There is not going to be a war with N. Korea because they would be wiped out in a heart beat. They no longer have the backing of China and the Soviet Union no longer exists. They are playing a losing game.
I almost wish Kim Jung Il would do something stupid so that his government can be deposed by the UN and reunified with South Korea. That way, the completely innocent people of North Korea would get some relief from their poverty and political suppression. South Korea has one of the most prosperous economies in Asia as well as one of the most vocal democracies. There are many voices in South Korea who support reunification, but not if Kim Jung Il remains in power. -
Don't see there being a war, and if there were one, the whole "win/lose" question would depend on political objectives. We're not talking about a sporting match here.

North Korea has missile technology and nuclear weapon technology, but the marriage of the two in order to form an ICBM is quite another. What NK would more than likely do, IF they went for a military response would be to lob missiles at Soul, SK. Or target our military inside SK.
By the way, our military is following a ship that left NK. It has suspected weapons technology. NK has said that if we board it on the open sea, which technically be an act of war, that they will respond militarily. A better course of action and one which we will probably take - although with Obama in the Oval Office, one never knows - is to wait for it to come into port and ask the host country to allow us to board it. It is on its way to Singapore right now. Our military knows that this is an avenue for Kim Jong Il to raise money by selling military weaponry to rogue nations or terrorist organizations.
This will be interesting to watch how it plays out.
