Supreme Court rules patients can sue drug makers
The justices, acting in a Vermont case, reject the Bush administration's contention that drug companies should be shielded from lawsuits if their products were approved by the FDA.

Reporting from Washington -- The Supreme Court dealt a defeat to the pharmaceutical industry and the Bush administration Wednesday, ruling that federal approval of a prescription drug does not provide a shield against lawsuits from injured patients.

The 6-3 decision upholds the traditional right of American consumers to sue the manufacturer if they are harmed by a defective product.

    Very exciting news (and thanks for the link). I haven't read the actual case yet, but am very happy to see this in the wake of the opposite determination with regard to medical devices a year or so ago.
