from my stand point she skirted alot of the questions and did not answer alot of the questions with a 'clear answer'. so far..

palin just invented a new word tonight : nucular
    1. Friday13
      That was a nucular debate!

(just kidding, didn't bother watching ... didn't know it was today!)
    2. drjay1966
Well, she didn't invent it--it's been used by morons who shouldn't be anywhere near the white house for the past eight years.
  4. ttiger
    The Terrorist Have Enurgee!!!!!!!

drill baby drill is on that funny shirt out there then she said the same thing. i would never have said that if i was naked on a tee shirt
  9. rightcommentary
Personally - I liked the little wink at the beginning when Palin was talking about tax breaks.

Wooo! Made my Republican heart go a pitter-patter!
    1. ttiger
She was way out of her depth and unable to answer the vast majority of questions. I'm also a little lost as to how that created no further damage? I didn't have a high opinion of the woman to start but went into this with an open mind...my view of her could now not get any lower and I'd be amazed if I was even close to alone on that.

All the debate proved was that she should of stayed where she was ie: in local politics of a smallish population.
  10. ElectricMermaid
Well, she's definitely becoming a "real" political player: she's already learning the fine art of avoiding the actual questions.
  11. firerobin
More of the same ... and TONS of question dodging. She did better than I expected, but that's not saying much.
    1. ttiger
this VP race is so much more important than any in history. If Obama is elected, I predict an "assassination" and then we will have Badin. IF McCain is elected and dies cuz he is old... then we get Palin. the question is who do you want?
    2. drjay1966
just out of curiosity, ttiger, why do you put "assassination" in quotes. Do you think there will be a fake one?
    3. csiunatc
Lets see now, do you want an old fart who can't make up his mind.

one second Obama is a "dangerous choice" for president. Who Biden votes against more than not when it comes to security policy. Then Biden would "be honored to run with McCain" the next he is all for how great Obama is and how right he gets everything?

Or do we want the Most popular Governor in the United states, someone who has already proven that she runs her political office with the people in first place.

I don't know. Someone who changes position every 8 minutes just doesn't seem stable enough for me to want him in the Whitehouse.

Not to mention that he couldn't use his considerable experience to hold his own against the new kid on the block.
  12. csiunatc
I'd say she did more than well..

Of course that depends on your point of view. To me, a relative newcomer to the big scene slapping a Veteran Senator around like she did constitutes doing more than well..
  13. drjay1966
Based on the extremely low expectations everyone had for her (including conservatives who pretend otherwise) after she humiliated herself with Katie Couric, she did okay. In other words, she won't be dropping out of the race, which would have been likely had she been nearly as bad as in the Couric interviews.

Based on a more level standard, there's no question that she did very poorly. Biden appeared to be an intelligent adult speaking to intelligent adults. Palin appeared to be that nice lady next door speaking to children and idiots.
  14. rainatee
After having gone through the bootcamp, she had better done a good job.
  15. jadedconformist
As a politician (take that as you will)- she did well. I think she's learning the ropes. Then again, she did set the bar pretty low for my expectations.

If you haven't already, check out this video of Palin's life as a Disney movie. I LOL'ed:

Edit: I hate that my name is in the word 'maverick'
  16. pinklatex
She didn't answer alot of the questions given.
  17. wehireu
She did better than expected. 90 Second soundbites don't say much though.
  18. voodooKobra
Hey guys, I accidentally the whole economy; is this bad?
  19. TOMDDiary
I think that she was "schooled" well by her handlers. That does not change the fact that she is a "air head."

Since expectations were so low there was no where else to go but up. With that said if you score her higher than a C- for her performance you're being too generous. As much as she spoke about straight talk I didn't hear anything straight from her unless she was talking about what she's done in Alaska. Quite frankly I didn't want to hear her resume I wanted to hear what she knows about the nation, sadly that appears to be little to nothing. I personally like how she was asked a very direct question about bankrupt Americans and she answered about energy & taxes which makes me think either she has an issue with comprehension or she just doesn't know enough to answer the question. Both are troubling.

I do like that she's a new comer who isn't yet part of the Washington Machine and that's pretty much where it ends.

Also did anyone catch when she called Joe Biden, Obiden?

I thought Governor Palin was outstanding after watching this portion of her performance.

    Politics board anyone? www.blogcatalog.com/politics/discuss

CNN and CBS polls give it to Biden, though clearly Palin exceeded the public's low expectations: www.blogcatalog.com/politics/discuss/entry/early-polling-biden-takes-debate
  23. Shiley
It was better than I expected but her comments made me feel like going to school and chewing bubble gum. I don't know what it is about this election but on the republican side I feel like one is talking down to me and is grandfatherly and the other wants to be my mommy and it's driving me up a wall.
  24. DineometerDeb
I thought she sounded sarcastic, which usually I like in a person, but combined with her gratingly annoying voice and smirk, made me cringe.

I think all this debate shows is how well she is able to do on an essay test, with notes allowed.
  25. farangrakthai
Whatever I think about the Republicans and the Democrats, she can not be President of the US. This is not a joking matter anymore.
Is anybody in the US believing she can be President? And Mac Cain is 72, not such a remote possibility.
Worrisome, really, for Europeans like me...
  26. gloriaboone
Great comments (p.s.didn't know there was a political page) I thought Palin sounded like a Mom-School Student who has returned to college and is tring to do well. But her lack of depth about American politics, Washington, DC, the issues and their nuances, couldn't be covered up with hokey language and winks.
    1. Anok
The winking drove me batty - it reminds me of a bad waiter. Or a creepy man trying to get a date. Or a used car sales man.

I mean, that's what winking brings to mind when dealing with business and serious topics. *shudder*
  27. flyboy86326
I think Palin made it much easier for an Obama win. Thank you Sarah!
  28. MidwestMom
I thought Sarah Palin did what she does best -- appeal to the conservatives. Considering that many of them were flinching from the McCain ticket, maybe that was what she needed to do.

I thought Biden, however, was the star of the show. He was smart and capable and above all, had a much broader knowledge base than Palin. I think Biden was capable of swaying undecided voters. Palin was not.
  29. gloriaboone
Midwest Mom: I agree with you...Biden did a great job; and never once inferred anything about gender. Great job, Joe.
  30. pedestrianobserver
I think Sarah Palin did a great job......... except she is in a wrong venue. She would have been formidable and unbeatable if she was running for vice-president of her kids hockey booster club.
  31. DrowseyMonkey
Her unprofessional use of the English language is unnerving, you "betcha."

She can't say "you" instead of "ya" or "yes" instead of "yeah"

And why does she end sentences with the word "also" ??

The wink...that has to stop. So unprofessional. Embarrassing to be honest.
    1. timethief
In Canada we are cringing when we hear her speak.
  32. tixrus
I was surprised how smooth Palin's answers were after the Katie Couric interviews but they didn't relate directly to the questions. It was like, OK the word education was in that question I'll give my polished 90 second education sound bite. Biden, wanted to give details, but refrained so his windbag reputation would be shot down.

I had a little fun hacking some Palin audio clips into a "Nucular Sarah Palin answers your question oracle" on my geek blog. Check it out if ya like. Wink Wink. Ya don't even have to input the question because Sarah Palin is gonna say what Sarah Palin is gonna say it don't matter whats yer question... ya betcha, also.
    1. Anok
Oh that was great Thanks for sharing the answer generator (and yeah, your uncanny written impression is what drove me to check it out).
    2. gloriaboone
      Tixrus

How do i get to your blog; I'd like to see your Sarah stuff?
