Political Discussions

I am currently a mommy blogger looking for a change. both my husband and I are republicans, but he is MUCH more into politics than me. I only recently became involved while learning about everything going on (voted republican for president- first time ever voting) them more I watch and read the more I want to join in and be part of the solution somehow- and my only skill is blogging and designing- sooooo-

i want to surprise my hubby with a blog, a co-blog for the two of us, where we can 'debate' on some of the issues we dont agree on, and discuss the ones we do. inviting others to give input (democrats allowed!) LOL

He will be ranting a lot, I will be asking a lot, a little bit of humor, and such- so I want the title to match...

I want a catchy name, something that tells what the blog is about quickly and sounds good. some bad ideas I have had so far (it is late so I am not thinking clearly!)::

his way her way right way (too long!)
Conservative Marriage (kinda boring)
Married to an Elephant (silly but kinda shows he is the bigger of the republicans in the home LOL)

ok, be creative- any ideas? thanks in advance!

Boy are you opening yourself up for a beating on this one. The lib bloggers here on BC can get kinda ornery...

His Way, Her Way, Right Way actually has a nice ring to it.
  2. evelester
yeah, I was just worried about the length of it, but I like how it can open up the blog for other topics than politics sometimes (dishes/trash/duties!) LOL

I expect I will get yelled at at some point, but hoping we can all be respectful, if not oh well- I am a big girl. :-) mostly!

      Excellent!

Because the Republicans are darned sure not interested in "we the people."
    2. Agit8r
darned right, Mark! That's anarchy you're talking about!
    3. anticsrocks
mark, do you have links to support your statement?
    4. clioandme
No need to offer links for an opinion. And I don't want to hijack this thread with a side argument. But if you must know, I am thinking about the GOP congressional leadership's decision that no health care reform at all would be better than a bill they can live with, because for them this is all about hurting Obama. Same thing happened with the stimulus package. And then there are the Kansas senators blocking Obama's appointment of an Army secretary, because they feel their needs in Kansas regarding detainees are more important than our army in two wars. The list goes on.

A few select passages from the 2008 Republican Platform:

      "...removing outdated distinctions
between full time and part time, clockpunching
      and overtime."

"We oppose attempts to hamper agricultural production with heavy-handed mandates, including any expansion of the Clean Water Act to regulate ditches, culverts, converted cropland, and farm and stock ponds."

"we call for mandatory prison time for all assaults involving bodily injury to law enforcement officers."

"By whatever legislative method is most feasible, Old Glory should be given legal protection against desecration."

"we call for a constitutional amendment that fully protects marriage as a union of a man and a woman"
    6. anticsrocks
@eve...Please forgive my helping mark hijack your thread, but his misinformation must be addressed.

@Agit8r...I understand why you posted some of those, but do you really have a problem with prison time for injuring a police officer?

@mark..."I am thinking about the GOP congressional leadership's decision that no health care reform at all would be better than a bill they can live with, because for them this is all about hurting Obama."

You are really hypocritical, mark. When the Republicans oppose a Democratic monstrosity like H.R. 3200 or any Obamacare, heavy handed option it is partisan. Yet I wonder how you feel about Obama's Senatorial voting record on health care reform and health care issues?

      Hat-tip to just a conservative girl ( 912member.blogspot.com/2009/07/senator-obamas-voting-record-on.html )

"NO on Allowing Americans to Deduct Their Health Care Costs. S. Con. Res. 70 (110th Congress, 2nd Session, Roll Call 82).
The Senate rejected an effort to allow for an above-the-line federal income tax deduction for individuals who do not receive health insurance through their employers. The amendment offered by Sen. DeMint (R-SC) failed on March 13, 2008 by a vote of 45-51.
      "

"NO on Allowing Americans the Freedom to Purchase Health Insurance Across State Lines. H.R. 976 (110th Congress, 1st Session, Roll Call 305). The Senate rejected an effort to allow Americans to purchase individual health insurance across state lines. The amendment offered by Sen. DeMint (R-SC) failed on August 2, 2007 by a vote of 37-62."

This would be an excellent way to lower rising health insurance costs, yet Senator Obama voted against it. Hmm....

"NO on Allowing Americans to Use Their OWN HSA Funds to Cover Health Insurance Premiums. H.R. 2 (110th Congress, 1st Session, Roll Call 26). The Senate rejected an effort to allow Americans to use their tax-free Health Savings Account funds to purchase health insurance. The amendment offered by Sen. Ensign (R-NV) failed on January 25, 2007 by a vote of 47-48."

"NO on Preventing the Erosion of Private Health Coverage. S.Amdt. 2537 to S.Amdt. 2530 to H.R. 976 (110th Congress, Session 1, Roll Call 299)The Senate rejected an effort to minimize the erosion of private health coverage. The amendment offered by Sen. Kyl (R-AZ) failed on August 2, 2007 by a vote of 37-62."

"NO on Expanding Access to Small Business Health Plans. On Motion to Invoke Cloture on the Committee Amendment (110th Congress, Session 2, Roll Call 119). The Senate rejected an effort to allow for the expansion of health care access and reduced costs through the creation of small business health plans and through modernization of the health insurance marketplace on May 11, 2006 by a vote of 55-32."

"NO on Preserving Employer-Sponsored Coverage. S.Amdt. 2596 to S.Amdt. 2530 to H.R. 976 (110th Congress, Session 1, Roll Call 301)The Senate rejected an effort that would require individuals who are eligible for SCHIP and employer-sponsored coverage to use the employer-sponsored coverage instead of SCHIP. The amendment offered by Sen. Vitter (R-LA) failed on August 2, 2007 by a vote of 35-64."

"NO on Requiring Health Insurance for Illegal Immigrants. S. 1348 (110th Congress, 1st Session, Roll Call 188). The Senate rejected an effort to require illegal immigrants seeking “Z Visas” to maintain a minimum level of health coverage. The amendment offered by Sen. DeMint (R-SC) failed on June 6, 2007 by a vote of 43-55."

Again, this would have helped drive down costs by preventing illegal immigrants from using our ERs as primary care facilities. But Senator Obama voted no. I wonder why?

So I ask you mark, what do you have to say about Obama's voting record while in the Senate? Specifically, what do you have to say about his votes on the above bills?
    7. Agit8r
It depends on the circumstances. Here in Spokane, these things seem suspicious
    8. anticsrocks
Agit8r, you always crack me up. But I knew mark wouldn't answer my question. Bad habit of his.
    9. Agit8r
there is nothing funny unmitigated police brutality
    10. anticsrocks
No there isn't, but since I live in the Midwest I didn't know what you were speaking to. Sometimes it is hard to tell if you are being funny, serious or just living up to your screen name.
    11. Agit8r
yeah, here in Spokane there is a major problem with the police department being held to the Rule of Law. Whether its cruising at 70mph along surface streets without siren or lights while yacking on the cel-phone (I exagagerate not ) or suffocating the innocent accused ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Otto_Zehm ) the department itself is a renegade entity
    12. anticsrocks
Ouch, that is bad. Kinda like the LAPD a few years back, huh?
    13. Agit8r
I suppose... Mark Fuhrman actually had a local radio show here.

      I have no idea why

Ouch in the pocket. Has Wal Mart gone pinko commie Islamic fundamentalist?
    3. Agit8r
Doubt it. More likely there are people of every ethnicity who shop at Wal Mart... or they will somehow be able to cut costs under universal healthcare.... hmmmmmm
    4. clioandme
After the discrimination case they lost (www.losangelesemploymentlawyerblog.com/2009/03/walmart_settles_racial_discr...), they probably didn't need any more bad PR in that department.
    5. Agit8r
About five years back, I was at the Spokane Valley Walmart and the cashiers were all backed up. Then to my pleasant surprise I spotted a young black man cashiering, and I moved over behind the other TWO people who were in his line. Of course this was before our modern post-racial world
