Writers and Writing
I write dark flash fiction and poetry myself. I am just interested in seeing what other people are writing.

By day, consumer legal education materials, marketing copy, sales brochures, form emails, articles on legal issues in the news and such.
In the past and one my own time, newspaper articles, music bios, fiction, essays, parenting articles, articles on writing and freelancing, curriculum and a bunch of miscellany. -
During day - Technical Manuals and How To Tutorials - Like 'How to Not Get a Virus'... Into the lonely hours of the night poetry, short fiction and for the last year a very long over-due novel. Yet it is reaching for the stars but time hasn't been in my favor on getting it done, which is what happens in the real world. Any helpful tricks on organizing time for writing long pieces without forgetting about the little details would always be good, but in all current state of my mind I've probably heard them a thousand time during the workshops and books i've read.

P.G. Wodehouse apparently wrote his stories and novels in an office, with the manuscript pages attached to the wall. The ones that were funny enough for him were at a level. The others were above or below that level.
I've not run into that technique elsewhere. Although it would take a lot of wall space, it would be an excellent way of tracking a long work's progress, and keep track of what needed revision.

Fantasy novels at the moment, although I have my father's WWII memoire (which I ghost-wrote for him) that I want to turn into a screenplay or novel once I get this fantasy trilogy published. Also have a couple of fantasy short stories floating around in my head to submit to an anthology some friends are working on. I also write articles on writing on my writing blog, and articles on my art career on my art/writing blog (I'm revising my "how to sculpt" book soon, too, so writing goes on the art site as well as the writing site).

Fiction of all kinds, although for the last few years I've been immersed in a speculative near-future world that is the subject of blog fiction, a POD book and a book I'm editing in order to pursue traditional publication.
I also dabble in historical writing (non-fiction), but haven't done much with it lately. -

I write fiction and technical non-fiction, and I blog blog blog about current events, politics, culture, and assorted scary/weird things, that of course, everyone needs to know about.
I've written/co-written three commercially published non-fiction titles, two independently published novels (err, real independent).
I've got two more novels on the way, one is outlined, the other has me in a deep research phase. -
I write non-fiction articles about a variety of subjects, all of interest to me if not near and dear to my heart. I'm also writing an epic apocalypse novel that may never get finished if I can't quit embroidering on the theme. I spend more time refining details than I do moving the plot forward, whihc is no way to finish a book.

Since everybody here is so serious & dedicated about their writing, I've also decided to publish my first book! Book in advance before November, 2021

Blog posts are what I write now, for the most part. That's not as trivial as it sounds, in one case, since posts for "Another War-on-Terror" blog typically run around 500 words and involve research.
I've got a sort of comic book on the back burner: It's a new format for me, and fiction hasn't been my strong suit. -
Philosophical articles, words of inspiration, health, humor, sports and some poetry. these shall keep my head busy (searching for words to say)...

You are welcomed to my blogs , and I would be grateful for you comments.
The question "What do you write?" sounds to me as the questioning "What for do you breathe?
I can answer just one - I'm alive till now.-
Welcome, Tomas. The "for" makes a big difference. I don't think anyone is questioning WHY we write, but WHAT we write is a different issue altogether. We all breathe air (presumably), but the writing focuses of our nearly 200 members are quite varied already, and only a handful have weighed in on this thread.

A follow-up question to the initial...do you write what you write because of some particular drive/interest (love poetry; am fascinated by the workings of antique engines; have a passion for making the complex accessible to the average person) or is your motivation more practical?
For me, it's a bit of both. I write fiction and blog just because I feel like it, but I've done a lot of writing for pay for no reason other than that I'd rather be playing with words than anything else--it doesn't matter all that much to me what I'm writing about. And then, in my day job, I appreciate the opportunity to convey my particular knowledge base to people who need it. -
hhm. got I little nervous here. It seems you guys are all professional writers. I feel rather misfit to be with the group but I insist. Anyway, I love writing I like to share everything and anything what my heart dictates.
-
Emma, I'm sorry that I didn't see this sooner. A writer is a writer; whether or not someone cuts you a check isn't what determines the quality of your work or the depth of your spirit. Besides, don't forget that there are 228 people in this group and you're only hearing from about 30 of them on a regular basis here--I'm quite sure that we have a wide variety out there.

Fiction: (novels and short stories)
science fiction, adventure/fantasy, gothic-horror, comic books, children's fantasy
Non-Fiction: (mostly articles for web sites, but working on a book too)
writing how-to advice, pet articles, comic book history articles, a-slice-of-life-in-the-real-world non-fiction article/stories
also, I write about anything that pops into my head at any given moment -
Fantasy fiction, adult fiction and just about anything that rattles out of my brain and to my finger tips. I dabble in poetry and critiquing. I love adding a little humor into my writing and getting reactions from people in the form of posted comments. Currently trying to write a little romance, but its hard to keep the hand on the knee and not show what happens when the lights go dim.
I will learn though. With advice from other writers. -
I basically write anything that pops into my head. I never have the intention that a certain piece is going to be a short story or novel, a romance or a fantasy, it all just happens. I don't think I have any particular style, although some might use the word waffly
As long as I'm writing, I'm happy. I used to write articles, web content, etc. I enjoyed it because I was constantly learning, constantly thinking, plus it's good practice. I never realised how many ideas and inspirations I would get from something that could seem so boring at times.
I blog about other people's work because it gives me an excuse to read but I love blogging too, now that I've found something that never gets boring. -
I discovered awhile ago, that given access to enough information, I can write about anything. I've been given an opportunity to ghost write and I'm excited about that, because I can help give form to genius. I've published in several genres and like them all equally. I do find blogging exciting and immediate. I guess Marshall McLuhan was right about the direct relationship of the time it takes us to access information, and the time it takes to change. Our world is changing faster as our ability to access information over the web increases. Marvelous.

I write fantasy and a little sci-fi. I also have some fan fiction in the works, but like everything else it's kinda in a stalled mode.
I think I have too many projects.
Though I have managed to keep a fairly consistent schedule with Mary Quite Contrary. Now if I can just get the creative juices flowing for all my other projects things would be great. -
working on final edits of the nonfiction book, The Last Whale. It gets inside the head of whalers and anti-whaling activists as they duel round the wild Southern Ocean. It's set in 19777. Will be published in 2008, the 30th anniversary of Australia harpooning its last whale

Also need to do a rewrite of a children's book, a bit of fiction. Good fun but hard work. -
I wrote everything from press releases to newspaper articles to published poetry and started on couple of screenplays but never finished it. I think short content such as articles and blog posts suits me better since I have such short attention span. Maybe one day I will get around to a novel but what I want to do more is to translate my father's trilogy which is published in Korea. Loosely based on my family history... that means I have to learn to read Korean again!
I also love to write in my journal.. which reminds me.. I haven't done that in awhile.
Blogging is a godsend... I love it.. although it is a lot more commitment than I thought it was going to be. -
I never tell anyone that I'm a poet but my poetry has been published far more than any other kind of writing that I do. I'm not a poet but I do write poetry when there is a call for poetry submissions. I am a short story writer both creative non and fiction. I'm proud of my short stories and I think my favorite reading is good short stories as well. I once read a quote that said short stories were the hardest form of prose to write. And I agree with it. But my heart lies in novel-length commercial fiction. My blog is all about my trying to finish my books and get published someday. www.tarahlynn.com

I have co authored two books. The fun part was designing the book covers for both books, doing the editing and preparing print ready files for the publisher to print the books.
The first book was a children's book and the second book was a book of original sayings and quotes. Both books are books of encouragement.
Currently, I am working on two books for publishing. Both are also books of encouragement.
Here's a interesting site for authors.
