Wordpress SEO

I recently checked my page source on my front page, category pages, single post pages and others, I was just about appalled.

another good way to get a feel for what kind of job your blog software is doing generating a title tag and description is to do a google search on your domain. and see if the page results show the keywords you want predominately and if you would click on the title you see.

If you are interested, I would be glad to discuss what I did to improve it

  1. I checked couple of your blogs and they are all WordPress .... why don't you use All-In-One SEO plugin? it will do exactly what you are asking for. Although there is a huge discussion on whether those meta tags matter any more or not - I prefer to error on safe side As long as your meta matches content on pages - it will not hurt you. SE are not stupid and if you try to stuff meta tags, you will get nothing but consistently providing RELEVANT meta keywords and meta description will definitely not hurt your blog ... I have on my blog a WordPress Web 2.0 Guide which includes quite a few plugins, including one I mention above .. feel free to check it out.

  2. I love all-in-one seo. one thing to be careful of though is this. Some templates don't play nice and you may have to delete instances of empty keyword and description tags that are built in to the template and are above all in on. They will trump the plugin. The easiest way to know if your title and description tags are displaying correctly is to do a site:www.yoursite.com search in google.

That will retrun all your pages and you can check it out.
  3. Correct me if I am wrong please, but G doesn't only rely on description meta tag to get the description for your page. It depends on the keyword entered by the searcher. If it can't find the searcher's keyword within your description meta tag, it will search the entered keyword within your post content, if the keyword found, G Bot will use sentences around the spot as your page description, it even fetch the description from the comment section too if it can't find it on your post content

I am still doing analysis about this matter too, if you're interested, you can check my post below. Well, it covers several things other than meta tag but I think it's closely related:

So, if you ask "Do I care?" : Yes, I do care about meta tag and having a well written description meta tag is very important even G sometimes ignoring it (in regard to the keyword issue) But G is not the only one out there right?

Maybe that example might help someone understand how it is.
