Pentax are excellent... I am so happy with the camera and the company. The camera is very reasonably priced compared to many cameras with the same or similar spec. Its true there are no preset user modes so you do have to sit and read some of the manual. The one thing I really love about this is the 1 touch RAW. Because I take so many photos I take general shots using the high quality JPG but if there is something I want in RAW I literally press one button on the front of the camera and I get RAW and JPG. without having to go into the Menu and change over.
That just saves a lot of time but also space on my card. It's my first Pentax.. Im not a seasoned photographer but I have sold several photographs taken with this camera to friends and that is inspiring in itself.

I have learned that it is not really the camera that makes the pictures itself. I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT and I bought it for a great price. It comes with its small 18-55mm lens which is useless unless you are just photographing outside or always with the flash. I had to photograph a wedding once and I knew I needed a better lens so I picked up the Canon 28-135mm lens which works great in just about any situation. I use it in low light or in bright light situations and it is awesome. I am thinking of upgrading to the Canon 5D or 20D, still not sure yet. Any suggestions I would be greatful.

Yup! The camera only helps you to capture great photos but it's really the shooter that matters the most. Here in my country a famous photographer told us that "It's the Indian and not the Bow that makes great photos". Even if you have the most expensive camera and lens you won't get nice photos if you don't know what you're doing and no eye for beauty. It also reminds me of racing, put a mediocre driver in a modified car he'll surely lose but put a modified driver in a mediocre car then you have a race of your life!

I have a couple Hasselblad's, they are strictly for portrait photography. If you want them for anything other than portrait photographs, I suggest you go with an SLR, instead.
-
Unfortunately all that I had taken with the Hasselblads was lost last year when my house burned down. I haven't used the ones I have now much, and since my photography is part of how I pay the bills I don't share it on the internet, since my past bad experiences. It's amazing how many unscruplious people there are online.

Bobbi,
What do you recommend that we do to protect our work from theifs? How can we go about showcasing our work but still be careful not to get it stolen? I am only curious because I have noticed sites that claim they protect your work by blocking the right click option but yet if you look deep in the code you can find the exact location of a file. I was able to steal my own pictures off of my Better Photo gallery.

After a battle with a photo hosting site, that I was using for promotion slideshows, I no longer put my photos on the web, except for those that I sell in my shop. I have watermarked, try the right click blocking, I even found the software they use to remove the watermarks. Your best protection is don't share if you don't want to find it elsewhere claimed by those that have never shot a photograph in their lives.
Sorry for the rant, it still upsets me that this happens. -
Hi Group
I use a Pentax istDL2 + Sigma 17-70mm lens.
The Pentax/Sigma is a great combination for all situations - i won't need an upgrade for a long time (I'm not a professional).
You can have a look on my personal page www.flickr.com/photos/oruehl

I just bought a Nikon D40 (got it today!) and before I used the Nikon F55, my phone, my boyfriend's olympus-I-don't-know-which-model, anything at hand basically.

I use a Canon 5D which I just purchased a month ago to shoot my first wedding assignment. My first camera (and still my great tried and true camera) is my Canon Rebel XTi. Ultimately I would like to get a Canon Mark...but by the time I can afford it, they would have produced a Mark 12 (they are still currently on Mark II I believe!)

I have a Canon Rebel XTi with the standard 28-55 lens. Love it, love it, love it. Of course I'm comparing it to my old, heavy Canon AE-1 film camera. The jump to auto focus lens, lighter weight, and digital workflow still has me dreamy eyed a year and a half later.
I've talked this camera up so much that I know of 6 or 7 of them that have been purchased just off of my raving.
Having said that, I'm sure that Nikon and others have excellent models.

Hello! Just joined the group and have been photographing for years.
I have a Canon 20D and 5 lenses, plus 580EX flash. It's an old (by now) model, but it has served me well. I'm waiting for $$ to upgrade, tho.
