  1. My name is Charles McKeever. I am the founding member of this group and I write for my Internet Marketing blog, OpenSourceMarketer.com, a blog for Blogging Entrepreneur's who want to use their blog to make a full time living online.

My blog has a lot of articles on blog traffic generation, affiliate marketing tips, how to use social media sites to get blog readers, how to conduct interviews with experts, how to build opt-in email lists, etc. At the moment I am focusing primarily on how to use social media to get blog traffic and how to convert those visitors into loyal blog readers.

Please share your experiences with the group because that is the best way to achieve accelerated learning. We all have something to share that can help others solve a problem or achieve better results.

    1. Hello Charles,
This group is going to be the most actively participated among all other groups.
      Thanks for initiating this.
I visited your blog which I find to be with very useful information. I subscribed to it.

I noticed a comma ',' (Internet Marketing blog, OpenSourceMarketer.com, ) which hinders the opening of your link.

      Cheers Chrales.
    2. Rangan. Thanks for the heads up on the pesky comma on the end of the url for OpenSourcemarketer.com

That must be what was tripping some people up when they were clicking it in the original post.

      Cheers!
    3. I hope to enjoy it here.

I'd be interested to learn what others in a similar position as myself are doing and share ehat has and has not worked of us.
    6. Hey Charles,

Thanks for setting up the group! Check out www.internetstarting.com for information on blogging, setting up a website or starting a web-based business. My grandmother once told me, "If you can't explain it to your grandmother, then you don't really understand it." So, we cover some pretty advanced topics, but break them down in a way that someone just starting out will still be able to follow along!

      Enjoy!

Since you have an almost toothpaste commercial smile there, I joined the group.

    Thanks for the invite.
    1. Thanks for that. You have an interesting blog. I like the individual letter cut outs. It seems playful and fun. What is the overall theme for the blog and what are your plans for it's growth? Is it just for fun or do you have something else in mind?

Thanks for joining the group. Just in with a topic and let's make some noise.

    1. Thanks for being a part of the group. I see you are using Odiogo.com on your site to provide a text to speech version of your blog posts. I use talkr.com on mine and it seems to be getting a pretty good response. What have you seen with Odiogo? Are people using the audio? Does it give you any stats? I like the voice font they use it seems to be very clear and pleasant. Do they offer a choice between fonts?

I can't wait to see your discussion topics. Don't be shy, just hit us with your best stuff. We are all hear for you.

We joined together and have close to 20 blogs now.

My single biggest problem is the physcology behing blogging, as far as my readership. Like who exactly are my readers?

Let's get a topic going on this. Yes?
  6. Hi all,
I'm a newbie to blogging but after a few years experimenting with websites the blogging seemed to be the way to go. Obviously my first objective is to try and make money and I appreciate finding a group like this which can maybe help me out,I know i've got a lot of criticism coming my way but that's what I need to get where I want. I'm new to BC too, only just got accepted and when I have more time later today i'm going to check out a lot of blogs and read all in this group, thanks for starting it and thankyou in advance for letting me be a part of the group.

  8. Hi,
My name is Balaji. I am very interested in learning about the trends in blog monetization. There are many competing and complementary programs today and it would be great to see what works best in terms of a) user control and b) revenue/effort.

    FYI, my blog is www.personalonlineretailing.com
  9. I'm Regina y blog is www.SchoonerBoudicca.com

It's a blog that follows my family's adventure of living on a boat. We are getting it ready to move to Key West and for a circumnavigation in 2010. I would love for it to help finance the trip!
  10. Hi Charles, I'm Iset.

I stumble upon your group from Bluecyberman's page. I started blogging for about one or two months now. It is really interesting to see how people is generating traffic. Some people do not even try to increase traffic, but they got "gazillion" hits; just from writting what they do today in their lifes. What worst is that they do not sell anything in their sites. Others, I think they kind of realize that they can make money out of internet, but too late, they write in Wordpress that do not allowed advertising so they ask for donation straight out. Thats blogging life, I guess.

After visiting many blogs and sites, the one that seems to be attractive (to me, at least) is when one is explaining/posting what one is selling whether it is the bloggers own product or affiliates products. One gotta sell what one is selling, I guess.

On other note, have you tried social networking site that pays its users. I wrote a bit about it. Here is the link to the post:

    inform-me-now.blogspot.com/2007/10/few-days-ago-i-joined-social-networking....

Thanks for allowing me to blabber a bit here...

  16. Hello!

Happy to have found this group. I blog about my business here: www.ITVVenturesHomeBusinessBlog.com/blog and about MLM/Network Marketing and working from home in general here: www.MLMWorkAtHomeBlog.com/blog

I think people prefer to do business with people they can relate to, and who seem real to them. There is so much online that seems larger than life, and my industry is maligned every day because of those who misrepresent what MLM is about. MLM is marketing - ot is in the name after all. MLM is selling. If nothing gets sold, no money flows to anyone.

If anyone tells you otherwise, run away, run far, far away:-)

I love blogging because it is so much easier to get ranked in Google with a blog. I have a website at www.Organic-Foods-Mom.com that is 2 years old, that doesn't get the traffic that my blogs do (I started them in Oct & Nov 2007). I do have a secret weapon, but it is off-topic for this thread.

    Be well,

    Tracy

  19. Hello Charles, hello everybody,

Thanks to Charles for setting up this valuable group and thanks to everyone who is contributing to it.

I am worried about my behaviour. I have been obsessing about my blog. The past two nights I have stayed up past 3am tweaking it, reading other people's blogs, writing comments, Digging, Stumbling, Twittering. All verbs which to 99% of the people who know me would think I was digging holes in the dark while chirping manically to myself. They would not be too far wrong at that.

It all seems very exciting but also quite scary, as I recognise the signs of impending addiction, from my previous struggles with addiction to alcohol, tobacco and other behavioural addictions.

Who else has issues with spending time on their blog and social networking sites when there are other more important or urgent life priorities that are being neglected?

I am really struggling with this at the moment. I have a two week late website to finish for a client. This particular client is not in a special hurry and is very understanding, which is partly why I have let it slip.

I also have a university essay assignment that is now 10 days overdue and I am probably close to the point of being denied consideration for anything that I might produce and submit there. If I had put all the effort that I have invested into my blog and social networking in the past week into that assignment, it would probably be a High Distinction or Distinction level assignment.

Charles wrote "We all have something to share that can help others solve a problem or achieve better results."

So, to Charles and others, my problem at the moment is lack of life balance due to a high level of focus, possibly obsession, with my fairly new and growing blog.

This type of behaviour is a recurring pattern for me for at least 30 of my 37 years on this planet. Can anyone suggest strategies for managing my focus, like setting up blogging schedules, rewarding myself with an hour on my blog activities after completing a major to-do task, etc.

I am going to explore some of the information over at ZenHabits.net - I already purchased the Zen To Done eBook. I will start by implementing a couple of the strategies provided in that book.

I will write an article based on what I discover and how I turn myself around from this asymmetrically heavy focus on blogging and restore proper balance to my life, so I can truly "Blog And Grow" as a man, grow in my relationships, growing my business, competing in yacht racing (something I love), meeting my commitments to myself and others while still exploring and developing my blog and my social networks online.

I'm glad to be part of this Social Media Marketing and Blog Monetization Group and I hope that I can return here with further contributions that are of value to my fellow group members.

    Namaste,

    Bradley
    1. Bradley,

Fantastic entry. I completely agree and to some degree I think it passion, obsession, and self sabotage that leads us down this path. Also some of the tweaking that you mention occurs when we have no definitive end point. I know struggle with this same affliction.

Here is what I have found that helps and it is not always the answer people want to hear. It's planning. Sitting down and writing out your goals then breaking those goals down into actionable steps will set you on the right path.

When I've done this in the past it has worked wonders. I have been able to get things done and identify when I am waisting time. It has helped to take my mental hamster off the wheel. And, if you include your non-blogging activities in this goal list then you will naturally work out a balance because you will be planning goals according to what is most important to you.

One thing to point out is that it is easy to slip off the curb a few times, even after the plan is written down (you must write it down) and you are on your way to achieving. That's okay because as soon as you realize you are off track, you just adjust your course and keep moving forward. Don't beat yourself up for being off track, just get on track and work toward the stated goal.

From time to time you may need to adjust the plan, but at least with stated goals and action steps you will know what you are adjusting and how the changes will affect what you want.

This concept is very much like writing a paper using an outline. Without the outline (the plan and action steps) you will most likely end up with a collection of words that don't flow very well, if they make sense at all. But, if you start out with an outline, you have a much better chance of success.

      I hope that helps.

  20. Hello Everyone,

By chance I stumbled upon this group this evening and thought this was a pretty good place for me to be.

My primary blog is imbloggingthat.com which focuses on social media, networking, blogging, and site ranks. Recently I started my first post series named "Race for Rank" in which I'm exploring new ways of increasing my blog's rank with PageRank, Alexa, and Technorati.

My other two blogs are my work at home (geared towards Moms) blog at 2girlsandorganizedchaos.com and my sometimes overly personal blog, raiseitcleanitblogit.com.

I'm looking forward to getting to know the group and your blogs.

    Katy
    1. Katy,

Welcome to the group. I have visited both of your sites and I must say I am very impressed with the clean designs and the openness of everything. I would love to know who does your design. Is this a custom job or a "tweak" of an existing theme? Great job either way with the content. I can't wait to mix it up with you in the discussions.

      Cheers,

      Charles McKeever

  21. Hi Charles,

Thanks for the visit! And, for the compliment as well. All of my blogs are designed by me, www.kissmycode.com. No tweaking of any premade themes. My business partner is hooked on coding while I tend to do the design and placement aspect.

Looking forward to speaking with you more.

  23. Hello, I am Timothy W, Crane, the creator of the Regular Joe Marketing Information website. I have found a way for people to combine two of the most popular money making opportunities on the Internet. One, being an Incentive Website Worker, and two, being a Product reviewer for profit. It allows people to make money off of the incentive websites without ever referring a single person if they wish. It also allows writing product reviews for continual income without technical knowhow or even having to test products at their own cost (I pay them even if they choose not to write a review). My main job is affiliate marketing for the submitted reviews people send to me, and promotion of my website, as well as playing very hard with my 3 kids, ages 2-4-6. Working at home is the best thing I have ever done. I hope to get some good tips on affiliate marketing so that I, and the people whom I promote reviews for can monetize on them as best as it can be done. Thank you.

  25. Hello Charles,

First of all, thank you for creating this group. I am a graphic designer - instructor - crafts designer. The main reason I created my blog was because I needed a great way to share and network with other minds alike. Blogging definitely changed my life and also the way I do things. It's great.
I really love maintaining my blog, adding new features, changing the look and galleries at times...
There are many people out there that would love to connect and promote their products or services. I am actually teaching a class on blogging in the spring.

    Regards,

    Gabriela
  26. My name is Lindsay and I run www.supersweetlife.com

I just started this blog in the last month and unfortunately don't have all the time I need right now to put my all into it, but I am trying to accomplish what I can. My goals for this blog are for it to be profitable and for it to help others somehow. I am one who really enjoys her leisure time and would love to be able to work from home at least part time. These are long term goals of course, since I have much more to add to the site. I am determined to succeed in the blogging world, so at least I have that going for me
  27. Hi, Charles

    I'm Ivan and I manage eczemaclub.blogspot.com

I run an (hopefully) informational blog on all things about eczema, including eczema treatments, aritcles and blogs for one mission only: create better awareness on eczema and the impact of eczema to the people who suffer from it - rather than making money from my blog (although it would be nice if I can! :D)

Welcome to the group. Are you using CrazyEgg to track what your visitors are clicking? I see you have a lot of great options on your site and as a site owner I like to know what people are really interested in so I can highlight those options over others.

If not, try a free CrazyEgg.com account. It is a pretty popular tool and I use it on all my sites.

  35. Hi Charles and everybody

I'm Hjörtur Smárason, an internet marketer from Iceland. I started my Marketing Safari (blog.scope.is/marketing_safari) about 6 months ago where I blog about marketing and social media. It has been growing very fast for the last few weeks and is now listed on AdAge Power 150 and Marketing.Alltop.com along some of the greatest marketing blogs on the net. Check it out, you might find something useful there.

I also run a blogging network in Icelandic with 5 blogs which is quite popular, reaching about 10% of the local population each month. Still, I could do a lot better in monetizing my blogs.

My main income comes from consulting and I use my Marketing Safari blog to build recognition and credibility, with great success.

Look forward to learn more from this group. Great initiative.

My blog just got approved and this is the first group I've joined! Looks like a good one, too.

My name is Eunice and I own a website and blog (www.simple-internet-strategies.com and www.eunicecoughlin.com) that are both focused on helping people that are new to the internet marketing community. I remember being totally baffled by the jargon and other IM concepts...everyone seemed to know what they meant except me - so I decided to serve that "newbie" niche.

I look forward to exchanging ideas on this forum. Most of my blogs are for specific niches such as dessert recipes, but I have one blog that concentrates on how people make money online, mainly by presenting mini-bios (some skimpy, some detailed) of internet marketing masters and how they make money online: www.InternetMarketingMasters.com. If any of you would like to share a bio for me to put up there, let me know.
