Runners, Runners, Everywhere!

To wear or not to wear, that is the question. Indeed!

Check out this post, seecoreyrun.blogspot.com/2008/08/should-men-race-shirtless-that-depends.htm..., & the original article in Runner's World, askmiles.runnersworld.com/2008/08/i-just-got-into.html.

So what do YOU think?! "Eepkay or ixnay the shirt?!" ;-)

  1. There's a guy in town who was even written up in the local paper for always running in racing shorts with no shirt. We run at about the same time, one day a week (often my only day). I've been out running with the wind chill well below zero and the thermometer at 10 or 12 degrees F, and there he is, with no shirt. I don't get it. He must have some frostbite from those conditions. I'll have a whole bunch of layers on that I keep adjusting. Also, unless he is religious with sun screen, he is going to have skin problems from the sun in the summer. I wear a hat and shirt and sunscreen in the summer. Growing up in Arizona, I know that skin cancer is a serious and common problem. And no, the belly is not such a pretty sight in this particular case. I vote "do as you wish, but use some sense and consider that running is an aesthetic experience for some of us!"
  2. Orangutans and "puffy" people need to keep it covered. The only guys who I think should run shirtless are the ones that are built well enough that they don't NEED to run shirtless.

Of course, that's kind of the same view I have of women wearing spandex.
  3. Running shirtless is always more comfortable, I think, so long as one can overcome psychic hang-ups.

However, though I'm all for equality as a general principle, I have to agree that those with bodies that might be especially offensive may wish to practise sartorial modesty as a courtesy to other runners - at least until all that exercise has its desired effect on one's physique.
