Since when do we advocate working out our problems over alcohol? Obama puts his foot in his mouth and then swishes it clean with beer?

What is that telling the younger generation? Well if you screw up you can just have a drink with each other and all will be well.

Methinks you missed the point of that beer.

Also, making a taboo out of beer doesn't help our youth, who don't learn to treat alcohol responsibly that way, but instead binge drink themselves into unconsciousness.

He chose beer because he was all out of Twix.

I don't think I missed the point of the "meeting".

Let's face it..this could have been done over a cola or over flavored water. My point is...if you already have a problem and you are trying to solve a major issue, then why use another "major problem" (drinking) to solve it?

(President Barack Obama’s highly anticipated “beer summit” with Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. and Cambridge police Sgt. Jim Crowley came together Thursday night – with Obama declaring it a “positive lesson” on the nature of race in America and the two men saying they want to look forward, not back.)

My intention is not to make a "taboo" out of beer, but when you are raising children and trying to tell them not to solve their problems with alcohol...then the president of the United States calls a "beer summit"???? That is not a way to teach responsibility either.

I think what you are saying is that having a beer might send the wrong message to impressionable young people. Am I right?

Obama is a Bad parent and bad role model, what a surprise.

That is my point exactly, in fact when this was announced via the news my nephew said "How can you solve a problem if you are drunk and you don't think straight?" Of course I explained to him that this was not the case or why the beer was used, but how do you really explain this to your child when all along you have told them not to use alcohol as a crutch or an ice breaker or....?

The fact is..there were words and actions that should not have happened or been said..and then the logical way to fix the problem is to "drink" over it? You can't expect the younger generation to see alcohol as a potential problem when the president of the United States is using it to "get along" with people.

so hey..I have a problem with someone..lets drink together and see if we can work this out.

It's normal that we give young kids a simple message, and then reality catches up and we have to adjust it. You can't make Obama responsible for the inadequacy of what you had told your kid earlier about alcohol.

It is interesting that you are looking to him for moral leadership, however.

    What about his darned smoking?!?
    1. clioandme
Anyone with control of armed forces as powerful as ours should smoke if that's what it takes to keep his cool. It's not good for his health, but it might be good for international peace.

      lol, just stirring things up
