Blah blah blah

    I'll start.

This weather is killing me. Not only is it hot, humid, wet and rainy nasty which is depressing, but if the humidity doesn't go down I will not be able to finish this bike on time The clear has to go on in humidity of 60% or less, or it won't cure. Which is bad.

I'm supposed to be starting the fender today, but I simply cannot do it if it doesn't stop freaking raining and being so humid!

    *shakes fist at mother nature*
    1. Agit8r
for a political bent, you could've blamed climate change
    2. satijournal
I will not be able to finish this bike on time
Will they be red or blue tassels? (for the political statement)

I heard you were getting record rainfalls up there. It rained almost every day we were in Manhattan a few weeks ago, but that was okay. It kept the temperature down.
    3. Anok
      *snicker*

Actually, now that you mention it...our weather pattern here is all messed up. We have been having spring like conditions when it should be summer, summer when it should be fall, very little fall and a shorter winter. When it used to be that we had four very distinct seasons fairly equal in duration and severity.

Sati - it's red and black, for syndicalism, duh! But yeah, the rais is killin' me. And my plants! Everything is moldy and nasty and rotting
  2. satijournal
I have a funny story to share. I joined a tennis league. Yikes!
    1. Anok
Ha! Have you ever played before?
    2. satijournal
I played some back in the 70s but just took it up again this year. I've been playing a few times a week and thought it might be fun to compete in a league.
    3. Anok
Good for you! Tennis was never my sport. Vollyball and lacross however...
    4. Agit8r
the two of you should play... it would be like the "Battle of the Sexes" ]:)>

      oh, never mind.
    5. satijournal
lacross? I never tried that. I was on a softball team a few years ago.
    6. Anok
      Ooh I play softball!

      BC political softball team!!!!
    7. jdhayes225
I used to play water polo but my horses kept drowning.
  3. Agit8r
I am currently in the process of bankrupcy... which Obama and the Democratic super-majority still haven't reformed(despite those campaign promises)
    1. satijournal
Sorry to hear about your bankruptcy. I thought there was some reform but it doesn't go into effect until next year.
    2. Anok
      I'm sorry

I was supposed to go through bankruptcy several years ago (to clear up the ID theft) but I never did, for whatever reason.
    3. Agit8r
Shittybank served me papers back in March, so we had to. Went to a lawyer, he took care of those, and have been dragging feet with the filing, just on the off chance/because the paperwork is a freaking nightmare... anyhoo, thanx
    4. Agit8r
when it's done with, I'll still have 20-some-grand worth of student loans that can't be declared
    5. Anok
Yeah, student loans don't qualify. I hope you work something out that doesn't destroy your credit too badly, and gives you some security.

      {{hugs}}
    6. Agit8r
      thanks,

I'm still hedging my bets on cyber terrorists wiping it out

      *dreams on*
    7. satijournal
I was $46k in debt when I graduated. I thought about moving to another country to get out from under that load. After 12 years, it's finally almost paid off.
    8. Agit8r
      way to go
    9. Agit8r
maybe they'll let me work off some of mine in Work Camp

I'm sure they have a corps for over-educated McJob-working GenXers
  4. jhixon2
My car just got smashed while parked so thats all im worrying about.
    1. Agit8r
      bummer
    2. jhixon2
Yeah that's the way it goes sometimes.
    3. Anok
No note or parking lot camera that you can use?

Sorry dude, that truly sucks. But if you were up here, I would repair it for you!
    4. jhixon2
actually it was parked outside my house. The man that crashed into it was very fishy with his story. He said he had horrible kidney stones and blacked out while driving, but he was well enough to run around all over the place. he also refused to go in an ambulance and just instead went home. I don't know much about kidney stones, but I do know that they hurt like heck and he obviously wasn't hurting too much. I'm just glad nobody was hurt. Truly that is the only thing that matters.
    5. Anok
      Hmmm that is strange indeed.

Well, if you need any tips on how to repair it yourself, feel free to drop me a shout. (If not then on you!)
  5. Agit8r
My wife has psychological issues... likely due to her Christianist upbringing

They require medication which leaves her 'out of it' quite a lot
    1. satijournal
Get her off the drugs and get her to practice mindfulness. Who wants to go through life "out of it."
    2. Anok
Ouch. Has she tried counseling without meds?
    3. Agit8r
the "out of it" was there to some degree as long as she has had depressive symptoms. She is on the pills because of panic attacks. I'm hoping to get her into some sort of therapy eventually once our financial situation is more stable. She went a councellor with her mom a while back, but I think that one was a Christianist as well, so it wasn't going to deal with what needed to be
    4. Anok
      I sent you a shout.
    5. Agit8r
      gracias
    6. anticsrocks
Agit8r, wives usually have issues because they are wives. They don't know they have issues, only us husbands know they have issues, but they think they are okay and we hubbys have the issues...
    7. Agit8r
This is true to some degree. But--without assigning fault on her--these are ISSUES in the clinical sense of the term. It's not like I said to her "you need to get some pills to deal with this stuff" it was like she said "I need to get checked out, cause I can't handle this." I take her word for it.
    8. anticsrocks
Agit8r, I was just trying to inject a bit of levity in the thread. I meant no offense. Just thought I would do a little of the average, everyday, run of the mill husband complaining.
    9. Agit8r
      lol, I figured

but if they don't have issues, why do they want to always talk about them
    10. anticsrocks
Its that touchy-feely aspect that gets men to jump to defensive mode. "We need to talk." = four words husbands never want to hear.
    11. Anok
LOLLOL. My husband knows that if I say "we need to talk" it's usually about something very serious, not having to do with our relationship. HE'S the one always going all mushy "we need to talk" on ME I hate that crap.

We now argue in writing, anyway, so if there's an angry e mail or letter awaiting one of us, that's all we get. It's so much nicer to argue that way
  6. TheRiverWanders
I've been strangely out of sorts lately. Kind of blah, no pun intended.
    1. Anok
      Me too. Ick.
  7. anticsrocks
Kaylee, our new baby (she will be 6 months old on July 4th) came down with a nasty sinus infection. Green goopy stuff was coming out of her left eye and of course from her nose. She is so congested that she has to sleep in her car seat, instead of her crib. Poor thing coughs so much that she only sleeps about a hour or two at a time.

But she is learning to share! Myself, my wife and our 16 year old daughter all got it, too. So we are all coughing and hacking around our house these days. The doc has us all on antibiotics, so hopefully we will be back to normal soon.

    1. anticsrocks
Oops, forgot to shrink the pic, sorry about that. Anyway, this is Kaylee, she has brought a lot of joy into our house!
    2. Anok
I'm sorry to hear that you guys are sick. there is nothing worse than having your sweet baby get a cold or infection - they just don't know what is going on, only that they don't like it. When Punky would get sick I was armed to the teeth with saline drops and a booger sucker. Man that thing was great

      But she is soooooooo adorable!

(*No Anok, you do not want another baby, no baby, no baby.....)
    3. anticsrocks
lol that's what I said a few months ago...but I wouldn't trade her for the world.

We have the saline drops and the bulb, sucky thingy, too. She absolutely hates both of those items. So when it is time for her to use them, my wife calls me.

And thank you, I think she is adorable, too.
    4. Anok
Hahahahaha poor thing, always gotta be the bad guy

Punky has been requesting lately that Daddy and I "build" a sister. Like now.

      Oh boy. o.0
    5. anticsrocks
See? You DO WANT another little one...
    6. Anok
yes and no. I want the baby, but only on the cute no vomit days. And only if she or he sleeps through the night right away

Actually we want to adopt a child - but not until our housing situation is all finalized or at least figured out. We're in limbo right now, which would work against us in adoption.
    7. anticsrocks
I understand. We were fortunate with Kaylee, as early as 1 1/2 months old she began sleeping 6 - 7 hours at a time. Made things much easier on this old man.
    8. Anok
Oh how I wish Punky had been like that! I've never seen a kid who hates sleep more than Punky
  8. clioandme
I have a long list, but after teaching Voltaire's Candide this week, I think I'll shut up about it. That book kinda puts things in perspective.
    1. jeremyjanson
I remember reading that book while my dad was in the emergency room. It cheered me up like nothing else under those circumstances.
    2. Anok
Isn't school out yet?! Man they is working you to the bone huh?

Hey Jeremy, I just finally noticed that your handle is Jeremyjanson, and not Jeremyjason as I had though for all these months.

      D'oh!
    3. clioandme
Being merely an adjunct who gets paid by the course, I really have to work year round. Summer is good, because I pick up extra courses that regular faculty don't want to teach, because they're busy moving their research forward.

Ooh, but then that brings up a few sore points too. But really I'm happy for the overabundance of work for two months. I never know what the next season will bring. Meanwhile, the search for something more permanent continues and the bills pile up, but I don't need to complain about the job market, do I? It affects us all.)
    4. Anok
Ah, yes I see. There are both pro's and con's to that schedule. Right now is the busy season for us, too - but like you said, you never know what will happen next. I haven't heard from one of my upcoming jobs, so I'm wondering if he's backing out on me Meh.

At least we're still not paying any rent. Yay for us!
    5. clioandme
Having a roof over one's head is a good thing.
    6. Anok
      Yes, yes it is!

But the foreclosure proceedings are starting August 1st. We are now waiting to see what will happen. The lender has decided to try and modify (at least accepting the paperwork) but will start foreclosure regardless. In the meantime, the taxes will be due soon, and it looks like no one is going to pay them, which means the city will take the property from both the owner and the lender, unless someone pays up. From what I'm hearing, lenders who are faced with this problem are simply walking away from the properties, as they do not want to have to pay back taxes plus interest, only to get a house that's upside down anyway.

If that's the case (and that's a big if) we might be able to sneak in the back door and buy the property for the taxes. W00t! That would honestly be our bestest option at the moment. But now it's just a waiting game.
  9. Theresa111
I am hoping for the best outcome for us all. Do not feel all alone out there. We are all going through some rough times. We will make it. Believe it and you can achieve it.
    1. Anok
I'd feel much better about everything if you could send me one of your delicious desert creations. Preferably something with a lot of dark chocolate.
  10. satijournal
I have a sun tan for the first time in about 20 years.
    1. Anok
How did that happen? Were you on vacation or did the sun just finally peek out from behind the clouds after 20 years?

(That's what it feels like here, anyway!)
    2. satijournal
Tennis. I've been a bit sedentary for a while.
    3. Anok
Ah yes, good old sports will do that to you!
    4. satijournal
Yeah! I've lost a few pounds and am starting to build up my endurance. It feels good to get in shape. This Friday will be my first league match.
    5. Anok
      Yay! *cheers for Sati*
    6. satijournal
If I'd only started earlier I could have made it to Wimbledon. Damn!
  11. clioandme
Two high points of the day: A quart of blueberries in my farm share, and a bunch of fireflies at dusk. Great season.
    1. Anok
Mmmmm. I've already gone through several strawberry harvests (the BEST ones I've ever eaten!) and I am no eagerly awaiting my raspberries and blackberries to arrive.

My potato plants have gone berserk, and my cukes look good, as do my squash's and carrots - but my pepper plants are not too fond of all this rain I think.

      And I already have tomatoes!
    2. clioandme
      Oh to have a garden.

I wonder how many other people here besides you have one.
    3. Anok
I know TT has a container garden. Not sure about anyone on the political board, though. I love, love, love it. There is nothing like fresh fruit and vegetables straight from the garden you cultivated.

Depending on where we end up, I plan to add some fruit trees to the mix - and next year I will actually get the watermelons and pumpkins planted, too I ran out of room this time. (Corn and potatoes take up a lot of room!)
    4. Agit8r
we sorta do... it isn't very fruitfull
    5. satijournal
My wife has a garden. It's nice to have fresh veggies.
    6. Agit8r
we've had some weird weather... yeah, I'm gonna blame it on that
  12. voodooKobra
I'm now a Dragoon-ranked fighter in my LARP group. The ranks go like this:

    S. Master of Twilight. Nobody is here yet.
    A. Vastro. Essentially, the best fighters in the group. Experts in almost any weapon and educators of the lower ranks. Requires at least one year of distinguished membership in the group before you can even go for it. This rank allegedly means "Lord of Mercy," but I've yet to see the etymology.
A-. Guardian of Twilight. Proficient in many weapon types, expert in at least one. Dedication and combat ability are weighed almost equally in determining whether or not one qualifies for this rank.
B+. Guardian. Very proficient with at least two weapon types. With only one exception to date, usually requires 6 months membership.
    B. Dragoon. Very proficient with at least one weapon.
B-. Raptor. Proficient with at least one weapon.
    C. Wolf. Demonstrates simple strategy, aggression, and technique.
    D. Raven. You swing your sword a little, but not effectively.
    E. Scarab. You hold your sword. That's pretty much it.

I'm going to improve my swordsmanship to expert level (I'm only a few months away, I think) and then focus on my polearm (halberd, glaive, naginata) technique. I should be a Guardian within two months.

Also, there's going to be a championship tournament this Sunday.
    1. Anok
Good for you! Will you be competing? *cheers for Voodoo*
    2. voodooKobra
      Thanks.

And yeah, of course I'm competing. It's an opportunity to hold a fancy title AND have a say in what games the group plays. The way they're doing it right now is a "Please everyone simultaneously" approach that is full of compromise and monotony. I'm going to have three distinct battlegame types: Melee-favored, Archer-favored, and Magic-favored.

Melee-favored battles will get rid of that silly rule that arrows automatically break weapons. There will be no abilities or character classes. This is to force our archers to not depend on dumb rules.

Archer-favored battles are non-class, non-ability battles where the "arrows break weapons" rule is still in effect. This means that you're basically worthless if your weapon breaks. Furthermore, you may only carry one set of weapons (one sword, one set of two swords, one staff, one polearm, OR one dagger) on you (not counting projectiles). If your weapon is broken, return to the respawn point for 100 seconds and it will regenerate. This is to teach the melee fighters to dodge arrows.

Magic-favored battles are class and ability battles with a twist: Everyone has to play a magic class. If you're a level 5 wizard, you can play as a level 5 wizard. If you're a level 5 barbarian, you're a level 1 wizard, healer, druid, or bard for the game. This will teach people how magic works and force them to learn the rules of the game.

(Magic is a bit dorky, but a lot of teams rely heavily on it and there are a lot of rules associated with it. The magic-favored games should generate some interest in playing a magic class in people who just think "This is nerdy" rather than "This is useful." Learning what everything does will also make games flow smoother.)

I figure with 3 such battle archetypes should teach our players how to fight and win a game where the class archetypes (melee, ranged, magic) have a massive advantage over them. This should make the team stronger.
    3. Anok
Wow - that's a lot to go through! Good luck I;m glad you have been really getting involved in that stuff, seems lik eyou really enjoy it - which is awesome : )
  13. Anok
So, yeah - the counties all around us are flooded out - total damage from all the rain and whatnot but us? We live a stone's throw from a body of water in every direction, and we don't have so much as a puddle.

I kid you not, we live in some freaky little pocket where either nothing happens when all hell is breaking loose elsewhere, or we are getting hammered when everywhere else is experiencing mild, happy weather
    1. Agit8r
you use the weather as an excuse to get hammered? o_0
    2. satijournal
Maybe she uses getting hammered as an excuse to throw stones into a body of water.
    3. Anok
It's practice - it simulates getting sprayed with mace or chemicals, and still being able to throw bricks and hit my target. See? I can't see straight, I'm drooling on myself, and yet, I can still toss a rock at my target
    4. voodooKobra
Now all you need is a large stock of Molotov cocktails and you're ready for the anarchist revolution.
    5. Anok
shhhhhh.....the revolution will not be televised because it's a surprise!
