I just stumbled upon this:

I though it was pretty cool!

I've hiked a lot in the snow. I don't like to run when it is very easy to slip and fall. I tripped over a curb and damaged (maybe broke) my little finger about 6 weeks ago. However, perhaps I'm uncoordinated, but I now (based on mud from my calf muscles, or calf regions) that I brush my legs with my feet.
In very cold, wet weather, with tights and possible or goretex wind/pants on, this is even more obvious (the rain pants aren't cut for running, more for hiking, and are a bit bulky).
I think, therefore, that while running, I might shred my legs, or at least my clothes, with the spikes, though perhaps not (maybe I'd just step on one of my feet). I use these (below), which have no sharp edges, though I only walk or hike in them. If I need them, I don't run.
