Nah, I don't think so. They're a community outreach program with political tendencies who've had some problems.

Other than that, they're not influencing DC if that's what anyone is implying

Are you kidding me? They tried to steal the election for Obama! They were engaged in the biggest voting fraud scheme ever perpetrated on our election system! Who else would have domestic terrorist William Ayers on their board of directors!??

... erm, sorry... I was watching Fox news again...

I never thought I would agree with you, oh my God... I feel sick....
    2. Anok
I feel sick after watching Fox news, too.

what I don't get is what was their effect on any elections? if they made up fictitious voters to supply quotas, were these fictitious people voting? Were people voting in their place? if there is an issue, why don't we hear these specifics?

ACORN was scammed by their workers who were getting paid by the number of voters they registered. Republicans lied about it and acted like ACORN was trying to perpetrate voter fraud.
    2. Agit8r
So Republicans are trying to blame the victim... like a rapist's defense attorney... interesting 0_o
    3. satijournal
No, they were just trying to justify their own cheating by saying "see, they do it too!" It's like people who lie all the time and then call everybody else a liar.
    4. Agit8r
what did they cheat with... unless you call flying the President all over the country on Air Force One to campaign for his party's candidates, cheating

satijournal, why do you keep insisting on making statements you do not back up? Please offer SOME type of corroboration of your claim that the Republicans cheated in the last election. ACORN is under investigation concerning the last election and the only reason the libs aren't crying foul is that it is being investigated on Obama's watch. If McCain would have won and ACORN was under federal investigation, the far left would be shouting to the rooftops that it was a Republican attack.

And btw, Cooper I tend to agree with your post. The Republican "machine" isn't working. But look to our history in the last 30 years and you will see that it has happened before. When the Republicans do make their comeback I truly hope that it is under mainstream conservative rule and not by elements of the far right. I cannot stand extremists no matter their leanings.

That's wrong. They were investigated by the FBI (due to pressure by the McCain campaign), but it had nothing to do with voter fraud as McCain claimed. It was voter REGISTRATION fraud and the "fraud" was perpetrated by the workers on ACORN.

      This article is misleading:

I didn't even bother to look at the other ones since they're not reputable sites.

Voter fraud, voter registration fraud.........splitting hairs there. I mean when in any given county/precinct/etc... when there are more voters registered than there are people in residence you have fraud. Plain and simple. ACORN may have "been a victim" of their paid volunteers but it seems strange that the only, or at the very least the vast majority of voter registration inconsistencies are on the Democratic side.

And as far as the other articles I sited not being reputable, this is strange coming from someone who evidently reads the dailykos.... I only did a google on ACORN and found those articles right away.

Here you go, how 'bout these?

      newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2008/10/14/will-media-report-acorn-vote...

      blog.cleveland.com/metro/2008/08/cuyahoga_board_probes_voter_re.html

And this telling piece of news....

"In November 2006, 20,000 to 35,000 questionable voter registration forms were turned in by ACORN officials in Missouri. Most all of these were from St. Louis and Kansas City areas, where ACORN purportedly sought to help empower the “disenfranchised” minorities living there. But the ACORN workers weren’t just told to register new voters. The workers admitted on camera that they were coached to tell registrants to vote for Democrat Claire McCaskill."

I know it is old, but it points to the level of corruption in ACORN. Here is the citing..

pajamasmedia.com? The site that hired "Joe the plumber" to be a reporter? Give me a break!

I might read some left wing blogs but I don't site them as my source for facts.
    9. anticsrocks
So you are denying that you used the dailykos to cite in your post on "Republicans to brand Democrats as socialists"?? That's not a left wing blog.......nooooo.

      Caught ya again, sati
    10. satijournal
That's just a story in the news -- not a source for facts. Are you saying they're not trying to re-brand Democrats as socialists?
    11. anticsrocks
So if YOU cite something, it's "just a story in the news" and if I cite something it is always extremist? Yeah, that's fair and honest on your part.

And no, I am not saying they are or aren't I am saying that until more is known we can't be sure. If the Repubs do this, I think it is wrong and a waste of time. I believe on going on the offensive, but name calling is stupid and wrong. That is why I don't partake in doing that on my blogs or posts.
    12. satijournal
So are you saying republicans are not trying to re-brand democrats as socialists? What's your point?
    13. anticsrocks
Read my post for my point...

"...I am not saying they are or aren't I am saying that until more is known we can't be sure..."

A political machine is the force which drives a party or a candidate. In this country both Democrats and Republicans have a "machine" behind them, from the local level on upwards. Sadly this is why the average man will never be president.

The machine is usually people of influence and of money, and the future leaders are often preordained by the people of influence - who are also pre-ordained.

The Republican machine is broken. The Democratic machine is working, but not as well as it could...it's all a metaphor really, one breaks down the other takes over....meaningless in the real world most of us live in. a game of sorts.

That definition does not fit ACORN, if anything ACORN is a tool the machine uses.
  5. AmmoBob
    A political machine? No...

A corrupt community outreach group with a far left leaning political agenda? Yes, without a doubt...
  6. Agit8r
They need to stop beating up voters too... lol
