Alan Keyes on the bailout:
...And this is happening in the context of an election year where, no matter if they turn in one direction with the Democrats or the other direction with the Republicans, they get no one except one of these socialists. You get the Barack Obama government, bureaucratic-socialist with their government programs and handouts, or you get the John McCain corporate-internationalist socialists with their bailouts dipping into the pockets of the American people. Between the handouts and the bailouts, it should become clear that from the point of view of those who are now competing for and holding onto political power, we are to be subject not to a government of, by and for the people, but to a government that consists of three factors: the political elites, the allegianceless corporate elites, and the bureaucratic elites who are now colluding with one another in order to impose this yoke upon the American people and essentially bring the republic to an end...

You might be surprised to hear me say this - but I had watched Keyes debate during the primary, and he had a lot of things to say that I agreed with.
For me, the only turnoff was his overt religious tendencies (even if it did make his speeches interesting to listen to
) But otherwise, I don't think he's half bad at all.
I loved his opinion on reducing crime, and unclogging legal systems (as well as making percentages of those incarcerated a bit more even handed) was to return the Justice of the Peace role to neighborhoods. An outstanding idea!
Plus, you know, he got into a mosh pit and crowd surfed to a Rage against the Machine song

Go ahead, Ruski, vote for your write-in candidate and encourage all your Republican friends to do the same. I think it's a terrific idea! That's right, you betcha!

I think the republicans really need to rethink who they are. They have duct taped together a coalition of religious conservatives, fiscal conservatives, xenophobes, big business, gun rights as only issue, rural voters, etc. There are a lot of different groups there and then you need some independents to win. It is a difficult compilation of interests to appease.

@ Ruski, point well taken. But I seriously do believe the conservatism of the Republican party has been taken to such an extreme, and the results have been so disastrous, that the idealogy itself has created its own failure - not to mention the fact that it's been hijacked by some seriously twisted individuals and their followers.

I always liked the fact that Alan Keyes's CNBC show was called "Alan Keyes is Making Sense." The punchlines wrote themselves.
I also liked that Alan Keyes was the subject of one of the funniest things I've ever read on the Internet...

But I always know where Alan Keyes stands, I'll give him that. -
keyes is a decidedly mixed bag in my eyes.
anybody who looks at the democrats nowadays and says "socialism" is nuts.
but he's basically right about the corporate socialism mccain and obama are on board with.
if obama gets elected it means nothing other than the pendulum swinging slightly to the left in terms of the administration of resources. he'll be hamstrung by debt, so all the giveaways that keyes is so disgusted by will not take place anyway.
i remember keyes from the 2000 primary debates as being quite obviously the smartest guy on the stage. even if he is a little on the extreme side, i respect him.
