ST. PAUL, Minn. – A unanimous Minnesota Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that Democrat Al Franken should be certified the winner of the state's long-running Senate race, paving the way for the former Saturday Night Live comedian to be seated after an almost eight-month fight.

He's good enough, he's smart enough, and doggone it, people like him... at least according to his "daily affirmations"

OK, that's like the third comment from you that made me think you are saying it with my father's voice. Quit freakin' me out!

It's from franken's Stuart Smalley "Daily Affirmations" skit on SNL. Can't find it on youtube, or I'd drop the link

My dad's been saying that longer than I can reasonably remember That and "It's got a good beat and you can dance to it. I give it an 8".

I remember the Daily Affirmation sketch from the early 90's, tho' it may be even older

Surprising but true, Coleman has finally conceded this race. I figured he'd take it to the Supreme Court and then maybe the Security Council and then maybe God or something. I guess a 5-0 decision finally convinced him, or at least his backers.

Founding father James Madison was a comedy writer back in college...

      Best tweet on the subject:

"I've loved Franken since the early SNL days, but he can't possibly be funnier than the Republican leadership..."

I think that "fillibuster proof" is failing to take into account the more conservative democrats
    1. clioandme
Depending on the legislation, definitely, but now the party could presumably negotiate within the party, without having to deal with so many wingnuts.

Course, the Democrats also have two very sick senators, Byrd and Kennedy, who could be hard to get to the floor. On the other hand, all I've ever seen the Republicans do is threaten a filibuster, not actually carry one out. Might be refreshing to see them try. Democrats should call their bluff.
    3. satijournal
True. Just the threat of a filibuster have been enough to cause the Democrats to cave. Hopefully, those days are behind them now. Onward to the health care public option!

No wonder we have comedians for Senators, we already have a joke for president.

Dem's now hold majority in the house, Fillibuster proof senate, and the presidency.

And still, i'm sure everything that goes wrong will be the Republicans fault...
