Runners, Runners, Everywhere!

Anyone use this method? I interviewed Jeff for my website--www.BasilAndSpice.com: Author and Book Views On a Healthy Life.

Jeff is a former Olympic athlete, runs a well-known program, has written numerous books, and is still in terrific shape himself.

My sister is a fan of his--she runs marathons.

  1. Wow, that's so cool that you got to meet Jeff Galloway! How did that interview come about? Would love to hear the story.

I regularly read his column in Runner's World, & know several people who religiously follow his training methods. I've incorporated his general running advice into my training, but haven't yet tried any of his specific running programs like his run/walk method. I have heard many good things about it though!

Are you planning on trying the run/walk method or perhaps have already tried it & would like to share your thoughts on the program?
  2. Where is the article? I was taken to a squarespace, website builder page. I'd love to read. I guess I could Google Jeff Galloway though. Thanks.
  3. Jeff is going to be in Denver this weekend. Looking forward to meeting him!
    1. That's so exciting, Dave! You'll have to let us know what it was like to meet Jeff. Are you going to write about it on your blog? I'd certainly read your post about it if you did. ;-)
  4. Could get access to his article. Just like kad625, I was taken to squarespace. I'd like to have a peek at it too.
  5. Sorry about the problem! Here's the direct link to my interview with Olympic Athlete Jeff Galloway about his reknowned Run/Walk Method.

  6. i used the run-walk mehtod to train and compete in a 50k last fall and found it to be very useful... in truth were i to run another marathon, i would definately utilize this startegy... the only thing it requires which is different from regular training is the psychological component: often recreational running folks (myself included) think they are not really "running" if they "walk"... nothing could be farther from the truth! the time and wear-and-tear i save by walking at planned points in the race, combined with a sensible pace, results in a faster overall time as your splits don't get incredibly longer as when you just run til tired then sl-o-o-ow down... that's my two cents anyway!
  7. It's corny but lots of non runners are able to get through a marathon using the Galloway program. I would think learning how to run a sensible pace the first half of your marathon accomplishes the same goal-Galloway's program forces you to do that. I've seen him speak- he is very good but I only agree with about 50% of what he has to say.
  8. I finished my first marathon in 4:19 using his run/walk method. I didn't even feel run down until mile 23.

Walking doesn't just slow you down, but it also gives your legs the opportunity to use different muscle groups to contribute to your forward motion so all the stress isn't constantly in the same area. Ultramarathoners have always used a variation of his methods ('walk the hills'), he's just one of the few who advocate it for "mere mortals".
