OK so this is coming a bit late, as is traditional with our town...
We had our BIG 4th celebrations tonight as opposed to last weekend (and if anyone is wondering if I'm a bit snockerd they would be correct although I did NOT drive or need to do anything important so I'm Ok for getting drunk as a skunk) - we do things a bit late - a week late as it would seem (goes hand in hand with our town being historically burnt to the ground and catching up later during the revolution, but anyway...)
So we had the BIG fireworks tonight and the first song straight off is always the national anthem.
Now I can disrespect a lot of things in this world - God(s) know I can - But that's just not one of the things that I can disrespect.
Our forefathers were the original revolutionaries. They were the original SOB's sticking a giant middle finger to the aristocracy bullshit and saying F*#&@(CK YOU A&@(*@)HOLES!!!!!! We're gonna do what's best for us and ours, and we don't give a lfying rat's ass what you think!!! Nyah!!!!
How can you disrespect that?
As an anarchist, I cannot find it in my heart to be so disrespectful as to not get teary eyed during the national anthem played during a pseudo re-enactment of the very battle that waged on our waters right here, where I live. How could I?
So yeah. I teared up a bit. And I danced (yes, I dance). And I clapped, and cheered.
Wouldn't you?
I mean, of all the things in my life that I would like to see done, our forefathers tried to do. They tried their damnedest. Regardless of how it all turned out, they did their very best to get this world to be the best for their next generation. And that's what I want, too.
That's what I argue and blog and fight for.
What would you do to ensure that your children and grand children get the very bets world they could possibly live in?
All politics aside, what's best for PEOPLE? What's best for your children and grand children?

Not sure your final questions can be answered "all politics aside." Sounds like you're asking about what we want to see happen.
But here's one thing: making sure that your children grow up politically, socially, and culturally literate and interested, that they have a sense that not only should they do something, but they can accomplish something.
Richard Nixon jaded me when I was growing up. I experienced a sense of powerlessness, and I never got more involved than to vote. That's changing for me, albeit mainly on a discursive level. I talk and write. I would want future generations not to feel this kind of jaded powerlessness.
That's one reason the Obama fever that some here feared is actually a good thing. It was not about him, but about people feeling empowered to get involved in the process and attempt to effect change. -
