This year's election, very well could be the most important election in our lifetime.

But how important is it in broader scheme of American history?

Will it compare to the election of 1824 with Andrew Jackson and John Quincy Adams? What about Nixon vs. Kennedy?

Where does this one rank?

We shall have to wait and see....

But I do think it would make the top five most important elections in US history so far.

I think they have all been important.
I know for certain this is a big one for GLBT people, of which almost all of them (which is 5-10% of the American population) are voting for Obama.

The 2000 election was just as important since that's the one where Bush was handed the presidency.

PBS had a commercial this evening where all the reporters said this is the most important election of our lifetime. Even Jim Lehrer said it.

I think this very well could be one of the most influential elections in American history if Obama wins. Obviously he will be the first black president. If McCain wins, it will most certainly be the upset of the century, topping Truman's win over Dewy.
