How about just linking directly to the original post?? Seems like you're providing a link to a link just to get traffic.

Regarding your opinion... Beck hasn't lost his right to free speech. He's lost sponsors over his narrow-minded comments and bizarre behavior... and rightly so. Beck along with Limbaugh is fanning the flames of hatred by spewing ridiculous amounts of misinformation regarding the president and his policies.

I agree. That was rather irritating to try and get to the article.
    2. caspergirl35
It was not meant to be difficult ...for some reason that is how it showed up...this is my article and it just happens to be posted on many website. But my blogspot is working correctly now so you don't have to go through the links.
  2. clioandme
All I see on the site are ads, even after scrolling down a page.

As far as Beck goes, apparently hate-mongering is bad for business. Major corporations such as Walmart are dropping him. That has nothing to do with freedom of speech. He can talk all day long. But that doesn't mean that sponsors owe him their support. I hope more corporations see the light.
  3. csiunatc
    Whoa! Nice spampage there Justa..
  4. Agit8r
    That's the marketplace for ya...

If you express opinions that make you less marketable, then advertisers will respond accordingly.
  5. Anok
Beck can still speak till he's blue in the face. The fact that no one wants t hear it much less pay him for his opinions doesn't mean he's lost any rights
    1. csiunatc
      Hmm,

So you equate corporate sponsorship with what people want to hear.

Interesting, how much corporate sponsorship do Anarchists have?
    2. jhixon2
People do want to hear him. He is the third highest rated talk show host.
    3. clioandme
Sure, there are plenty of people who enjoy his lies and hatred. But companies that depend on a broader base, companies like Walmart, can't afford to support such trash. You see, even if he were the highest rated, he would still not command the respect and support of a majority of American consumers.
    4. jhixon2
@ markstoneman "Sure, there are plenty of people who enjoy his lies and hatred."

What lies and what hatred? Liberals cannot compete the honest and fair way so they try to get their competition off the air by slandering them. Glenn Beck said the President was racist. I don't see any problem with that. Barack Obama seems no different to me than David Paterson and Henry Louis Gates. (all of which who blame things on race and basically label white people as a bunch of racists) It is all about preventing freedom of speech and silencing the opposition.
    5. Anok
At what point did I say that corporate sponsorship = what people want to hear? I said people don't want to hear him - much less pay to hear his opinions. That includes regular folks who may be tuning in via satellite radio, the company he works for, the books he sells, or just people listening to the plain old radio.

@Jhixon Does Beck have a strong conservative following? Absolutely. Does that following equal the majority of Americans? Absolutely not.

Besides, I'm pretty sure Limbaugh actually has a larger following than Beck on the radio (He may even come in after Savage), and O'Reilly has a larger following in general.

      www.nytimes.com/2009/08/30/books/bestseller/bestpapernonfiction.html?ref=be...

And in 1st position of the NY Times Best seller list.

      1. 1 GLENN BECK’S ‘COMMON SENSE’, by Glenn Beck. (Mercury Radio Arts/Threshold Editions, $11.99.) Thomas Paine-inspired thoughts on government. (†)

And he has another at no 32.
32 AN INCONVENIENT BOOK, by Glenn Beck (Threshold Editions)

Yeah, you're right, people don't want to hear.

Unless of course you actually hang around people that READ, then you might get another answer...
    7. Anok
Yeah, he just beat out two books about Julia Childs. And barely, at that. *rolls eyes*

Like I said - a short upswing in sales or ratings does not a reflection of the majority make. The conservatives that support people like Beck et al are not in the majority whatsoever. It's just a fact that will have to be accepted.
    8. Anok
Reality has a liberal bias. Facts are fickle things - and like I said, just because the conservative base - which is a minority in the country - all jumped up and bought his book doesn't actually mean that Beck's opinions are what people want to hear or believe.

      Thankfully.
    9. anticsrocks
      "Reality has a liberal bias."??

Since when? Reality has no bias.
    10. csiunatc
      From your link

"When you've got CRAZY people like these on the airways, it's no surprise why the ignorant and misinformed sometimes resort to violence."

So what radio / tv personality would you blame for the Violent protesters at the RNC, or the SEIU crowd that beat up the guy handing out "don't tread on me" flags?
    11. clioandme
As you well know, I was referring to the three videos linked there, not RR's specific commentary. Here's another relevant piece: www.salon.com/opinion/greenwald/2009/02/22/militias/
    12. Agit8r
I find it hillarious that a right winger based a book on Thomas Paine. Thomas paine was almost an anarchist... and the left wing sort. Read "The Rights of Man, part the Second" some time and note his views on progressive taxation of both income and estates. lol
    13. anticsrocks
I was never much of a fan of Beck, and less now that he continues to use Mark Levin's book, Liberty and Tyranny without citing source. If you can't show your source, I mean what does that say about someone who uses others' hard work for their own?
    14. Agit8r
maybe there is a feud between them. There sure was between Burke and Paine...
    15. anticsrocks
Might be. The way I see it is, Mark Levin has a bigger fan base on his radio program and of course his book, Liberty and Tyranny has sold just at one million copies, so Beck is goading him into calling him out. This is good for Beck's ratings and it elevates Beck up to the level of Mark Levin. So far Mark Levin has all but named Beck, but loyal Levin listeners know who he is referring to.
    16. Anok
      "Reality has a liberal bias."??

Since when? Reality has no bias.

I just wanted to say that

Erik, in an effort to decrease the hostility on the board as per discussions with admin regarding personal attacks, I've reported your above comment.
    17. Agit8r
au contraire, it is liberalism that has a reality bias

I'm very confused--I must have missed something in this story. Can you point me to the part where a governmental entity intervened?
    1. Agit8r
there isn't. Wal-Mart is appearently violating Glenn Beck's civil rights... or something...
    2. csiunatc
      His rights aren't being violated.

But groups like ACORN have been and still are very successful at threathening companies that don't do whatt hey want with their "Not PC" stuff that companies simply find it less of a chore to pull advertising than to fight it.

Ask Obama, he did it to force banks that weren't required to participate in bad loan programs to do so.

It's not a matter of rights, its a matter of lefties not being able to handle true opposition on facts, so they do what they can to silence it through other means.
    3. Agit8r
i think the answer is more simplistic than that. A lot of minorities shop at Wal Mart, but they may prefer to shop at K-Mart if Wal Mart is viewed as condoning bigotry.

Glenn Beck is NOT a journalist. He's NOT an investigative reporter. He's an ENTERTAINER with extremest views who's upset we didn't elect another neoconservative, so he stirs the pot via race baiting and sensationalized distortions. He dangerous because the gullible and ignorant think he's a reliable source for actual news. Companies are smart to distance themselves from his brand of dishonest and divisive rhetoric.
    6. csiunatc
Well well, here's one of their proponents now.
    7. RuinousRight
Thanks CSI... I had not seen that one. I'll be sure to forward it to friends.

I don't see anything positive or useful coming from that former alcoholic rodeo clown.

"But groups like ACORN have been and still are very successful at threathening companies that don't do whatt hey want with their "Not PC" stuff that companies simply find it less of a chore to pull advertising than to fight it."

And the same is true of conservative groups.
    9. Agit8r
oh, come on. You gotta throw the Southern Baptist Convention under the bus
    10. Agit8r
In all seriousness though, the fact that the entire commercial media is controlled by jingoist interests is of far greater concern

Ah, you don't see a difference here?

These examples are direct action against another organization. Like the NRA, they are asking their MEMBERS to do something.

They aren't threatening Conoco's suppliers or customers. Trying to ensure that they can't continue to exist through third party interventions.

      Just a tad different there.

To be fair, that would mean that Acorn. Color for Crap and the rest would tell people not to watch FOX.

i fail to see any real difference. Please explain how it matters?
    21. Agit8r
      oh now i get it!
    22. csiunatc
Yes thank you Madame X, exactly like that.

Turns out Beck enjoys the freedoms of free speech himself but does not believe other people should have it. At least not if he is the target of his own kind of medicine. He has just taken a case to the domain name dispute centre at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva.

The domain name holder targeted by Beck has, through their lawyer, issued the most remarkable legal document polybore has ever seen stating:

"only an abject imbecile could believe that the domain name would have any connection to the Complainant."

    1. Agit8r
I don't approve of this sort of parody.

Next people will become so jaded that they will refuse to believe that between 2001 and 2009 we had drunk drivers serving as our President and Vice President!
    2. xmarks
Maybe he is prepping to a move to the comedy chanel.

Seems more appropriate place for his show.
    3. polybore
Is he funny though. Is there a TV channel dedicated to crap TV, called maybe CrapTV, providing crap TV to the world 24/7.
    4. clioandme
That would be his current network.
    5. anticsrocks
CrapTV - otherwise known as MTV
    6. xmarks
Here's a new concept in television - a channel that plays music all the time. They could have videos and concerts and news about the same. It would be great. Just what could they call it?????
  10. FaithfulinPrayer
Beck doesn't claim to be a journalist. Anyone who just watches him or Fox or just CNN or just MSNBC or just network news is being narrow-minded. You should read and watch information expressing both sides of the issues.

It is just plain stupid on both sides (left and right), because a lot of people put down the views of others saying they are dumb, or ignorant, or blind, or socialists, or right-wing extremist, or unpatriotic, or racists.

Freedom of speech is freedom of speech. We can all agree to disagree. I have watched Glenn Beck on occassion as well as others on Fox, I have watched Larry King, Rachel Maddow, Chris Mathews, and others. I even get the Organizing for America emails and those from Obama. I want to know what everybody has to say. I want to check out the facts.
    1. clioandme
Irony alert on your second paragraph: Doesn't what you write amount to saying it is stupid to call people stupid?
  11. FaithfulinPrayer
yeah, how stupid is that. lol
  12. clioandme
A provocative article: "Why Rupert Murdoch Will Fire Glenn Beck":
    www.huffingtonpost.com/ben-cohen/why-rupert-murdoch-will-f_b_309373.html

"In financial terms, Beck could most aptly be compared to a derivative; indecipherable and immensely profitable in the short term, but ultimately a ticking time bomb and fast track to disaster."

    Wishful thinking?
    1. polybore
Wishful thinking. James, not Rupert, Murdoch is now at the helm of News International. He is most likely to put down advertisers not wanting to be associated with the show to poor audience targeting by the ad department.

As these ads have now been moved to other slots on the Fox schedule it is better for Fox and the advertisers. No doubt the ads that are around Beck's show are more carefully targeted.

It is important to note that James Murdoch is now the head of News International. He is a staunch defender of what he describes as "independent journalisim" and is seen as the mover behind the UK The Sun newspaper switching from Labour to Conservative.
    2. clioandme
Following that line of thought, here's an interesting piece in the Guardian regarding James Murdoch, FoxNews, and Beck: www.guardian.co.uk/culture/2009/sep/05/charlie-brooker-on-james-murdoch

      One line I like:

"The trouble is, once you've gasped or chuckled over the YouTube clips of his most demented excesses, he's actually incredibly boring: a fat clown with one protracted trick."

I'd quote more, but the comment would get deleted for bad language.
