Do you think Obama was a fair winner of the Nobel Prize of this year?
No
What has he really done for peace?
Not much, other than offering to talk with no preconditions to our enemies.
What should he do or should have done for peace? Or to solve the issues of Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine/Israel and others?
I believe in peace through strength. Only when the really bad guys in the world respect and even fear the United States, can peace be achieved. The Soviet Union feared and respected us, we had peace. If we are to achieve peace now, then the states that sponsor terror must also fear and respect us. They do not, so we will not have peace. Already there are more terror plots against the United States since Obama took office. Thankfully, our FBI and CIA have been successful in thwarting them.
Some will agree with me, some will disagree. You asked for my opinions, and I gave them. -
No Obama did not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize. Yes He did change the perception of America but so far, that is all. But, this was a good thing for America. If we are going to mad at anyone for cheapening the value of the Nobel Peace Prize, let it be the Nobel Prize Committee.

No
I think Obama nailed it with his statement that he viewed the decision less as a recognition of his own accomplishments and more as "a call to action."
Anything is a giant step towards peace after the previous administration. 'Peace thru strength' has not gotten us anywhere in regards to the Middle East and a change in strategy is wise.

I mostly agree with you, guys.
Obama is no doubt, bether than Bush. But he is not doing much more than speaches. And he is sending more trops to Afeganistan...that´s not very pacific.
If he accepts that he didn't deserve the nobel prize, like jeremyjanson says, so he was modest enough and he got my respect. It would be offensive to return it.
I believe he still have a lot to show us, if he´s brave enough to realy change the things like he promissed. And he can´t do all in just one year, but I have some reservations.
Time will tell us his real intentions.
Thanks for your opinions.-
Well, he hasn't accepted it yet, so there is no returning it. He could opt to not accept it, though. As for him not doing that because it might be offensive, when he took office he returned a bust of Winston Churchill to Great Britain without worrying that doing so was offensive, VERY offensive to the Brits. So I doubt that "offensiveness" very much bothers Obama.
In many ways, Obama's inexperience on the world stage shows itself again and again.
As for Peace through strength not getting us anywhere, when is the last time anyone got anywhere with a bully by backing down and appeasing? No, Iran and North Korea are laughing at us because of Obama.
He thinks his charm can win everyone over. Point in fact, look at his last minute effort to get the Olympics for Chicago. Again, his inexperience shows through. When Atlanta got the Olympics, Ambassador Andy Young worked for months to make the case for Atlanta to each and every member of the Olympic Committee. It was an organized, planned, mature effort. And rushing in at the last minute, smiling, teleprompters and great oratory are not a substitute for true hard work and statesmanship. That he didn't know the difference shows his immaturity on the world stage. -
*rolls eyes*
The olympics went to Brazil because it's a good choice, not because the Obama administration screwed anything up. Comparing an olympic bid with Middle East policy is ridiculous anyways.
"...when is the last time anyone got anywhere with a bully by backing down and appeasing?"
That works both ways. -
If you read my comments, you will notice that I never said WHY Brazil got them, I said that Obama failed to get the bid because he did not take it seriously, he did not plan ahead. It was a last minute, spur of the moment decision and it shows his immaturity as President.
I did not compare an Olympic bid with Foreign policy, I compared Obama's inadequacy on Foreign policy with his inadequacy in regards to the Olympics. You know, one should really read and, if possible understand a post before rashly commenting on it.
As far as appeasement working both ways, are you implying that the United States is a bully?
-
Why are you so sad for the Olimpics being this year, for the first time in history, in an South American country? USA had the Olimpics a lot of times in their history!
I´m happy for Brazil. Even being a little woried about criminality.
Chicago isnt properly a safe city, but Brazil have 20 000 homicides per year, wich is a very hight rate.
They have a chance to show to the world what they can do. Like Portugal had when we got the Euro 2004 here and it was a great sucess! (in one of the most poorest countries of Europe).
But your partiotism a little behind and enjoy the games
-
@spaceaye...you misunderstand my comments. I am not upset that the Olympics did not go to Chicago. In fact, I am happy for Brazil. That was not my point. I was making the point that Obama does not plan ahead. He governs like a community organizer, that is to say by the seat of his pants. He does things last minute and without thinking them through.
For Brazil, this is a great opportunity. I do not begrudge them anything and hope that they have a successful hosting of the Olympics.

Some believe he got it to sway him to go to and sign the Copenhagen Climate Treaty. Not sure that would be true. I don't believe he has done anything yet to deserve it. But that's how things go.
-
Sway him? They wrecked his political reputation as much as anyone alive. He only accepted that award to avoid the insult of giving it back. I'm no Obama fan as all of you know, I disagree with almost everything the man stands for, but let's not accuse him of sentiments and actions that are not his. He is still our President.
