies. Some were extensions of a person's professional life, offering insights on the ins-and-outs of their particular vocation, or avocation. For some, the blog title reflected a particular view on any one of a million different issues from all parts and angles of the political spectrum.
My problem was that I wasn't sure exactly what my blog was going to be. I have a few passions, motorcycling being a major one, along with freelance writing. In the end, I decided to start with motorcycles and just see where my heart would take me.
In the summer of 2002, I climbed aboard my trusty bike for an epic journey (for me, anyway) of what ended up as about 5,000 miles through the American southwest. The journal of that trip can be read here:
It was on the first day, the leg from Columbia, Missouri to Liberal, Kansas, a distance of roughly 600 miles. The sun was sinking towards dusk, casting ever longer shadows. The amber-colored wheat fields I'd been riding through most of the afternoon caught the dying light, reflecting a marvelous palette of subtle shades, shifting constantly as the stalks bent in unison to the whim of the prairie zephyrs. As I closed on Liberal, I watched as the sun slid towards the horizon. I was headed in the same direction, and I suddenly realized that as the sun was going to its allegorical rest, so was I. It was a singular moment of beauty and peace, magnified by the presence of an enormous sky, a dome of azure marked here and there by clouds now becoming tinged with gold. On a motorcycle, there are no doors or roof in the way; there is only you, the bike...and God.
There on that lonely road through the Kansas prairie, I raced the sunset towards evening. It was an unmatched feeling of beauty, peace, and freedom; a moment I have since stored in the vault of my most treasured memories, to be taken out from time to time and gently, carefully held in my hands.
As I sat there in front of the computer, that memory came flooding back. And in that moment, I knew my blog could have no other name.
While I still write motorcycle pieces, my blog has become so much more. I have written about books I have enjoyed, my fascination with tornadoes (sparked by my duties as a storm spotter), baseball, football, family, 9/11, geneaology...the list goes on and on. It has become my outlet, my release...and my place of refuge. I've learned that the secret to this blogging thing is to pay attention to the world around me, and take note what thoughts occur as a result of my interaction with this all-too-often confusing and tumultuous thing we call "life."
When my heart is touched and that often stubborn door that holds the secret store of eloquence swings open, those thoughts and feelings pour forth. And it is here that I bring them, not only to free them, but to share them with others who know how important, precious, and deceptively fragile they truly are.
For it is here that I open my heart and soul.
And it is here where I find my peace.

As a writer, I put a lot of thought into titles.
"The Wordsmith's Forge" is my main writing/editing blog, among other topics. "Smith" originally meant "maker of..." and the other part of the word specified the product or material. So this blog is where I talk about making things with language.

"Hypatia's Hoard of Reviews" is an archive of my book, music, and product reviews mainly in the fields of speculative fiction, folk music, and Pagan nonfiction. This title is a reprise of one that I've used for years on review columns, "Book Reviews from Hypatia's Hoard." Hypatia was the last Librarian of Alexandria, and one of my ancestor-patrons. For some reason, she likes to appear to me as a dragon amidst stacks and cases of books.

"Gaiatribe: Ideas for a Thinking Planet" features articles on environmental and social issues, community, Paganism, networking, activism, and other topics. "Gaiatribe" is a portmanteau of "Gaia" (the Greek goddess of the Earth, and a reference to the Gaia theory), "diatribe" (a discourse or lecture), and "tribe" (a community of humans). "Ideas for a Thinking Planet" refers to the premise that humans are the part of the biosphere tha can reason consciously, which gives us a responsibility to take care of the Earth.

I named my blog "Breath of Insanity" because I am, according at least half of the people who know me, a breath away from full-blown insanity. I was diagnosed with Adult Attention Deficit Disorder in my late thirties, and to my mother that was a gift from God because she could finally put a name to all of the whack-job things I had been doing all my life. I, of course, run with this characterization of myself because it's fun to see the look on people's faces when I go from seemingly normal to weird in 2.2.

Well there's a Nirvana song called Endless, Nameless which was basically [as written in Heavier Than Heaven] Kurt getting frustrated during the recording of a song (Lithium) and breaking his guitar and stuff.
It's quite a powerful, instinctive, angry, emotional song. It seemed to describe many things that I tend to feel but keep inside due to some people not accepting it or frowning upon it. It was a song of freeing your emotions.
My emotions are freed in my blog, and my spirit is free in my life. -
my blog is named after me: meltormes.wordpress.com
Blame this blogging industry for spreading viral narcissism, but my blog is not just about my random thoughts. The topics i write about varies from Christian living to lifestyle, from leisure spots to common places to be in...and just about anything that matters to my human existence. Feel free to drop a line! Your suggestions on how to make my blogsite better are welcome. -
Uncertainlife.com - To me this was a clear choice because the world around me and everyone is uncertain. My blog is a daily posting of mindset topics. I do this as a reminder to myself and others to always think positive.

Hey everybody, I wrote a post about the story of your blog:
zebida.com/main/what-is-your-blog-story/ -
The URL keyboardhugger.bustablog.com, because according to my sister, my hands are always on the keyboard.
The blog title meanwhile "Just Another Blog...oh puhleez," was something random, I just couldn't think of any and i'm still thinking of changing it. -
When my cousin, who knows I smoke a lot of weed, came over one day and asked as he walked in, "Is this the weed shack?" I've never heard anyone use that expression before, so I've been using it myself, and it was just perfect for my blog now that everyone calls my apartment "Johnny's Weed Shack" lol.

National Rage came from the general era of corruption in capitalism and politics: nationalrage.blogspot.com
Bible Decoded b/c it's the metaphysics underlying the parables, metaphors, and symbols (fish=new ideas, bread=spiritual substance, NOT FOOD!), which generally confuse everyone and have them believing in the magic and superficial stuff rather than the perennial wisdsom hidden within: bibledecoded.blogspot.com
Worlds Best Films was not only available but everything similar had no posts in them, IF you Google this, I'm the top two hits!! worldsbestfilms.blogspot.com - nearly all my hits come from Google search.. (btw, worlds best film, singular, has one post, so I added a comment to it - after 3 yrs!)
I have a private one, called God's Golf Ball, that I may take public anyday - that came from Captain Beefhearts music production company name! and it was still available.. it has a crazy compendium of mythology and posts on euphemisms like the F word.. it should just be adult I guess and not private - I have 2 readers!
Lots of great names were taken! To wit: FinalDaze, ImpendingDoom, ScaldedMonkey, Decadense, BlindPig, FriedPal, HiddenAgenda, TheMagus, UsAndThem, ChildhoodsEnd (the Arthur C Clarke novel - but I did get "Child of Zen" - only 3 posts, not public yet)

A title is so important !
I found mine by scrambling all kinds of ideas for hours.
It had to be orginal, different, powerful and meaningful, just like the title of a book.
Here's the result : "Two Pounds of American Mind" (or why French people need less brain and more guts).
Hope you like it.

For anyone who knows any Korean, my blog's title doesn't actually make any sense. But my husband's heard bits of Korean here and there, and he's put them together very randomly. I just thought "annyong seumnida" made an amusing title for a blog that focuses a lot on Korea and Korean.

Mine is called "Going to hell with her spectacles" It sounds a bit rough and edgy but my title comes from a very comment or old phrase called Going to hell with her handbag or hand basket.
It’s just a way of saying about something or a situation is quickly taking a turn for the worse without effort or with great haste. Mostly that’s how my life was back when I was in collage and high school. Even now…..my friends call me jinx at one point! Hence the name of my blog is created……well since I not the type of girl you see walking around with handbag…..so I decided to put what represents me or most obvious about me …..my spectacles….mine is the only one in class that had the “transition” effect before anyone even knew about it ….LOL -
Since my mom and I share in the care giving of my grandmother, I wanted Dementia to be in the title. I thought of an old song with the lyrics "tea for two" in it. Since there are times when I feel that my grandmother and I both have Alzheimer's, I came up with "Dementia for 2".
Now that she has "leveled off' for a while, I find myself writing about others things that happen in my life. However, my blog is more about what obstacles we have had to overcome and how we handled certain situations that have arisen since her mover here.
