Runners, Runners, Everywhere!
Ok, I've only got 3 more races planned for 2007 - a 10 Miler and 2 10k's - with my next "A" race being the Shamrock Marathon in March 2008.
What are everyone's short term and long term goals?

Great discussion topic! Thanks for creating it, Steve.
I can't think too far ahead right now, since I'm still in the mileage building stage, but I'm definitely planning on running the Twilighter 8K (in Rockville, MD) next summer (July 2008). I'm also considering running the Cherry Blossom 10-Miler (in DC) &/or Pike's Peek 10K (again in Rockville, MD), both in April 2008.
Hope to be running 13 miles or more at a good clip by next spring!-
Update: I'll be running the Rockville 10K in November, & am considering doing the 2010 Shamrock Marathon.
Didn't end up doing the Twilighter this year, but plan to do it next year. Would still love to run the Cherry Blossom 10-Miler &/or the Army 10-Miler. Riley's Rumble & Pike's Peek 10K are also possibilities.
Good luck to everyone who's training for road races!

I am in training for the Great Baddow 2008 10 mile charity run. Few people will have heard of this run, as Great Baddow is a little village in England that is not really famous for much, other the Marconi Research Centre. I have never been a runner, at school I disliked cross country. The only activity that I have ever really enjoyed is kung-fu. I started weight training a few years ago, and started running this summer. My main ambition is to lose weight and get fit - kung-fu and weight training do not encourage me to lose weight - with both a bit of extra weight can help! If I fail to get myself fit enough for the 10 mile run, there is a 3 mile "fun run" as well. Currently I am only running a max of 3 miles. Hopefully by May I will be running more! I will probably also be asking lots of questions next year about how far to run etc. before the big race.

A spring half-marathon, probably either the Platte River Half or the Colfax Half Marathon in Colorado. I'm following the intermediate in the 'Brain Training for Runners' book, which is a big jump in mileage compared to what I've been used to. I'm in week 6 of my training plan now, and am feeling great so far.
Best of luck to all of you in your upcoming races! -
I'm in training for the St. Louis Marathon on April 6th. I trained for and ran the Chicago Marathon last year but didn't get to complete it, because they closed the course early. I didn't want to wait a whole year to complete a marathon so St. Louis seemed like a good choice.
Best of luck to everyone in what you're training for! -
I am training for my First Half Marathon. It is the Run The Reagan www.runthereagan.com in Snellville, GA just about 5 min from my house. In fact I crossed past the Reagan Parkway a couple times and ran along side it for a few miles when I was out running my 14 miler on Saturday.

I'm tailoring my training to get down to my college weight. I'm 10 pounds away! I'm doing high intensity weight lifting and high intensity interval cardio sessions to really ramp up my metabolism.

I've got one more long run before I do the JFK 50 miler on November 22. After that I'll be doing the HAT run in March.

I have a blank slate. I trained for and did a sprint triathlon and a 5 mile road race in August and October, but don't have a race on the horizon. However, I'm running better and better, if not enough, and am having fun with it. In fact, I'm not really sure how I can improve when run so little: typically only once a week, with a long walk also part of my weekly routine. I do throw in the occasional bike ride... Doesn't seem like much, but then "running better" doesn't mean "running well".
