Political Discussions

After years of Republican policies in California, they are now facing a 21 billion dollar budget deficit and asking for a federal bailout. To be fair, many states are facing budget deficits due to Republican policies at the federal level.

Tim Geithner has so far rejected those requests, but hasn't taken it completely off the table. After all, California has probably the largest economy in the the U.S. and bigger than most countries.

Aren't the majority of political representatives Democrats in California? If Democrats are more fiscally responsible perhaps Congressman Waxman can have his speed reader read their ideas. Tell ya what Sati, you provide all of the Republican policies that have caused their current financial crisis and I will ask you about the social programs and policies the Democrats have enacted. Deal?

How about dropping the constant stream of insults and looking into what kind of a majority California's legislature needs to pass a budget? This isn't a Republican versus Democratic thing. This is about California's unhelpful supermajority rule, which makes it possible for minorities to hamstring government.

Sati, I would not favor any help to California before it takes care of its strange constitutional arrangements.

I believe that may be one of the conditions for a bailout.

Mark's a bright guy, and a college professor in D.C.

That may be true, but as a man he is still fallible. We all are, and yes, even you Sati. I am also wary of those in academics, for there seems to be more indoctrination than education. I do not infer that Mark does, but it does exist.
