You are using Wordpress on Wordpress.com - currently they don't support any form of advertising unless you pay them $300 a month for a VIP hosting account.
People do get away with affiliate links and graphic adverts sometimes, but if you get caught, you can have your account shut down. -
No but it's easy to setup your own wordpress blog on a free webhosting site. Follow me on adsense-novice.blogspot.com and soon on wordpressnovice.blogspot.com to know where and how to do that.

you can insert anything you want into wordpress script if its on your own server (own domain)
if wordpress they dont let you do anything which is why blogger is better for such purposes.
For blogger please dont use the built in widgets for adsense as you wont be able to track the ads and see if they are paying you for them.. always better to create your own ads on adsense cp and insert them into your blogger blog using the html widget -
you should have self hosted wordpress blog to enable you insert ads like adsense like i do on my blog www.skyje.com
