I hate movie theaters. They're always too crowded, too expensive, and I always get seated in front of the people who won't shut up. But I love movies.

So, a while back, I saved up to buy a nifty TV. I DVR movies in HD I want to watch again and again.

My latest obsession is Dream Girls, which I put on in the evenings when I work out. The music gets me moving!

What movies are you hooked on lately?

  1. with all the new home theatre technology and projector theatre is becomnig pointless..
but i like to go to theatre for movie event the next one i'll see to cinema is gonna be : cloverfield!
  2. I like anything on the Criterion Collection. Also artsy fartsy ones, foreign and small releases. I go through phases... sometimes I don't rent DVDs for months and only go to the theatre. I would tell you what my most recent DVD watches are but this is a religion free zone.

    Also... love the Architect series.
  3. I hate movie theaters too, I got some old favourites of mine for Christmas.

So Princess Bride, The Goonies, Planes, Trains and Automobiles have been watched a lot.

I have also gotten some Anime films off my cousin that I have really enjoyed.

Oh watched Casino Royale and was impressed by Daniel Craig, his acting was good to
    1. His acting WAS good, but not his most impressive bits

I like Casino Royale as well. I kind of didn't want to, but I did anyway.
    2. I have never been a James Bond fan, maybe it was just him but I really liked this one.
  4. Having finished the book Memoirs of a Geisha ages ago, I have finally gotten the dvd. So will have to see if I like it as much as the book.

    Anyone seen it yet?
    1. Memoirs of a Geisha is a great movie! i like it very much!
    2. Have you read the book?
    3. Memoirs of a Geisha is an even better book. loved it.
    4. It certainly was, so I am looking forward to seeing if the film does it justice.
    5. Hmm... I haven't even read the book yet. People keep recommending it, so I think I really should. And definitely before I watch the movie.
    6. I thought it was a movie that shouldn't have been made... it was very poorly done in all aspects of adaption and overthetop emoting... i found mysef fast-forwarding. Enjoyed the book. Well written prose/characters.
    7. For me, the movie did not do it justice. Movies rarely do any book justice for me. My imagination while reading is much too vivid for movie versions to please me.
    8. I liked the film. But the book was a million times better and I found myself explaining what was going on to whoever I was watching it with. Haven't read it in years, must get it again.
  5. You are saying you are watching the same movie again and again?
    1. Yes, but only because it's a good backdrop for a workout. I do tend to be a bit OCD-ish, but usually, I watch different things
  6. During the holiday season Brian and I kept up our usual tradition of watching "Love Actually". We both love that movie.

Lately, we have been more into documentaries and have been working our way through the BlueRay versions of Planet Earth (narrated by Richard Attenboro).

Has anyone seen the movie adaptation of The Kite Runner? I finished the book a week or so ago and its still in theaters here so I'm debating going to see it.
    1. David Attenborough, Richards brother (I love him)
      That series is amazing
      en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Planet_Earth_(TV_series)
      www.bbc.co.uk/nature/animals/planetearth/
    2. In regards to Kite Runner, no I havent seen the film, but I think I will be getting the book.
    3. Oops! Ok, I knew it was an Attenbor.* - was doing it from memory of the name flashing past in the opening sequence. I've watched through Fresh Water (#8?)
  7. As for movie/book connections... i'm going backwards on The Golden Compass... it was a fun movie... not the best ever... but I just started reading the book to see where the author originates his humanistic/atheist view.
    enough said.
    1. I just got The Golden Compass in the mail a few days ago. I already saw the movie but it felt weirdly overly complex to the point that I figured I must be missing something. Thats why I bought the book.
    2. If you enjoy the book, you really should read the other two in the trilogy. I loved them.
    3. I found that the books were weirdly overly complex, not see the film yet.
