I'm glad he wasn't hurt, but I had to smile a little when I heard that an Iraqi journalist threw a pair of shoes at President Bush today. What was your reaction? This is what I write about tonight in my post at peoplepowergranny.blogspot.com. Let me know in my poll, too.

That was awesome. I'm glad people are sick of his sh1t. The Iraqi people DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT want the US to be there anymore. But what are we doing? We're building massive, permanent bases there. Obama's gonna get some shoes thrown at him too at this rate. If we can't hold our president accountable then at least other countries can.

I was thinking that the damn fool is lucky the Secret Service wasn't on the ball and shot his @ss into next ramadan.

Would it matter? 3 Million other Iraqis have died since America started getting involved over there, way before this administration.
    2. csiunatc
Well, the real problem here lies not with the shoehurler. but with the secret service.

If they aren't better than allowing TWO shoes to be thrown.. Considering the threat density against Obama, well be saying MR. President to Joe Biden before long.

Maybe the secret service felt he deserved it

I thought "What's my grandma doing in Iraq?" Because my grandmother used to throw shoes at people all the time with uncanny accuracy. Then I remembered she'd been dead for years. Obviously this is a case of spiritual possession.

He should have waited until Bush wasn't looking.

The man did have some good reflexes, didn't he?

With Cheney around, one has to have the duck and cover maneuver down pat.

BAGHDAD, Dec. 15 -- Iraqis demonstrated in the streets Monday demanding the release of the journalist who hurled two shoes at President Bush during a press conference on Sunday, as Arabs across the Middle East hailed Bush's assailant as a hero who reflected their anger at American policies.

Maybe we should demonstrate here as well!

Poor Bush - he gets protested wherever he goes

Someone make this shoe-hurler the president of Iraq. He's the one man who can unite the country.

I have mixed feelings. Yes, it made me smile when I heard about it and laugh when I actually got to see the footage. I'm going off of what I heard this morning. Apparently throwing shoes at someone is pretty significant in terms of message. It is some kind of sign of disrespect. Why do I have mixed feelings? The reporter, again according to what I heard this morning, came out of Sadr City. That's definitely one place you can almost guarantee America is not so popular. Not sure what the strategy is for keeping Muqtada alive, but he's probably somebody we should have taken out ages ago. I am not all that fond of the protesting going on in Sadr City. Nuff said.

And I was a bit miffed I did not get to see Secret Service jumping in front of the shoe in slow motion. At least Maliki put in some effort trying to swat away the second attempt.

Loving that Stooges parody somebody put up.

They were trained to take a bullet. The nike kind of confused them.

I was almost surprised, kind of. But the news has been so strange lately, this was just one more thing.

I just saw the footage today and I have to say that I got a little chuckle out of it.

In Saudi Arabia, a newspaper reported that a man had offered $10 million to buy just one of what has almost certainly become the world’s most famous pair of black dress shoes.

      Oh dear...

Now, how many people can still argue that we, and Bush are loved and revered for what we've "accomplished" in Iraq? 'Coz I remember a lot of people saying we have been regarded very highly, as saviors of a sort.

But the proof is in the puddin' or the shoe, as the case may be.
    2. csiunatc
So one reporter "Seals the deal" on determening the entire populations feelings on Bush's policy for you.

Thank you, I guess that you know have to admit that Obama is a disaster since there is a minority that doesn't like him being elected then.
    3. Anok
Erm, no not the one reporter, but the droves of people speaking out and in support of him, and what he did.

      Der.

Okay, we all know I don't care for the man's politics, but he is the President of the U.S. I have to say I was quite assaulted and offended, and I felt bad for Bush. He looked so pitiful dodging those shoes with the only attempt at protection coming from the Iraqi president. Having said that, where in the world was the Secret Service?! It seems both our Secret Service and Iraq's equivalent dropped the ball on this one. What if there was a weapon inside or attached to the shoe? From what I can remember, after the journalist got off the second shoe it was a fellow journalist - not the secret service - who was first to try and tackle him.

Just sad. I take no joy in a U.S. president being subjected to that kind of treatment. What xmarks said about the Secret Service not being trained to "take a Nike"...that was funny
    1. BassDem
You mean the Prime Minister. Pres = Jalal Talabani, PM = Nouri al-Maliki
I'm sure President Talabani would have attempted to protect Bush too, although he does not look as fit as Maliki.
    2. RenalFailure
There could have been a bomb in those shoes. Will this mean we can stop taking off our damn shoes at the airport now?
    3. Anok
Renal, i think that means we won't be allowed to wear shoes in the airport.

For fear that we will throw them at the captain.
