What is your favorite camera?
Me myself haven't owned many cameras, but my current one Olympus E-500 is definitely my fave.
Getting a dslr is a whole new world compared to compact cameras.

My best analogic cameras were stolen last summer (1972 Asahi Pentax Spotmatic was one of my favorites)... now I'm using Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20 with great Leica's Lens.

I have a JVC something or other (not close by to look at) camcorder. I has a hard drive and a card of some kind I use for the snapshots. That's where my current avatar came from. I probably should learn how to use it better, since I spent about $700 for it.

I am sitting here checking the front door every so often for the delivery of my new Canon XTi. I'm not a very good photographer but I make up for it by the sheer quantity of photos I take. I had the Canon Digital Rebel EOS and after 13,000 plus pictures, it finally gave up the ghost. I am really looking forward to learning more. But for me, you'll need a discussion thread for people who need you to use very small words. I hear "aperture" and my brain freezes...
Thanks so much for the invitation to join. What a great idea!

I have like four the fuji finepic, nikon coolp3200, conon A410 (pos though) and a kodak its in the truck not sure what model.
nikon coolp3200 this one my kids left in the rain can you believe it still works! great cam! but my fav is the kodak -
currently i've a sony s600 and a fuji finepix 450. both were fairly inexpensive and both take excellent photos for my needs. the sony is my fave of the 2 but my naughty cat is tantalized by the strap and pulled it off of the counter twice. oh what a wonderful noise your camera makes when it crashes onto a hard floor...or not! evil cat. so, the auto-lens only comes out when the stars are in proper alignment or something now. ugh.
i use point-n-shoot cameras because they've come a LONG way in quality and functionality. mostly i am happy with the results. i do not have a good understanding of the technical stuff but want to learn because such amazing photos come from the dslr cameras. i've come close to buying a dlsr a few times but just could decide on which one to get. -
I have a Pentax Optio M30. It's OK, but a lot of my picture come out blurry, especially in low light. I don't know if it's the camera, or me. When I take pics for my blog, I will take close to 50 of them, to make sure I have at least one good one to post.

I still like to pictures with an old Minolta slr, and I have an older digital cam we are about to replace (which sadly was top of the line 6 years ago - haha).... any suggestions?

Hey though i like photography i am not a pro.Usually my fone doubles up as my cam.I know thats silly but thats how it is.

I use a Canon SLR and Canon DSLR both run of the mill (Rebel) and all of three lenses (although i have an eye on 2 or 3 lenses). But i also use 48 vintage/antique cameras (some of them broken or missing parts) and a box load of plastic/toy/paper/hand made cameras - i like to be surprised.

I recently got a Panasonic dmc-fz7 with leica lens, i just love it. I'm feeling like picture everything, i never leave it at home. By the way, as i'm new here, let me tell you that i've discovered great shots, bravo all with a special one to you jungle. I love the way you use light in you shots.
kind regards,

I got an Olympus E-300 about 2 years ago and really like it. Of course I start drooling when I see the newer versions (i.e. E-500), but truthfully it is still more camera than I know how to use. I'll hang on to it until I outgrow it I suppose.
The thing I really like is the way that the camera, (4/3)lenses, and flash all can 'talk' to each other to set an optimum shot when I am too lazy or busy to do manual settings.-
Sweet, a fellow Oympian! Never tried the E-300, but have seen several people that like it. Isn't it often referred to as the ghettocam because of it's blocky/ugly look?
I love the 4/3 zuiko lenses! Bought the 11-22mm a couple of months ago and love it to bits!
Also really like the 35mm macro lens. So small, compact and ultra sharp.

Hey Everyone!
I have been shooting for many years now. I just started using the new Canon XTi body. It seems really nice. It has all the fundamental features but what stands out to me is the 10megapixel sensor and the built in sensor cleaner. I use a Canon 24-70mm f2.8L lens. The biggest battle for me these days is getting a grasp on the computer aspect of it all; file managment, understanding Photoshop, etc. -
I never had a 'serious' camera until I got into underwater photography. Until then, all I had done was the standard family shots with some inexpensive point-and-shoot camera.
When I got serious about underwater photography, I finally bought (over time) a full line of Nikon submersible camera gear: Nikonos V camera bodies, a full array of Nikkor U/W lenses, Nikon & Ikelite strobes, and a bunch of accessories.
My underwater photography got me interested in taking pictures on land. (Most underwater photographers I've met tell me it was the other way around for them.) I became particularly interested in macro photography.
So, about 10 years ago I got a Nikon N90s and a few Nikkor and Tamron lenses for it. My very favorite is the Nikkor 105mm, which is so sharp that the results just knock me out sometimes -- hairs on insect legs and stuff like that.
I've considered getting a digital camera body (Fuji maybe?) that would accept my Nikkor lenses, esp. my beloved 105mm -- but let's just say there's only so much budget for camera gear in a given space of time, so... still shooting film.
I'm still using a point-and-shoot camera for travel, but at least it's a digital one -- a 5MP Kodak. I've had it for a few years. It's nice and compact and I can get a pretty good result. A better compact digital one is on my wish list, too.
Right now we're in the process of scanning the thousands of slides, prints, and negatives we have accumulated over a lifetime. (We're old, so we do have literally a lifetime's worth stashed away.) Nobody wants to haul out a slide projector to look at photos these days, so we thought it would be a good idea to digitize the lot before they completely deteriorate and put some on line, and burn the rest to CDs/DVDs as an archive.
I've been posting some of the old underwater ones that we've scanned -- the ones that have stories to go with them -- on my new blog, The Right Blue:

I bought my Pentax ME Super in 1991, and I still use it. The thing is a work horse
It has a 28-80mm f/3.5; 80-200mm f/4.5; 135mm f/2.8; and a 600mm f/8.
My automatic 35mm is a Canon EOS Rebel with a 50mm f/1.8; and 80-200mm f/4.5
I also shoot with a Mamiya C220 6x6, with 80mm lens set.
my website has a blog and photo gallery.

I have a few cameras, but I'm still in love with my 25-year-old Pentax K-1000 with automatic absolutely nothing. I use a digital for everyday, but if I care about the results I always default back to that old Pentax.

Ah, finally. A few free minutes. Ok, I'm in with Jungl, Aussiesync and Wordjunkie (people with obvious class and taste) as a now devout Olympus fan. Recently (about 3 months ago) upgraded from the Fuji S5100 to the Olympus E-510.
Currently only running with 2 lenses, the Zuiko 14-42mm and the 40-150mm. Still trying to get used to almost square pictures (Olympus 4/3ds system), but love the idea of cameras actually designed for the digital age.
Light durable lenses are nice too! -
I just joined up here and saw this group
For the bulk of my photos i use a Canon 400D. I like it because its relatively compact and light and has some really good features for the price. I also like Canon glass, i think they have a great selection and pretty good pricing. I really with the 5D replacement would hurry up and come though!
But i also have an Olympus OM2n and OM10. I really love these (especially the OM2n), and use them when i want the photos to have a particular look. Its fun taking the time to set up a shot and really think about the composition etc. Im just trying to finds more lenses for it, eBay is starting to get expensive!
cheers

Canon Powershot & Occasionally; though I don't really consider this a camera, my razr phone. Comes through in a pinch, but calling this a camera is like calling a Pinto a luxury automobile.

My personal pick is Nikon, but Canon is awesome too. Major difference being that Canon has a faster focus speed. Although I recently upgraded my D70 to a D80 and it seems to me that the D80 focuses as fast as a Canon. I tried them side by side when I was buying. I love this camera it's the perfect balance between product and cost. It took some getting use to the smaller form factor and I was a bit upset about having to buy SD memory to replace my CF, but I do enjoy not having to carry the bigger cards around. I have to say that over all, this is a perfect camera for anyone that wants a professional level product at an affordable price. The only thing missing that I do wish they included is the self cleaning sensor. Oh well, it's not a make it or break it feature.

Genek, Nikon and Canon are both great cameras and mostly it's all about which one has more comfortable controls for you(or any other user who tries them up), that's all
Nikkor lens are a wee bit cheaper though.
The reason I post this is a scene I witnessed couple of months ago in a store, when a person was choosing a camera brand and salesman was making up some great fairytales about the difference between cameras etc
Used 'em both, love 'em both

I've got four cameras. Wow. Should I be ashamed to admit that? :-D I've got a Nkon Coolpix 5700 that I need to send in for repairs and hope what's wrong is covered. I can't see out of the eyepiece or on the display so it's just sitting.
I have a Panasonic DMC-LZ3, just a little camera for something simple I can throw in a small purse.
I have the one I'm in love with now, the Fujifilm Finepix S8000fd.
I also have another one that's kind of old and it's around here somewhere but it's rather large and takes one of those Superdisks. I got it when digital cameras were fairly new. One of these days it will probably be a collector's item just because of that disk. :-D -
I own and operate a small weekly community newspaper so I needed something portable but also capable of taking fairly decent photos. I've been using an Olympus SP-500UZ which, at 6 MP, is just fine for my use. The 10x optical zoom is good and I'm still learning how to use the macro settings. It's a pretty solid camera.

Canon D1000 or D450 for newbie, the kit lens 18-55mm pretty good for landscape photography.

In 1998 I bought my first digicam: a Nikon Coolpix 950 for over $1200.
Then I spent the next decade using it to it's fullest extent, traveling & camping all over California, Baja, & Utah. I even created a enitre web site around my travels & it is my only source of income these days.
Last year my Coolpix finally died, so I bought another used one on ebay for $80 & now the madness continues.
